He has zero to do with the issues we now find ourselves in, but he has acted with utter class.
He's had no money and is playing a number of players he knows aren't good enough (at least at the moment) without a word of complaint publicly.
He's just got on with his job and tried to get this team playing decent football with one hand tied behind his back, wearing lead boots and being made to wear a balaclava the wrong way around.
And then he hears about going into administration on TV like the rest of us and rather than whining or walking out he gets on with his job.
I really like what I'm seeing, especially when you consider he's in his first year of management and the second youngest boss in the entire football league.
He should have control of this team if/when he has money to spend, or at the very least until the end of this season.
If he does walk or get pushed, I for one will be bitterly disappointed.

Ha, I'm sure thats a sarcastic post. That argument though if anyone makes it is irrelevant. Fans will always demand spending and new signings but actually the fans don't know the state of finances, plus it is not the fans' responsibility to make sure the club is properly run. Some people were questioning high transfer fees spent on players and a lot more would have questioned these kinds of situations if they had known exactly the wages involved and the financial climate of the club. The custodians of the club have a duty to make sure the club is secure short and long term. Morris and Pearce have let the fans down. I also think the EFL need to be under more scrutiny. While it is great a variety of clubs are represented, there needs to be some independence as some of their behaviour seems wrong and vindictive.

There will always be interest, look at Rangers FC. Derby is a well supported club, especially for the size of the city. Not many cities can boast Derby's attendances in proportion to their size. Even if interest wanes a bit it will always be there and can come back.

This is a thought and I have no basis for it. What if the EFL knew that DCFC were going into administration and the 9 points + 3 suspended was for that not FFP.
Covid is very relevant as if we can show we are going into Administration due to Covid then we might not get -12 points as we could never have forseen or planned for it.
That said we have had a number of years of financial mismangement

Most others would have walked away I'm sure. Credit to Rooney. Got the team playing, working hard, faces the media, has been promised lots of things that haven't materialised. He is showing true leadership qualities. If we go down fighting this season, Rooney can hold his head high as can the players.

I think the point is that not many opposing managers would have been even that gracious.
Can you imagine Warnock even coming close? Those late penalty shouts would have had him frothing in the 4th officials ear.

In the interview Mel Morris makes some valid points about covid, parachute payments, Derby’s accounting policy and the football system being broken. He’s gambled a lot of money and it hasn’t worked out. He has not deliberately set out to ruin the club and his gamble almost paid off, achieving a playoff final. Ultimately however, his tenure is a failure, he has admitted this. The massive increase in wages did not necessarily make the team better, the club often made losses on players and the increase in debts has made the situation severe.
I am unclear about the situation with charges and EFL withholding money during covid times, it seems that the EFL has a lot to answer for also, when accounting professionals had signed off Derby’s accounting practises etc and there has been almost a vendetta against the club or chairman it seems.
I am wondering what Stephen Pearce’s role has been? A CEO but where is his accountability to ensure we have been kept financially secure? Has Morris’ tenure been almost a dictatorship?
The worry now is the debts are so big no one will buy the club, could Derby County cease to exist soon? It’s easy to dismiss that idea as Derby is a big well supported club but the current climate with lack of assets owned coupled with debts and costs seems to be awful.
Covid has been terrible for Derby but I’m guessing debts were spiralling long before this. I heard from someone important at the club about unsustainable spending back with big figures mentioned around 2016. The financial mismanagement has been going on for a long time chasing the Premier League.
Under Mel’s tenure we have had some good times and he has helped develop the academy and training ground but it looks serious right now.
Just hope we have a club to support

IF (and it's still a big IF) the worse does happen, I would predict 1 of 2 things happens - either we do a Rangers and just pretend we're still the same club once a new club is fromed (as a business Called Derby COunty Football Club) and never shut up about how we're totally that same club that won the FA cup and the league twice (whilst forest and leicester fans never shut up about how we're not). Or. We create a phoenix club al la AFC Wimbledon that spritually is the continuation of Derby County (e.g. Derby City or something).
Either way, Derby is a city that loves it's football club and that love, demand, passion and drive will eventually lead to a professional football team in the top two divisions of english football.

As a Forest fan I have no axe to grind here and as I've said I feeling genuinely appalled at what's happened to your club but can I just say that I and I suspect many external observers will find your attitude incredibly generous almost to point of disbelief. I mean of course he wanted success everyone does, but the way he's gone about it is surely unforgiveable. He has knowingly and willingly sold/mortgaged almost every bit of your club. He has recklessly played fast and loose with regulations and guidelines, not just of the EFL but of the  HMRC. These regulations aren't  new and cannot be described as anti-Derby - instead he has at every turn it seems taken decisions that would/will have dire consequences for the whole DCFC institution; the club, the players business the length and breadth of the city....
As for what happens now, well the the administrators are in control. Any legal actions being taken by creditors will stop so you can't go in to compulsory liquidation (moratorium). The administrator will put a plan together and must submit that proposals to all creditors within 8 weeks of the administration starting.

The administrators role is to act in the interests of eh people who are owed money by Derby, not in not Derby's interests, and if they  believe that the club is not a viable entity going forward then the administrators can/will liquidate the company.
Given the info Mel just implied re some of the outstanding issues, I hate to say it but liquation is really not out of the question at all. Sorry guys
re buyers- the thing to consider is that as DCFC doesn't own the stadium of the training ground either I believe, the club's only assets are the players - so not much. Plus your debt is around £37 Million as its 26 Million to HMRC, 6 Million in transfer fees and 5 Million roughly to Cocu and his staff. So any new buyer is looking at buying a club and paying off those debts, when they only get the players for it .... and you'll probably be in League 21 after a +20 points deduction .... seriously guys, good luck.

Those slamming Mel should pause for a moment to think about his intentions.
I do not - for a minute - think he's intended to run the club down.
He has spent millions, not to run the club into debt, but to chase the dream. We all supported that chase.
Even though he's managed things badly, which he admits, I do believe that he genuinely thinks the only way he can get new owners in is to put the club into administration.
I'm very far from happy about that, actually been crying about it, but I think it's sincere on his part.

in times of crisis u need people to step upto the plate and that’s exactly wot hes doing. hes one of the few positives about this club at the moment, along with the fans
