I like to have a look on the oppositions forum just to put a bit of a different perspective on the post match analysis.
Anyway, here’s an observation on this afternoons action from Moonie one of the Carlisle forum moderators.
On a different note, I never realised Derby fans were such a bag of inbred *****

Good grief. Collins with the easiest pass into the box gives it to the defender. its embarrassing. I am considering moving house so I don’t have to admit being from Derby.

We’re going up North with a squad of
Wildsmith, Vickers, Wilson, Nyambe, Nelson, Cashin, Forsyth, Bradley, Elder, Smith, Embleton, Fornah, Sibley, Barkhuizen, Mendez - Laing, Waghorn, Washington & Collins
to take on a team that’s won one match and would be in the relegation places if it wasn’t for points reductions and having played a game more.
For me, with that squad a point is a minimum return.
With Bird, John -Jules, Ward, Thompson &  Hourihane back within the next few weeks to strengthen the squad I’m fully expecting making the play offs as a minimum and anything less than that as failure.
Cambridge at home next, then six winnable matches in October.
………………..the charge up this abject league should begin tomorrow.

I think every team should go out onto the pitch with a distinct plan but the players should always be adaptable.
A good team instinctively knows how to support team mates in attack and defence. Someone told to anchor the midfield should not feel unable to run into an obvious gap, and a team mate should drop back to accommodate.
I think Clough’s comments were meant to imply that football is a pretty simple game and that players aren’t robots or simpletons who need to be told what to do in every situation.
Good teamwork is every bit as important as tactics.

I don’t think even Warne knows our best X1 yet. However what we do have now is plenty of options and permutations to try. Clearly last season burnout was an issue and we seemed to concede late in games which told in the end; that detracted from the esprit de corps that a small squad brings. Whilst I haven’t been impressed with the quality of our recruitment, the fact we have Barks and Sibley back is a major boost. When Bird 🦅 gets back we will start to be very competitive I think. So, if we stay close to the top 10, I can foresee us getting into top gear as the final quarter of the season gets going. Patience and staying with the squad in terms of support will be a very key factor. We need to go up this season playing a brand of football that will enable us to continue momentum in the Championship and that is an area where for me Warne has an Achilles heel. Kick and rush will not be a style to hang the Derby County hat on.

A quote often taken out of context. Any tactic will work, as long as you have the right players for that system.
Playing a long ball game up to Walcott and Defoe would be useless, so too would a gegenpress when you have a midfield 3 of Eustace, Huddlestone and 2021 Rooney.

Tuesday showed what we’ve been missing so far, movement and pace in midfield to allow us to play the football Warne has talked about.  Obviously helped by Sibley and Barkhuizen returning, Embleton coming in and Fornah looked up to speed.
I wouldn’t be averse to 3/5 at the back as we now have the personnel to be flexible and more fluid.  Smith, Fornah plus either Embleton or Sibley in 3-5-2 with 2 of Collins, Washington and Wagorn up front.  Alternatively, Smith and Fornah then 3 of Sibley, Embleton, Barkhuizen, NML, Collins, Washington and Waghorn in the attacking 3.
Lots of options, probably for the first time this season, that could be effective with 3, 4 or 5 at the back.  As someone once said, “Players win you games, not tactics”.  He then went on to say something about people talking a lot about tactics and dominos, must have had a premonition about this forum 😉.

A bit flat in the first half, with rare flashes of good play (mostly from Wilson).
We got better as the 2nd half progressed. Barks goal probably a key factor. It was good to see a nukber of players returning from injury making an impact - Wilson, Sibley and Barkhuizen all playing important roles in the win. All 3 deserve to start vs Carlisle.
It was a weak Lincoln side so it'll be interesting to see if we can carry the improvement through to the gane at the weekend.

I know this is tongue in cheek but I also hate the idea that people can't criticise Warne without the assumption that they want him to fail.
On the contrary, I want him to prove me wrong

I’d rather have the ball than not have the ball. But Warne seems to favor not having the ball and creating chances through second balls, picking up loose balls in dangerous areas and feeding off the opposition mistakes.
Honestly, this is the easiest way of setting up a team and requires the least amount of technical coaching.
I just don’t like it. Never have.
From Jim Smith to George Burley to Steve McClaren, I like technical football which requires skill, bravery on the ball and vision.
I get making do with what you have. I understand why Nigel Clough took years to finally play some decent stuff until he had the players to do so.
But what is Warne’s excuse. Hourihane, Bird and Smith are ball-playing midfielders. Probably among the best in the league. Why bypass that with aimless long balls to Wash, Waghorn and ‘Collo’.

Not quite sure what your point is about Plymouth.
Their first four league matches as you say they lost two, but they’d also won two.
After the first match in Sept (Derby away) they’d played 7, won 5 and lost 2 in the league including wins against Bolton, Peterborough and Derby.  Their next defeat was in December including a run of 15 league matches unbeaten. Two defeats in their first twenty games.
Personally………..I’d love a stuttering start like that! 👍
