I still think he’s downplaying expectations, a couple of sensible signings to strengthen the midfield and attack, ideally keep hold of Cashin (probably on loan) and Bird until the summer where we’ll be sure of our promotion and can sign Bird to a new deal whilst wishing Cash well on his premier league adventure

What is it that you see as so compelled to keep hold of Bird ?

Not the best tackler and doesn't score many ...two attributes that would be nice surely in a CM

What Sibley did was exactly what Bird and Fornah don't.  Give a defence something to be concerned with, by running at them 40 yards from goal rather than collecting sideways on and moving slowly.  it's shifting them from a a comfortable position in their own third and making space.  Sometimes he's better at it than at other times but I can't see any benefit in him sitting on his arse watching Fornah looking like Bambi on ice for an hour. He's a better player.

I thought both Fornah and Bird looked weak tonight and some awful passes and decision making ….supposed to tackle in midfield I thought lol wouldn’t be that concerned if we sold Bird in Jan as I think we need more in a CM might give us some money to spend

You always bite, despite your comments in the Tiresome Oneupmanship thread.  🤣

How's it a daft comparison?  They play in a similar position.  What does age have to do with it?  Sibley is criticised for his work out of possession.  Do you think Barkhuizen is any better?  The guy never wins a header, he never wins a 50-50, he's about as lightweight and ineffective as it's possible to be.  But I don't see anyone criticising him.

I don't see how Lawrence is a daft comparison either.  He was picked week after week for the one good game he had in a dozen (possibly being generous) because on those occasions he might score you the goal that won the match.  Sibley can score the goal that might win us the match too but doesn't get anywhere near the amount of game time.  If he has a quiet game or even sometimes just 45 minutes he's off.

What I would say in Lawrence's defence his work and closing down off the ball definitely improved and was much better before he departed, I still wouldn't have made him captain though that was an odd one for me

    I'd like to see:

                                      Wildsmith

             Nyambe     Nelson    Cashin    Forsyth

                                         Fornah

                               Bird             Hourihane

                NML                                    Barkhuizen
                                         TJJ

It gives John-Jules a start to see more of what he's about, Barks has earned a start, more balanced midfield 3. Also allows us to bring Collins, Wilson, Ward etc. off the bench if needed for a change of tactic.

I actually think this is our strongest line up full stop..... but would like all 3 mids to interchange as I still think Hourihane and Fornah are a threat if used more advanced

We might find out if JJ is more than a bit part player if he’s given more than bit parts to play. I am presuming that Paul Warne is easing JJ back up to full fitness gently, and not simply being Paul Warne because the lad is only young.

Yes but exactly how long do we have to wait before he's match ready , we need players who can play 90 mins or at least be available to play 90 mins, he's a young player with a record of injuries so we have to be clever here and make a judgment on whether he's a viable option or not  or offload him and spend our budget on another player as being on the injury list will not help us for our final push

  6. Tricky one this...but 3 points is a must if we have aspirations of overtaking pompey

Just hope we see some good.... ish football

I'd give TJJ a start here to see if he's capable of being more than a bit part player ...if he's not then we can offload in Jan and get some players in who will play more

It’s so frustrating though isn’t it. He is such a committed player with the ball. He’s got something but as you say, maybe it’s coaching that could bring it out. That said he has had various influences over time. When he scored that hat trick I thought we’d unearthed a gem. There have been other flashes of real skill but they are too infrequent given the game time he has had. Every time he’s in the team I am hoping that “todays the day” but it never seems to happen. He still a useful player but in reality I don’t think other teams say “oh no Sibley’s playing, watch out for him”

I’ve literally watched Sibley seemingly ( although probably isn’t ) half heartedly trying to stop sides playing out of difficult situations and he is easy to play around …he comes to life more when he has the ball but without it he doesn’t do enough ….it is a shame yes but I don’t see him improving any more than he is now so if we get an offer I’d take it

I’m begging to see Fornah and Bird as a 2 I think they’d work so well together

Is Nyambe back ? If so that’s good news we’ve missed him he’s probably the best RB in L1

I didn’t ask about Sibley though did I ? .. you moan constantly about the opportunities Sibley has been denied, how it’s unfair, how he doesn’t get a run in the team or how he’s played out of position .. blah blah blah. Funny thing is he’s had a lot of minutes on the pitch though hasn’t he ? And yes there have been a few good performances but you don’t have the grace to admit he isn’t setting the world on fire and at the same time pour scorn on another lad who’s barely had a chance. Double standards and bang offside.

Yet apply the same standards to another player who has had little opportunity anywhere and your response is meh, he runs around a lot. Soz Roy, you’re unjust and wrong

If you watch Sibley he’s not great off of the ball ….there are two sides with and without the ball he doesn’t do nearly enough without the ball

no stats can confirm this but if you watch his awareness is not great he chips in with the odd goal which is much needed as our midfield don’t score enough …looking at a Leicester and how there manager has got his midfield players scoring more goals is because of good coaching it’s no coincidence players like Dewsbury Hall have started scoring ….but apart from scoring he closes channels and works hard when he hasn’t got the ball …Sibley doesn’t contribute enough without the ball …when he played as a full back I thought it would help his awareness when out of possession but it hasn’t

if he’s not scoring or assisting he contributes very little I’d let him go and see if we can get a box to box CM in who can score and still do a good job out of possession

In what sense? Maybe a couple of things evident. But one of the most consistent complaints about Warne is his inability/unwillingness to try and change things during the game, he’s made the subs fairly early, he’s changed the formation, he’s doing something to try and win the game isn’t he?

Yes you’re right …it is my problem because as soon as we start struggling to beat crap teams like Wycombe I start seeing us getting more and more desperate rather than having the nous and intelligence to outplay crap hoof merchants like WW

i will openly admit even if we won 7/8/9 or 10 in a row I don’t see PW as the answer long term …I want to see a team that will pass and move and develop integrating youngsters inti the side  a side that will hit the ground running in the championship like Ipswich have …so apologies but when I see us struggling to break down a very average crap team like WW as I’m totally guilty of seeing PW for what he is …

saying all that he did complain about all of the things that were wrong after the game and was spot on with his analysis …but that’s not to say we won’t see more disappointing performances because that seems to have become just how it is I’m afraid

Hourihane has a worse mins per booking ratio than Sibley. It doesn't matter who plays more or less. This is also despite Sibley making 1.8 successful tackles per 90 vs Hourihane's 1.5

So you think Hourihane is more of a risk than Sibley ? Sibley makes silly petulant challenges and always has regardless of your stats
