I don’t know what you do for a living but if the company you work for gave you a fixed term contract then chose not to assign you any tasks, you would probably not go elsewhere for (let’s say) half the money where you might or might not get assigned tasks.
If he ever refused to play for Derby that’s a different matter but don’t think there’s evidence of that? In Rowett’s season he was selected in an emergency, came in and did well.

Derby gave him an X year contract on £Xk per week. That they chose not to pick him to play football in that time is up to them

Their squad by the end of the season was pretty good but that included adding Zaroury, Carvalho and Giles all on loan in January when you probably have to wait til at least March for them to settle. I think only Giles was signed with any intention of making it permanent too.
This isn’t a comment on whether we should’ve kept him on or not, clearly it’s worked out, but think he can count himself very unfortunate with both his jobs so far

Not his fault we gave him a fat contract then didn’t want to use him

The PL or the commissions or whoever is deciding these things have got themselves into such an absurd position where it is controversial for a team not to get points back from an appeal.

Wasn’t the rumour at the time that Pearson sussed out who the problems were in the dressing room, and in a (very rare) moment of self awareness this caused Keogh to go running to Morris who promptly sacked Pearson thus proving his point?
His ten games or whatever it was were really, really bad, but I do wonder whether things would’ve got as bad as they subsequently did, if Pearson had just been allowed to get on with it. But never mind.

You know it’s been a rough season for Notts Forest when your defence for your owner being an “alleged” drug trafficker and witness tamperer is to mention Derby selling their stadium to themselves.

Oh forgive me I forgot.
Stadium inflating and selling to yourself, player value fabricating, HMRC and local business not paying--DCFC were the arbiters of morality 🤣
Give over will you..

One thing about Clough is you knew he’d get us right up for games like that Newcastle one. See also the voodoo we had over Forest and Leeds at the time.
Remember a 2-1 win away at Leeds when Bucko scored a last minute winner. Think we had a penalty which Sammon took for some reason and he even managed to mishit that, but Coutts scored the rebound.
Think there was another away win there which I’m certain was in the league but for some reason was live on BBC, in the Bueno season, but before he’d arrived. Possibly the first game of the season.

Sheff United and Fulham at home in Rooney’s season
Cant remember exactly and might be making it all up but I think Reading had won earlier in the day when we beat Fulham. I think we’d have gone on to stay up if they hadn’t. Either way was a great performance and result

It’s a funny one isn’t it. If we were to go down then there’s probably no one you’d rather have managing in 12 months time, which would make it difficult to assess what you do with him if we were to be in trouble. I’m not sure if a new contract complicates or simplifies that.
I think and hope we can be safe ish this season, never looking in huge trouble but consolidating, with steps taken to add a bit more long term value to the squad. If we do that, Warne will have earned another contract when he has a year left. But I don’t think it would be necessary now. I thought at the time, and still think really, the 4 years was excessive, although on the other hand maybe if it’s shorter Warne goes earlier in the season.
