I'm sorry but knowing someone's name is one of the first things you learn about someone. At the very least it shows how much interest a person has in someone. There are only 65 players in the first team, U21 and U18 squads. If I can recite them all, then the first team manager who works with them on a regualr basis, sees them in training and watches them in matches should also know their names too. These are people Warne should be hoping are ready for his first team squad in the near future so should be getting to know them already.
As others have said in another thread. It's only a recent occurance where the first team staff have been seen to take a more active interest in the U18s and U21s.

Whilst I was surprised we release those players due to a lack of depth in the U21 squad, it made sense as they were at an age where they needed regular football which they weren't going to get here, and despite a lot of early promise injuries perhaps limited that potential.
JBrown was sold in Jan 2022 whilst ABrown chose to go abroad at the end of the previous season (summer 2021).
I don't get the impression that anyone is suggesting the first team is filled with untried academy prospects. However, a lot of people are frustrated that they aren't used more. This was especially apparent in the striking department, when we had a lack of fit forwards who were performing well at the start of the season, with DBrown impressing in pre-season. This was then followed up after Weston had just scored and assisted on his debut, but then not used again despite only having 1 fit forward who is a yellow away from a 1 match ban. On other occasions its when we're 2 or 3 goals up with subs to spare, then we opt to bring experienced players like Bradley on rather than giving experience to youth.

Well there's more chance of him making the first team for Chelsea and Man U, than there is here so good luck to the lad.

1Wildsmith - 7 - Great save in the first half. Quiet game aside from that.
24Nyambe - 7 - Solid as usual, never stops running. Looks the fittest player in the squad by a mile.
    35Nelson - 7 - Hardly put a foot wrong.
    6Cashin - 7 - Same as Nelson.
17Sibley - 7 - Had a good game, unlucky to not score. Somehow was our best attacking player in the first half while play left back.
4Hourihane - 5 - Anonymous. Part of a midfield that was thoroughly beaten once again.
7Barkhuizen - 5 - Linked up well with Nyambe but was overall poor. Seemed scared to take his man on.
2Wilson - 6 - Did alright when he came on.
12Smith - 4 - Had a dreadful game. Misplaced passes, dispossessed easily. Worst player on the pitch.
22Fornah - 7 - Looked great when he came on. Big part in the 2nd goal.
8Bird - 6 - Quiet game. Only gets a 6 because he was marginally better than Hourihane.
    5Bradley - 5 - Beaten for the goal.
11Méndez-Laing - 8 - Quiet first half but a brilliant 2nd half. Looked a threat everytime he had the ball. Carried us on his back.
9Collins - 5 - Invisible for most of the game but had zero service. His only notable contribution was ruining a counter in the first half by blasting a cross 30 yards over everyones heads.
10Waghorn - 6 - Similar to Bradley in that he had little time but he had a few moments where he looked calm and composed which we badly needed.
    ATG.

For me the performance didn't really matter that much yesterday, it was all about getting the win for B4 and getting into the top six, so job done in that respect. Something I would like to say though is when Bradley was about to come on, there was an audible groan from those around me. I get that he hasn't had the best of starts, but I just wish we could be a bit more supportive, rather then expecting the worst from him every time. A confidence boost will surely help him improve his game, and isn't that what we all want really?

He was also the player who forced Bristol backwards immediately before Fornah won it back for our winner. He was our 4th best player according to Whoscored with 7.03, behind Cashin, Mendez-Laing, and Fornah. It surprised me he rating was so high, but looking at the stats... he had the joint most shots on target, joint most key passes, most tackles, most interceptions, 3rd best pass accuracy, and the most fouled player.

First half was awful and I actually thought we deserved to be losing. Second half while we didn’t play great was a massive improvement, we should’ve put the game to bed before they equalised but great character to win it - brilliant cameo from Fornah.

Put ourselves in a decent position with some very winnable games coming up, starting Tuesday against vale, we need an away performance!!

Ambition is the word of the day.

Sitting outside the play offs isn’t bad at all in isolation. We have no devine right to get automatic promotion and there’s murmurs of Barnsley fans not happy with Collins whose record is the same as ours.

Personally I’ve seen enough to not like Warne as a manager. Tactically average at best. Recruitment poor on his watch. Plus the football is a mix bag.
I was all for wanting him gone before our upturn in fortunes. In fact I still want him gone but it would be an odd decision to do it now. It should’ve been done after Stevenage.

Think we’re stuck with him until the end of the season. If we get promoted great. If not I hope he either walks or gets the sack and I doubt many fans would disagree.

Agree with all this. But I think there is a difference between being “content” and wanting Warne sacked (give up and roll the manager dice again hoping for a 6 instead of a 2).

I am not content (expect better) but accept being patient for now.

I would agree with @Millenniumram that the quality of this division is weaker than in recent years & that we should therefore be a lot closer to the top 2 than we currently are.
Firstly, of the 3 relegated teams from the Championship two of them have had points deductions & sit bottom half as things stand. Ordinarily recently relegated sides would be top 6 contenders - for example us, Barnsley & Peterborough last year. That removes 2 threats.
Secondly, two well resourced teams in Sheffield Wednesday & Ipswich have left the division so removing two further threats - we are now competing with clubs with far lower revenue than ourselves based purely on crowd numbers - at this level in the absence of meaningful TV money, that is the key differential. Hence I would struggle to believe Oxford or Portsmouth have a larger wage bill than Derby on average crowds of 18k and 9k respectively & with far inferior corporate entertainment facilities.
To illustrate the point about the general quality of the division, Stevenage were promoted from League Two in May but currently sit in 4th place - 5 points ahead of Derby & only 3 points off top two. Their average crowds are below 5k - again, I don't think anyone could seriously argue their budget is comparable to ours or that they would have been anywhere near 4th at this point last season.
It surprises me how many of our fans seem content with a mere playoff push given the opportunity this season presents & how long Warne has had in post to shape his team & tactics. You mention we lost our best player in the summer but the overall squad is now much better balanced, hence I don't accept 7th on goal difference is anything other than a sub-par performance as things stand.

    For all the constant disagreements about Warne, I'd say there's a decent chance  that ;
Top 2 is great.  He will get the beginning of another season to prove he can flourish in the Championship
Top 6 and up via the play offs.  Same as above but with even less time to prove history isn't going to repeat itself.
Top 6 and failure to go up. Depending how unlucky and plucky we are, he may possibly get another shot but the knives will be out pretty much all the time and possibly be toxic.
Outside the play offs and he will go.
Outside the play offs early on - he will be replaced before the season ends.

I semi expected a half-arsed performance tonight based on the fact that we've really struggled against the poorer sides this season. What I didn't expect is to see absolutely no youth whatsoever in the starting line-up.
On Saturday the game was over after around 65 minutes. Barnsley had given up, we were in complete control and carving them open at every opportunity. Perfect opportunity to give Weston or Robinson some minutes who would be on a high after the midweek game. We see neither. Okay, perhaps he's saving them for the FA cup game midweek I naively think to myself. We see neither again and instead only see Fapetu for 7 minutes in a desperate, panicked double substitution with Bradley as a last roll of the dice.
No Brown who is on fire in the academy, no Weston who scored for the senior team last week, no Robinson who has Prem clubs sniffing after him, instead we go for a 6'5 CB who we can rifle in diagonal crosses too. It's such a negative, backwards decision that genuinely makes me fear for the academy under Warne. Why would you choose to come here as a youngster when the manager won't even give a couple a chance in a game against league two opposition?
Losing tonight with half a team of kids would have meant nothing tonight. We would have dusted ourselves off and said oh well our focus is on the league. Instead our first team gets comprehensively beaten, the knives are out for Warne again, the fans are annoyed and our youngsters miss out on vital experience. A masterclass in mismanagement.
