From what I understand, the XR movement came from the Occupy lot and are under the umbrella of Compassionate Revolution

CR are an anti-establishment campaign group looking to force systemic change via peaceful, mass civil disobedience

    Their literature states

Now I've read dozens of posters on here stating that they don't think we have a functioning democracy. In fact it's probably the one belief that unites us all.

Fair enough if people disagree with their tactics, but what would you suggest as an alternative?

I don't always disagree with their tactics but I'm starting to think that we won't see any change unless there is a mass people-led movement against the current system

Maybe once gas & electric bills are £4k per year and there isn't enough food to go round, people might start to think they haven't much left to lose...

are you aware of what sort of system it is, that they would like to replace the current one with?

Starting watching The Newsreader on i-Player (Aussie drama set in a TV Newsroom in 1986). Two episodes in - pretty good so far.

Thanks for this. Must have passed me by. Don't ever recall it being shown or trailed on BBC.

One of my all time favourite shows is The Newsroom (Jeff Daniels). This looks similar. Will check it out. ?

I must be in the minority on here, i enjoy the banter at the football.

Presumably you were not one of the fans then, who seemed to get upset by  Leicester fans singing songs with factually incorrect lyrics. That's even if they understood what was being sung!  I mean , who would get upset over such a thing?

I've never actually gone home in an ambulance, but it didn't bother me. I was quite pleased about it.

Is there anyone on here, who lives in or knows , the Portsmouth, Isle of Wight area? As I'm looking to ask a couple of stupid questions if possible.

'tis ok, apparently trips off now anyway. ?

Don't want to sound flippant but I've flown from Manchester 3 times in the past couple of months....security queues haven't been anything like the media have been hysterical about, longest it took me to get through is probably 15 to 20 mins.

The biggest queue I encountered was for the bar at 5 in the morning. Sounds boring but I can't even think of anything of any consequence to tell you about.

Same for me, (but Stansted instead of Manchester) . Twice in the last three weeks. No delays of any kind . Security queues, yes busy, but no more than it normally is.

    Elvis (2022)

I hate Baz Luhrman films, and I only know a few Elvis hits, but this was bloody fantastic.

I think it probably plays fast and loose with the truth but who cares when it's this entertaining?

Amazing performance by Austin Butler as Elvis and even Tom Hanks is watchable in his creepy Tom Parker/narrator role. Absolutely electric from start to finish.

Expected it to be an Andy King, ended up being a "King" Kevin.

Agreed. Not especially an Elvis fan, but I really enjoyed it. I think it's the first Baz Luhrmann film I've ever watched . Kind of restored my faith in cinema after watching the absolute pile of poo that was top gun maverick......and yes, I'm well aware that I appear to be in a minority of one when it comes to that film !

Just having a conversation with a friend looking to change jobs and it's astounding how often people are offered a pay rise or sweeteners when they put their notice in, but seemingly neglected and taken for granted when in the role.

Last year, I left a little firm in Nottingham (not for financial reasons), but in the last hour of my last day, the MD said he could offer me upto 65% pay rise to stay. Which meant they overvalued me and underpaid me consciously! They had already offered to pay me extra to not take the last week off. I ended up about £900 better off.

Anyone experienced anything weird when handing their notice in?

are you saying that once you were offered that, you decided to stay?

Hey, when I wrote that, I had no idea you were going to York!

I'm trying to figure out why you're arriving in Derby on match day, at 2pm , wondering if you've time to buy a ticket. Why 2pm? Why not 11am, or 8am . Where are you setting off from , that gets you to Derby at 2?

Apologies if you're walking from York!?

Thanks, after 7 1/2 weeks in Scotland we're off to Yorkshire for 3 days and then Derby for 3 days. Unfortunately arriving in Derby around 2 on Saturday so trying to figure out if I have enough time to get from the hotel and get tickets for the trial match.

Sorry Mr Stagtime, but for such a well organized and lengthy trip, that last sentence looks like a right Shambles ?

  10. Cost of living , and travel ,will definitely impact crowd figures for next season. Even if we'd have stayed in the championship. Talk of gas and electric going up by another 50% again in October. Fuel costs up massively, especially for fans coming from any distance. High inflation, low or no pay rise. Something has to be given up .

  11. Saw Top Gun Maverick last night. I'd meant to get to it earlier, on the local IMAX screen, but had left it too late , as it's been replaced by the latest Jurassic thingy.

So instead, I saw it on a screen X , where the picture is also on the side walls as well as the screen. That was a waste of time, and added nothing. Though possibly it would be better if viewed from the back row.

Was pretty bored through the film . It's a while since I saw the original, and this seemed nowhere near as good. Maybe that's just rose tinted specs . I need to re watch the first one.

I don't mind suspending belief at the door sometimes, but this was nuts.

Loved the flying scenes though ! As good, if not better than I was expecting.
