I still don't understand how MM can just walk away and leave the club, its fans, staff and players in such a mess.
To continue to punish the club while the cause of the problems walks away is just scandalous.

I do. He milked the adulation when things looked positive, couldn’t keep his trap shut, appearing on TalkSport whenever he liked, fans forums, giving it the big ‘un, yet not peep out of him when it all turned awry then he had the temerity to say if you say nasty things about me (at Pride Park) I’ll pull the plug.
Nobody said nasty things about him at the ground and guess what ? He pulled the chuffin’ plug anyway. I’ve no time for him.

Gibson should be taking MM to court for that money. Not a football club. He's attacking the fans.
As far as I am concerned neither Derby County or Middlesbrough should be brought into the conversation in public. Its between two businessmen.

Exactly this. Imagine if Ashley had gambled and then Covid hit and the state of Newcastle was the same as Derby? Instead they've been brought and are now the richest club in the world. We're skint.
I think the fact that Ashley has left them in such a good position is massively overlooked by the Geordies. He'll get no credit for what they're going to go on and do.

A lot of fans take the attitude well you've got loads of money so spend it when it comes to ownership.
People who have made a fortune do so by analysing every business decision and inherent risks before going ahead.
Mel seemed to abandon such principles when he took over as a fan and bowed to pressure from fellow fans.
    Ashley wouldn't be like that.
If we are mid-table and solvent that'll do for him.

Good post.  I thought the academy comment interesting.  I have a couple of Geordie mates and they both are of the opinion that Ashley has done little to invest in, or develop their academy over the years.  However if you read a number of press articles he seems to have invested some £50m in their academy, helping to keep them in profit and so mean the new owners apparently have some £200m to spend on players without breaching FFP.  Whether he actually invested £50m in the academy, or it's just a figure on paper for FFP purposes is another question I guess; maybe it's paper money only if the general feeling seems to be both the academy and ground are pretty run down and show evidence of little investment.
That would worry me for Derby, where our academy and ground represents some of the best in the country.  But that said, Ashley does seem to be a known quantity, not least making his businesses profitable which, let's face it, is what we need short to medium term. Love him, or hate him, if he provided financial stability for us then maybe we settle for that until we're back in the black, then we look to kick on from there, i.e. he'll sell for a profit to someone willing to take on and invest in an already profitable football club.
I'm sure we'll find out sooner rather than later....albeit not 48hrs.

Ashley said himself that he can't compete financially with some of the investors in the Premier League now. The landscape has changed considerably in the last 14 years. The problem with Newcastle supporters is their expectations outweighed Ashley's wealth. But look at them now. Without Ashley they wouldn't be in that position, they might not have been in the Premier League to be attractive enough to buy.
The man isn't stupid. But he wouldn't be buying a club with high expectations in Derby. You couldn't get further from it.
Will he run the club as a business? yes. Would we agree with every decision he makes (for the business)? no. Would he leave Derby in the same mess Mel has? no. Would he sell the club at a profit? you bet he would.
If the latter is the case, and he sells us in the Prem, I'm damn sure we'd be wrong to judge him on what Newcastle fans wanted for so long. Especially now they've got it.

I can't believe how wonderful it is to watch Ravel just pass the ball. Gives another dimension to the team, put in one particularly fab tackle yesterday and doesn't lack for effort. Worth the ticket price alone. Although his deadball needs some work! ? #COYR

Sounds ridiculous, but Rooney's lack of experience is probably what's keeping him at the club. An experienced manager wouldn't suffer the same - and wouldn't have attracted Jagielka/Morrison to the club.
I don't think Rooney is brilliant or great but got to admire him for what he is doing for the club during an awful period.
And if/when it passes we could actually have a very good manager. Sink or swim scenario.

We saw the benefit of matching how other teams play last night. I think the players are not up to it and if we cannot get better ones in this year and get Bielik fit we'll go down with whoever is in charge.

I do always think it's funny our poor results were put down Cocu's methods leaving the players confused, the methods too difficult for them to grasp, too complicated, boring etc
These very same players (baring a couple of swap-outs) seemed perfectly able to grasp the methods from January to July when we won ten and drew 4 of 17 games (we night even have scored in every one of those games, I can't remember exactly), with the inclusion of Martin & a fitter Rooney.
I also find the talk of Cocu being unwilling to listen and being too stubborn funny when it was him doing the complete opposite of that which lead directly to his downfall.
The change in approach from the Norwich game... yes I know we won it, but it was 1 game... based on listening to the players caused more problems then it solved, really Cocu should have stuck to his guns - changing it up only added to the confusion and he kind of undermined himself at a time others were perfectly happy to do it for him.
Rooney is praised for simplifying things, but that had already started - by the end of the season we were so dumbed down that, well, I don't even need to say anything further, the results speak for themselves.

Why do you see Rooney as any better than Cocu ...I accept you didn't like Cocu that is obvious...you were very quiet when we played well and always found fault yet Rooney with a worse record and seemingly devoid of any direction/progress can do no wrong ?? Why ? 1 win in 15 games was woeful against some pretty poor teams as well

You mean, overweight, unfit and uninterested Rooney that played woefully last season? Rooney that clearly wanted the manager's job so got his agent to help churn out articles in the Daily Fail etc saying he was going to be the next manager? Who would that help other than Rooney?
