Well you have changed your tune a bit. Seems like you now realise it's possible to bring in some players over the summer.

I don’t recall ever saying we won’t be able to bring players in this summer.

Players don’t care where they go, as long as they are paid well.

I hope we blow automatics and mess up in the playoffs. Or else it's going be a long season hiding behind the sofa, scared of the mighty Hull and this incredible Watford side.

Half the Hull side is made up of loans from the PL.

Seems like the way to go as the likes of Liverpool have shown they have a number of talented youngsters who aren’t going to break into their first-team.

  3. The obvious solution to the FA Cup is simple.

Prior to kick-off, ask teams whether they want a one-off game or the possibility of a replay.

A one-off game can only ensue if the decision is unanimous in favor of a one-off game.

Most PL and Championship teams will favor one-off games so you will get plenty of all PL one-off ties but it gives the smaller clubs a bigger chance of a payday.

  4. I’ve lost a lot of interest in boxing since the decline of the welterweight division. The heavyweight scene peaked interest for a while but since Saudi came about the prized fighters are just holding everything up.

Boxing was better when Eddie was just UK based and we had decent UK shows.

His expansion into the US and move away from Sky affected UK boxing in a bad way and then the Saudi money has made it worse, despite the Matchroom/Queensbury love-in.

Mane is 3/4 rungs up the ladder from Nunez, Klipperty had a gamble on him and failed...£64million doesn't buy you that much these days 😉

Mane was in his prime at Liverpool. Núñez is only 24. A bit of perspective is needed. Núñez has come up with some crucial goals for Liverpool this season, scoring last-minute winners at Newcastle and Forest. He was also the first player this season to reach both 10 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League, which is usually reserved for KDB or Salah.

As long as I get the important things right, I don’t mind going wrong on some of the smaller details.

Have Liverpool won a game since you predicted they would win the treble?

And now as soon as you jump ship to Arsenal they blow it as well 😂

Let me guess, you predict Man City will win it now?

Please please please do us a favour and predict Bolton or Peterborough to go up in 2nd place 🙏

I have a 50/1 accumulator I do every season looking pretty good. Derby promotion is included in that 😀

But I didn’t realize the season had already finished.

Half the Liverpool team wouldn’t get into city’s second XI. And Arsenal are no better. The surprise is that city haven't already won it.

    Crazy talk.

Liverpool have got some brilliant players - Allison, Van Dijk, Salah, McAllister and Robertson would get in any side in the PL.

Jota, Konate, Szoboszlai, Trent and Diaz are all top quality too.

City have a core group of world class players in Dias, Rodri, KDB, Foden, Walker, Bernardo Silva and Haaland (Stones, Gvardiol and Ederson are top quality too) but I don’t think Liverpool or Arsenal would look at Akanji, Doku, Ake, Alvarez, Grealish, Bobb, Lewis, Nunes or Kovacic as players that would improve them.

Not so sure about that Bris about winning all 6, citeh are like a war machine they don’t stop

They do seem to come into their own at this time of year.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal losing is big too, as if either had drawn, they could at least still have GD on their side.

You do get the feeling Arsenal and Liverpool will have to go 6/6 now, because while I don’t see City winning all six, you’re asking a lot for them to drop points in two games.

City could afford their annual loss at Spurs if their rivals also drop more points.

    This aged well.

City won’t win all 6. They never score at Spurs, let alone win, and with CL and FA Cup games too their schedule is hectic.

Today was a big surprise though. I thought the others may slip up in an away game, not at home.

City probably can’t believe their luck.

Palace don't seem to be getting any decisions at Liverpool.

    Very few away teams do.

It’s a big week for Liverpool. They have a mountain to climb in Atalanta before playing 3 PL away games on the spin in a week.

Their season could seriously crumble in the next two weeks.

I had them down to win the title, but I’m edging towards Arsenal now.

City’s fixture pile up will catch up with them, especially if they go far in the CL.

Arsenal have scored the most in the premier league this season. Big, physical Arsenal.

I mean, I did write that it applies outside the PL, as with all the riches in the world the best players at the likes of City, Liverpool and Arsenal have technical ability + physicality in abundance.

But sure, you go ahead and write a snarky ‘got you’ comment. 🤷‍♂️

To be honest it seems like the original point was pretty much aimed at taking the attention away from a good win that’s puts us in the box seat and diverting the match day thread into arguments over warne style and choice of players , just so predictable posting and perhaps more obvious than you realise to those who bother to read
of course it’s not trolling 😜

The original post was that physical teams score more goals from corners and set-pieces than technical teams which was in response to a post praising our ability at set-pieces.

I don’t even know why this would trigger the volatile reaction.

In this thread alone there are several posts with strong and personal remarks about Warne and some of the players. Far harsher than anything I write.

Yet I post something and suddenly I’m trolling, or people are quick to cry about it.

I say it’s clear to anyone without an agenda that Warne has signed players both with technical ability (Ward, Wilson, Embleton, John-Jules, CBT) AND those with physicality in their game (Nelson, Nyambe, Bradley, Adams).

He does favour an athleticism to his sides, but acting as though he hasn’t also signed and played players with some technical ability is very much the pushing of an agenda that goes on on here and amongst the fan base. How can some people claim he’s stubborn in his selection of Hourihane in one breath then say he only uses physical players in another?

We’re not a perfect team, there’s been some frustrating games this season for sure and some shocking performances, there’s also been some good stuff too.
I really find the stance of “this or that” to be so tedious.

Being objective I think people should be able to admit there’s at least some use of technical players this season and last (McGoldrick, Sibley, NML, Hourihane, Barkhuizen, Ward, Wilson, Bird) alongside the athleticism of others. Almost as if the team needed a blend of both and it’s worked to the point of putting the side in touching distance of automatic promotion…. But that’s just my opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nobody expects a full flair side of 5 ft 6 players, likewise nobody expects a team of 6ft 3 cloggers. Even Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich had some technical players like McGoldrick and Judge.

Just because Warne has signed Joel Ward doesn’t mean he doesn’t prefer a physical side. And claiming Kane Wilson is technical. The guy is nicknamed the buffalo for a reason. He is a bulldozer, no technique about him.

Warne clearly favors a physical team over a technical one. And it hasn’t served him badly in League One as he closing in on four promotions. But in most cases, it doesn’t serve you well in the Championship.

I feel he will either need to change his approach, or somehow hope Clowes gives him a top half budget to compete.

Warne + a bottom half budget = likely battle against relegation.

Love the way people say the league is of its lowest quality for years.

Good job IF we do go up were going into the championship thats of equally low quality.

This weekend 2 of its top 3 lost to relegation threatened sides.. one infront of their own fans heaven forbid 😱

I think it’s largely the thought of seeing Sheff Wed and Plymouth, two sides who looked better than the current Derby side, struggle to hit 50 points in the Championship.

I see us currently weaker than teams like QPR, Huddersfield and Wednesday so we will need to have a decent summer (or a manager who can excel on a budget) to give us a chance next season.

  16. 31 minutes ago, jono said:

Not true. The “original” comment you made was that Warne favours grunt football. So please stop shifting the goal posts.

We may struggle next season to get the right players, simply on the basis of funds available relative to our competitors, but that doesn’t make Warne Neanderthal… which WAS your original point no matter how you duck and dive. Sorry Bris, I hate falling out with people but you are a scratched record from a dull band.

I said Warne is closer to McCarthy than McClaren. Are you saying that statement is wrong?

I’d like to see the evidence that shows Warne prefers flair over physicality.

Have to remember next season whatever league were it’ll be our first in as long as i can remember without any embargo, restrictions or strict efl business plan.

Im not expecting us to be reckless, but the simple fact is were one of the best supported clubs outside the premiership, hell the country.

im expecting a bit of an overhaul, theyll be plenty of players if derby county come knocking theyll answer our call.. play infront of 30 thousand … we aint going to struggle to attract better players next year, regardless of where we are.

within our own budget that said, im not expecting us to spend millions again, but we can be shrewd

    coyr

It will be interesting to see the type of player Warne wants. So far our signings under him scream physicality, which in fairness we did need after being a soft touch at times last season.

But next season, we will need more control to compete. Trying to just outwork and outrun teams at Championship level won’t work, but I’m sure Warne is aware of this having been relegated with Rotherham twice playing that way.

  18. 11 minutes ago, jono said:

Thing is, I didn’t. We play mixed football most of the time. Sometimes physical, sometimes technical. We play in a way promotion teams play in League one. Are you suggesting that only technical teams win in the championship or indeed in football in general ?

The irony is that it is a player like Adams who is both physical and technical has made a huge difference to our performance as a team when for example Bird and Hourihan for all their technical abilities have struggled in physical games. You play in a way to beat the opposition. To suggest Warne is fixated on a style as Macarthy often was is as inaccurate as it is unjust.

The original point I made was that more physical sides are better at set-pieces than technical sides. For some reason you claim this is drivel when it’s pretty evident, especially outside of PL level where the riches allow Liverpool and City to have players who possess both.

Warne evidently favors physicality over technical ability. The reason why Adams looks technical is because he is playing a league below. Derby’s players are better than most at this level, regardless of physical attributes. Adams didn’t cut it at Championship level with Cardiff yet League One appears a breeze for him.

Warne has succeeded by getting us to at least match, often overcome the opponent’s physical attributes while seeing our higher individual quality come through. We have won countless games this season just through individual quality - the sort of quality the opponents don’t possess.

At Championship level we won’t be able to rely on that, because with a lower half budget, we’ll likely come up against opponents of better individual quality.
