We've been to the Jura (Domaine du Chalain) in Eastern France about half dozen times and love it. Also been to near Saumer.

This year we're in Le Bugue (19 miles from Sarlat).

Thanks for your best wishes. She had the treatment (surgery, chemo and radiotherapy) just before Covid and everything seems to be OK now.

Mmm, not been to the Jura as yet, will have to consider that. I'll do some googling.

When I said eastern France I meant Alsace-Lorraine area, Colmar in particular and its environs is lovely and you can pop into Germany or Switzerland for the day.

Whereabouts in the Loire? We’ve been there a few times.

We’re driving (as in I’m doing all the driving) to a site in the Dordogne in 5 weeks. We’re not resort people and can’t even be doing with hotels. Our first overseas holiday since Covid, my mum passing away and my wife’s cancer diagnosis. I think we deserve one.

    Near Saumur if I recall.

Yes, I do all the driving as well ?

Dordogne is nice, been to Sarlat (Calviac), Bergerac (Saint Foy la Grande) and Les Eyzies on different trips but we don't like going to the same place twice.

Would definitely recommend Eastern France if you haven't been already.

Sorry to hear about your mum and wife, hope it's not severe and can enjoy your time away.

Corfu has a lot of untouched, non-resort areas, as have all the Greek Islands.

I'm sure it does and i'm sure it's lovely.

It's just what we booked, well, we both weren't feeling the love so we changed it.

  4. I kind of agree with @KBB to some extent.

Whilst I do live in Derby, it took me 50 years to get here and I'm not from the area so haven't developed the local hatred ( is that too strong?)

The only team I have any real dislike for is Leicester and that's because of the play-off final, their Admin shenanigans and the sickly media love-in they had.

I would have preferred Luton to go up as I went to school there for 4 years, or Huddersfield because of great Aunt Minnie who's funeral I attended.

Dad was a Wednesday fan so not Sheff Utd either.

    Huddersfield it is then ?

I always like the threads where forum members tell us how they got to be Derby fans. Have enjoyed following the Sport Bible thread on Twitter this week so thought we could waste some time with it on here as we're waiting (again). Added a couple as have taken out Your team which is a bit obvious

Another crass and unsubstantiated comment. How do you know that only I have this opinion, am assuming you've taken a consensus of all of the forum members to gain this fact.

Anyhows upwards and onwards or whatever they say.

We could take a poll if you like?

Or, let's move on as you suggest.

We're all on the same side here I think.

    Onwards and upwards it is.

@G STAR RAM has already beaten me to this.

I still also cannot fathom the need to try and defend the indefensible.

Nowhere have I defended his actions, you made an assumption based on your own prejudiced reading of the post.

I just offered an alternative timeline, extrapolation common in SF.

It's probably way off the mark and we don't live in that timeline anyway but is it plausible? Who knows.

If my auntie had a thingie she'd be my uncle immediately springs to mind.

None of us know what you've speculated on would have transpired it's pure conjecture.

Of course it's conjecture, 99% of this thread is conjecture.

I'm just postulating an alternative scenario.

    Is it plausible? Who knows.

Has Mel done a lot of damage? Yes

Was any of it deliberate? I don't think so.

  12. If covid hadn't happened I reckon we wouldn't now have the HMRC debt we do.

Mel would have changed the amortization policy, taken a 9 point deduction and settled with Gibson.

A couple of player sales, (Knight?Sibley?) to pay down debt and heavy use of the academy a la this season and where would we be?

Lower mid in the championship, a team with sell on potential, lower overall debt and a more saleable club.

So, are we being too harsh on Mel? Does he deserve the level of abuse he's getting on here?
