I’m reading comments on here about how we should spend £2 million on players.
Regardless of whether we sell Cashin, given that we clearly have a financially prudent owner and are only in the second year out of administration, with all of the financial limitations that this comes with, anybody thinking we’re going to drop a couple of million on a player has lost touch with reality.
If this applies to you, please wash your face in the sink, take a hard look in the mirror and come to terms with the waters that we are swimming in this year.

Can’t build a team round a player who can walk away for free next summer. I think a few fans need a reality check that at the minute we are miles away from being a team who can retain its best players. We’re a division 3 team and there’s 44 clubs in leagues above us who can tempt our players away with the promise of a higher level of football and more money. 

I agree, but for a short while I think we are going to have to be beggars. In two or three years hopefully we might reach chooser status again.

I like Cashin,despite his shortcomings,and he's one of our Academy successes but anyone who thinks his value will ever be in excess of £10m needs a bit of a reality check.It's the same with Knight and Bird.We build them up,over inflate their potential sale price then moan when we sell them to someone we consider not good enough.

A very good player at this level when fit. However, as with a number of our signings this summer, he has struggled a lot with injuries over the past 2 years. The type of player you'd want to pick up from the bargain bin in the hope they turn their luck with injuries around. Would add depth to a current weak spot in our team, with only Mendez-Laing, Barkhuizen and Sibley as real options on the wings. Hopefully it's a sign of sticking with 4 at the back (whether 442, 4231 or 433), rather than signing him to fill in at CF.

I honestly feel some people need to give their head a good wobble. I really think some people think recruiting new players is as easy as going down to Tesco and buying a loaf of bread. Maybe we should wait till September 1 before judging our summer recruitment too harshly. And even giving players a decent chance to show how good/bad they are before we call them a reincarnation of Bobby Malcolm/King Kevin Hector.

You could take it as a reassuring sign that there is some future planning going on, that’s one of the growing concerns amongst the fan base isn’t it? We want to see both immediate results and long term planning. Mark Thomas focusing on recruiting for the academy and planning recruitment for subsequent summers ties into the idea that Clowes has a strategy in place to strengthen the club further with some forward planning and sustainability, it will however require an element of patience.

There some really interesting comments about the process, the committee element to it, the plans to recruit immediately, and that Thomas is planning for the future, and they’re looking to invest in the academy. Lots of commentary on the things people want to see from the club, whether it becomes reality is a different conversation but the “right” noises are there.

Now here's where things get more tricky and we have more scenarios to throw out there.
The player chose X club instead either because
1. Better money
2. Longer deal
3. Location
4. Club Ambitions
5. Facilities 
6. Mates
7. Better connection to the manager
8. Social media interactions
9. Heard we like to sing about willy size
Think that just about covers all possibilities, so pick which one fits the narrative you choose to believe as chances are we will never know the truth. Even managers could bend the truth at times to fit their own narrative that they want out there. Be it to save face or push the owner for more money.
The key for sanity here is don't put too many emotions into a transfer rumour, this allows you to spend more time with loved ones and better quality of sleep.

That’s true. But he did sign him, and he’s picking him, and he’s scoring for Derby. There’ll be plenty of other sticks to beat Warne with, ask around and people will share some with you, the circumstances of Waggy joining don’t need to be one.

He'll be a better player than Cashin, don't see all the criticism about pace he might not have the pace for a right back but he's going to make a solid CB or even CDM.

If the 2 are Fornah & Coburn I would be very happy with them. A couple more as well & the squad would look top 2 then imo
