DavesaRam reacted to Justa in Derby vs Ipswich (H) Match Thread
Just got back from the game - that was the result I expected before the game started.
After 20 mins I feared it would be a lot worse than that. The team tried but we lost to a better team simple as!
They have had the same manager for 18 months and strengthened in several transfer windows - during which they have spent a considerable amount of money.
No disgrace for us at all today, it’s disappointing but hardly surprising!

4th loss in 5 games for a Derby County side playing in the third tier of English football.
Arguably one of the most embarrassing months in this club’s history. I’m sure it’s the first time in our history we’ve lost three times in a row at this level.
Team needs to f****** sort their s*** out and pronto. I’m not going into individuals but I wouldn’t be sad to see the back of anyone in this side. They’ve got it all on to avoid being recorded as the worst Derby County side in history at this rate.

Well said! For the first 15 - 20 minutes there was only one team on the pitch. But why you have to resort to the dark arts baffles me. You are one of, if not the best team in the division. Your number 33 (Woodhead?) in that 1st 20 minutes didn't make a challenge for the ball without it being a foul. Your number 10 dived for a penalty, which the ref rightly gave the free kick to us, but it was a card-able offence, but no card given. And no, the ref wasn't inconsistent with his cards. All he was capable of doing was booking your players for time wasting, but then doing nothing about the continued time wasting. Clarke should also have one or two more yellow cards for persistent fouling, and for throwing the ball away right in front of the ref. Yet he couldn't wait to give free-kicks for perfectly good tackles, and then wave a card at Derby players. He was exceptionally consistent, as well as not giving free kicks or cards for similar offences by Ipswich players.
The "Cashin goal" was actually scored by McGoldrick, and disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper. By whom, no-one actually knows because there was no-one near him. The only foul was Collins being held in a headlock in the middle of the area. But no penalty given, of course. As happened when knight was upended going into the area in the first half. There's a ton of other stuff the ref goofed up with, but there is neither the time nor space to bother with it. Incidentally the lino apologised for that decision. But its a bit rich when we keep getting done over by poor decisions match after match, often with subsequent apologies. But you don't get in the play-offs with apologies. We would rather have the 6 - 10 points these decisions have cost us.
Because of how you started and finished the match, maybe you were worth the points, and I would like to wish you well, but am not happy doing so for a team that relies so heavily on the dark arts, especially when you are such a good footballing side.

If Warne picked Sibley as an attacking midfielder our goal threat would be consistently transformed. For once it's not rocket science.

Ipswich were deserved winners.
They have such a good balance for this league - pace, power, physicality, height, tenacity, a command of the dark arts, but also the capability of playing some good, fast, attacking football.
They are what Rotherham under Warne might have been if he’d had a bigger budget.
I can understand the disappointment. It’s an awful run we’re on. But I don’t think there’s much point digging into Warne or the team.
We are evidently still a work in progress.

Why is it embarrassing, @one_chop? The statistics were always against us and I thought we would lose 1 - 3. Ipswich have not had the same embargoes against them and I thought we did pretty well today. Our performance was far from embarrassing.

And when the two players were down for two or three minutes to time waste, why weren't they made to leave the field after "treatment"? Surely that's a plain "error of law" on the part of the referee?

Oh come on. He spent a large proportion of his time on the bench or out on the wing. Spot a recurring theme, with the only thing missing being played at left back.
He also got neck ache when he was in midfield from looking up watching the ball wizzing past 3 miles in the air.
His best position was in “the hole” behind the strikers, but was only played there once - against John Gregory’s Aston Villa. He ran the match and we destroyed them. I can’t actually remember the next match, but it is highly likely that he was back on the bench for that one. 🙄
He wasn’t a poor signing, he was a wasted one.

But the reason we were slaughtered is because Billy sabotaged our season before it even started. He is famously quoted as saying at Wembley "It should have been Preston's ribbons being tied on the trophy". He then went on holiday for who knows how many weeks, so when he finally set about bringing in Premiership quality players, they'd all been signed up, and we had to make do with what was left (ie the ones nobody else wanted). In addition he tried to take on the Premiership teams with his hoof-ball tactics, which only worked the once when Wimbledon surprised everybody with those tactics), and most certainly don't work when all you've got are Championship quality players. And in the middle of all that he started engineering his dismissal with regular statements to the media about needing the club to back him, when there was actually very little more they could do. He was duly sacked, leaving Paul Porno to take over the reigns of the hamstrung horse.
