  1. A few points, turnover will be up this season, given the big attendances in the latter half of the season. Quite possibly half a million or so more.

Also, pre COVID we hit £31 million turnover in the championship if I recall, with the revised TV deal that should be higher next season.

  2. I strongly suspect DC will be aiming to run the club as close to break even as possible. The extra turnover will cover the existing annual loss as long as they don't go mad with squad size etc.

If an additional investor comes along I'd wonder if that will be selling more new shares, or buying out some of CD's shareholding, plus buying some new shares.

Ipswich did this recently, a USA based hedge fund bought something like £100 million of new shares, leaving them somewhat cash rich. Good if they get promoted!

  3. I think there is no need to renew Warnes contract, and the next review will be at the end of next season, unless results are a disaster before then.

You only have to look at the team Brian Clough put together. Plenty of unfancied players who were grafters, and previously journeymen. Amazing what attitude, belief and momentum can do. Adams has dropped into the right place at the right time, he is loving it and just look at him grow!

    Wilson and Cashin too!

The Prem want to change the rules again . The season after next - teams will be limited to spending £500 million per season. Why the limit ? Because they are afraid American Hedge Funds will buy up Prem teams and pump £Billions in - and upset the top 6 monopoly . Parachute payments as we know help teams like Leicester and Burnley to bounce straight back up . The whole system needs a overhaul asap.

It could be so simple too. Any team declaring a trading loss (Cash flow in v cash flow out - No fancy accounting) has an immediate substantial points deduction, applied at the time, AND again at the start of the next season. Then a salary cap, removal of all parachute payments, and relegation clause in all contracts reducing wages down to championship/league one levels. Simple.

Elder isn't a bad fullback, but he's struggled with injury (out for 20 league games) and has limited ability as a wingback.
Don't know if I'd count him as a 'miss' but definitely not a hit.

Hes looked pretty decent when he came back from in jury, shame he then got injured again. I suspect he might be a good player for us next season if he can stay fit. A good pre season will help.

  6. CD certainly does have the firepower to own and run the club. They may not make a big song and dance ( like DC!) but take a read of their most recent annual report. Impressive well run business, no dividends paid to shareholders either. Everything reinvested. Their property portfolio they are taking income from is massive.

  7. I've actually enjoyed being in league one. We have played teams who are often teams you only hear in the results round up, I've visited The Valley, my first away ground, no bloated, failed premier league squads funded by parachute payments, proper football grounds, proper lower league football.

Mostly 3pm saturday kick offs too. Whats not to like?

Full marks to the teams, and supporters in the lower leagues. Great respect for them.

We have clawed our way out and time to move on, with lessons learned on and off the field I hope.

My big worry is that the championship is still the arena of lost dreams and massive overspending, with dreams often not fulfilled.

How many will be sober enough to actually see the match? 😂

It's a pity we can't get a few more building the atmosphere inside the ground, rather than in local hostelries. I take it some people only know how to support the team when they are half cut?

I for one never drink before or at the match and I'm at my seat 20 minutes before kick off. Don't understand the need to have half a gallon of ale before going to the game. Particularly at 9am!

Not that I don't like a pint, just don't bother at the game. It goes straight through!

Fully agree about the awful music and other nonsense like that poem coming out of the speakers so loud you have to shout at the person next to you

Best i've seen one on one with a goalie play for us.  Pretty sure he's the only Derby player I've seen get a hat trick of free kicks as well.  Think it was against Portsmouth.

Didn't Simmo get a hat trick against Portsmouth at the BBG which resulted in Jim Smith getting the sack?

a club promoted from League 1 to the Championship would see a significant increase in their income:

Each Championship club receives £11.6m per season from the EFL's central distribution and Premier League solidarity payments.

In contrast, a mid-table League One team currently receives only £2.2m per season.

Under the proposed new deal, that same mid-table Championship club would receive £17.5m per season - an increase of £5.9m.

So on average, a League 1 club promoted to the Championship would see their income increase by around £5.9 million per season.

This is a substantial boost that can make a big difference for the financial health and competitiveness of the promoted club.

on average, the TV rights for Championship clubs are worth around £11.6 million per season. This is nearly 5 times more than the £2.2 million received by a typical League 1 club.

Additionally, Championship clubs get paid around four times as much for hosting TV games on Sky Sports. The facility fee is £100,000 for Friday night and Saturday games, £120,000 for a Sunday game, and £140,000 for a Thursday game in the Championship, compared to very rare televised fixtures for League One clubs.

Half of that income increase will cover the existing loss, so don't expect a huge amount of activity. I expect 3-4 higher grade players arriving, a similarish number leaving and several new contracts for key young players.

I hope that will give us a stable platform to aim for "middle third" of the championship.

Serious question, given that the club has to be financially self supporting, where do you expect the extra cash to come from?

    I Like that 🙂

I imagine the team will evolve a little this summer, but I'm not expecting 8-9 players to arrive. I hope to see new contracts, extensions and some released as said above. If they can do one bit of business buying Adams has got to be a priority, plus a new young, and robust striker. I hope Warne is on the phone to Cardiff first thing next monday to discuss a deal for Adams.

I'd suggest we should try to get a new younger centre half if somebody comes available, planning for the future, and generally aim for a younger team. So Sibley, Thompson, Wilson, Wildsmith are all good investments for the future.

The club will have extra income of circa £10-12 million next season, but that will soon get used up, covering existing losses, and quite probably higher wages. I hope to see the club in a break even scenario next season, and only see sales when the price is right and it suits us.
