I think that what he’s aiming for, but it takes time. He’s said three games running kid he wants more control from midfield. He also wants us pressing like Ipswich pressed us but we’re not there yet. It’s too easy to lump him with a Warneball label, if we’re a few months down the line and we all have neck problems from looking up at the ball in the sky every week I’ll change my tune. I think he wants to take what we have and make us a bit more direct, that in my view is what we’ve been lacking, we’ve been overplaying for sometime

I was upset when we got rid of Liam, he could’ve built something exciting given time but we’ve got to give Warne time. I’d prefer winning and playing good football but that’s subjective as to what good football is, ultimately I just want us to win matches and be competitive. McClaren was best football since Smith but ultimately we were left disappointed, some slated Rowett but we scored loads of goals under him, I only fell out with him when we were utterly dismantled by Fulham in the second leg, and then obviously ditching us for Stoke.
People look on managers like Dyche with snobbery but if Warne could replicate that here then who isn’t going to take that? It would be better than playing the best football in the league and the best at Derby since the 90s and losing 1-0 to Zamora in the 90th minute.
Needs patience and time, we might need 2 seasons down here, and it would be the same if Liam was still in charge.

Was in my old local the goose at gamston this evening, been over that way working on our old house which we now rent, heard a bunch of red dogs debating who is getting relegated instead of them, consensus among them seemed to be it will go to the last game and they’ll survive. It was surprisingly realistic, I was expecting to hear top half by end of January and top 6 by end of the season with a league cup and FA cup double along the way.

I don't think he's the next Nigel Pearson, for the following reason.
Pearson was bought in to be a Sargent Major to an under performing squad, crack the whip and get everything shipshape in double quick time, by a owner who was looking for success at any price.
Paul Warne has been bought in imo, to properly reset the club from top to bottom.
To not only manage the first team, but to set the lead from the top.
Rosenior did a fine job at holding the fort, getting players in the door, and started off the season in reasonable fashion, especially at home. If our away results had matched our away performances he'd still be in post.
They didn't however, and I think DC saw an opportunity to cut all ties to the past, and bring in his own man to mould the clubs medium term future and strategy.
It's the culture Warne creates that DC is looking to tap into, as much as the results. For that reason, I think he'll get a far longer period to prove himself than some others think, we've been hollowed out by administration and subsequent events, on the staffing side as well as the playing side.
I think our new owner sees Warne as the man to launch a rebuild, and sees a manager who's vision aligns with his own in PW.

The remainers were actually proven right the country has failed and Brexit has been a major part of that, and we could face a scenario where the lying clown is put back in power…..anyway that’s for the politics thread I never post in!! ??
I was hugely disappointed Liam went and I think he could’ve built something positive given time. I think we’ve played better in away games under Liam and created more chances but didn’t get the wins we’ve deserved, I think Warne has had the luck Liam didnt have. That said I’m fully behind Warne and he needs time to build his team, as long as we win games and score goals I don’t care how we play, it’s about choosing the right pathway to sustained success and it’s too early to judge Warne either way on that.

I think people are too quick to stick labels on things, Rosieball, Warneball , Rowettball, we played our best football under Mac, we played effective football under Rowett which I enjoyed as we scored lots of goals, it fell down as we didn’t have enough to lay a glove on the good teams ie. Fulham. Last night you could see were still in transition and while Ipswich were better we weren’t that far away. Various people subscribing to the Warneball narrative have made a judgement bird will be on his way as he doesn’t fit the system, yet Warne has already been talking about what a player he has in Bird and even says he wants his son to emulate him as a man!!

I think (I hope) he will get it right, I think we will be a cross between a footballing and pragmatic team, a better footballing version of Rotherham that will be more direct than we have been previously and more competitive in both boxes. Is that not what we need to be successful not just in League 1 but also the championship.
If in a few years we get bored in the premier league battling relegation but surviving each season and playing direct football - I’d bite your arm off that given weve been there once in the past 20 years.

Goals change games. We gifted Ipswich a goal when we were starting to look likely. Changed the game completely.
We didn’t play well but we were well in the game and contained them while looking threatening in attack, but final ball was seriously lacking tonight.

We are clearly transitioning between two styles, either we are too eager to go front to back and careless in possession, or too slow playing it about at the back and getting caught, we are not the finished article and this is not how Warne wants us playing.

Cashin is the best defender in League one. I said preseason he will be in League one team of the year and think I’ll be right on that one. Smith was excellent. Bird couldn’t get in the game. Sibley was good first half but his performance deteriorated to the point where he was dire. Barky struggled and NML not as effective today. I think NML  looks good at RWB on the whole I think Barky is struggling with it.

Work in progress. There is no need for wrist slashing tonight. Performance level was similar to accy but Ipswich are better. People need to realise we are not one of the two best teams in this division and playoffs is our best hope this season, there is also a strong likelihood this could be a two year job.

Ipswich are looking the team to beat this year but you have a settled squad and way of playing that’s been built over nearly a full calendar year now and he was backed in the transfer window to sign the players he wanted. You have the right squad balance and depth, it’s easy to see why you were preseason favourites.
Derby on the other hand only had 5 players in June, 1 week less preseason than everyone else. We had to cobble a team together under transfer restrictions and now the new owner has assessed things we’ve changed manager and having to adapt to his style. A lot has been made of we’ve signed Hourihane and Collins and we have one of the leagues strongest squads, we are a mix of 30+ or 21 and unders, the strike force last night had not played professional football before this season and it showed. We have no depth, we actually don’t have a genuine right back at the club. But it is what it is, we nearly didn’t have a club a few months ago and we now have to work to a business plan which means we cannot spend transfer fees, which is why only Barkhuizen and Wildsmith are the only players in the 23-28 age bracket in our squad.
That being said while neither team was at their best last night there wasn’t a lot between the teams which gives me hope. First half of the season was always about staying in touch, we hope and expect to come on strong in the second half of the season, i think looking at this league we have a very good chance of playoffs, we will likely have too much ground to make up for autos. Playoffs would be reasonable for us considering where we were in preseason. Promotion would be great this season, but realistically it might take 2 years, as long as it doesn’t take 3 like you boys ?

No he isn’t, he’s won 2 of his first 4 league games for a start!! It’s not the best but it’s not bad. We could easily win the next 4 and some will be calling him a messiah!!
This has to be a long term appointment now and it will be unless Derby tumble down the league towards the bottom - not going to happen. I think the time to judge him is first half of next season - whatever division we are in. If we are in a championship relegation scrap playing dire football next season I would still be calling for him to go, but he shouldn’t be sacked if he can’t get promotion this season.
For me it’s about the trajectory of where we’re going as a club and the football we play, his remit for the next 4 years as a minimum is to get us competing at the top end of the championship again. If he doesn’t achieve that and the football isn’t good then I’m sure a change will be made. But right now it’s way way too early to judge and I’ve seen both positives and negatives in his first month in charge.
