Out of interest I wandered onto a Derby County thread on a Middlesbrough forum. Unsurprisingly they seem to have the view that Steve Gibson is an honest owner who plays by the rules and Mel Morris is a dishonest owner who cheats. When someone mentions Steve Gibson moving profit around his different companies to keep Middlesbrough the right side of P&S/FFP (as referenced in Mel Morris’ statement on Friday) they say it is normal business practice. But so is what Mel Morris did at Derby with amortisation! I can’t see the difference other than the EFL worked a charge against Derby (to avoid being sued by Middlesbrough) and Mel Morris put Derby into administration. It is not a big stretch to see a set of circumstances where the EFL could have worked a charge against Middlesbrough and Steve Gibson put Middlesbrough into administration. I guess the Middlesbrough fans only know some elements of the Derby story and are fed propoganda from the North East? But the difference in their views of Steve Gibson and Mel Morris were to me quite shocking.
(I am no fan of Mel Morris by the way, he is still the root cause of Derby’s current issues).

so Ashley Bid is well below the expected figure, less than the Binnies and a bid which would have resulted in us starting next season with -15 points.
He’s now reportedly “fuming” when the admins tell him to **** off and put a serious bid in.

I believe the the story is suggesting there is an insurance policy that could be taken out at a cost of £2.5m, not that we already have a policy in place.

I've just had a look at the QPR forum and found this:
"if not said already, where has all their money gone from the play off final v us, clubs agreed losing team took the money, i think around £40m that's a chunk of dosh"
So apparently we've got £80m lying around somewhere from our two play-off finals

Mel's statement was designed to flush out intent. Does Gibson want compensation for his perceived loss as he claims or does he want to just destroy dcfc?
I agree they may well say its dcfc they are after and Mel may well have to indemnify dcfc but at least now the pressure has just sky rocketed on the parasites and the EFL.

They should say absolutely nothing at this stage. And ‘we’ should not be encouraging them to make a statement (not that they will be swayed by fan opinions). If Morris has done one thing he has shone a big media spotlight on both Gibson and the EFL. Quantuma should say nothing until both the other parties have put out their response, which they will be hounded to do early next week by media outlets, MPs, and supporter groups. Once they have made their reply Quantuma can use though replies to their better advantage.

Could it now be any clearer? In the space of 48 hours the EFL have stated BOTH that the club has the offer of EITHER 'impartial' arbitration OR the High Courts as a means to satisfy claims AND that they now acknowledges MFC/WWFC as football creditors, which would leave arbitration as the sole route forward. Wholly contradictory statements and yet another example of their contemptuous abuse of power. There has been no discussion, no arbitration and no independent input to this decision, rather it is a call made arbitrarily and unilaterally by the EFL board with no outside consultation and in contravention of their own directives. Do these clowns even read what they regurgitate into the public domain? Do they not even cross-reference the claims made in one with the other? The inconsistencies (read: huge ducking porkies) are glaring and have been for two years now. Likewise Gibson who appears to have the attention span of a hungry toddler and the linguistic skills of one too.
Heads must now roll at the EFL. There is NO ROOM FOR DOUBT anymore. In their poorly conceived and executed PR campaign seeking to shift the onus to Morris, the admins and even the 'highest bidder', they have absolutely tied themselves in knots and in doing so, have threatened both the stability and integrity of the League they are meant to govern and serve.
At this point, the 72 member clubs simply must act. There can be no remaining doubt that the EFL prioritises its own interests over those of its member clubs. Ladies and gentlemen, the tail is clearly wagging the dog. This is, of course, a wholly unacceptable state of affairs and will inevitably lead to chaos should the precedent they seek to set be entertained. Every subsequent season will start with multiple different fixture lists as the governing body and civil courts wade through dozens of spurious football related claims, clubs will be forced into admin and /or liquidation and the league system as we know it, will fail. A vote of no confidence and the immediate resignations of Rick Parry and Trevor Birch are now mandatory requirements on the long road back to credible and impartial governance of the League. For any governing body, as custodians of football, to bring bring the English game into such hopeless disrepute is simply unforgiveable and action must be taken sooner rather than later, irrespective of the situation at Derby County.
As for Messrs Gibson and Couhig, your bluff has now been called. If you truly believe in the veracity of your claims and are not simply looking to leverage the threat of liquidation to extort funds from a club who has already accepted its punishment (in keeping with the EFL's own directives), it's time for you to accept Mr Morris's offer of your day in court. Any other course of action will merely confirm suspicions of the very unsavoury motivations that have led to what appears to have been a merit-less witch-hunt borne solely out of greed and petty personal grievances. I'm looking at you specifically Gibson. You chose to prioritise continuing your spat with Mel Morris over the future of the club, the welfare of it's employees, the sustainability of local businesses and the mental health of the wider community. This will NEVER be forgotten, nor forgiven. I speak only for myself when I say that having been a chairman whom I once held in high regard, I have now come to despise everything for which you stand.
I trust also that those on this forum who openly mocked posters who for two years have openly expressed the view that the EFL's treatment of Derby County Football Club has been less than impartial, will now take time to think about whether said posts were fair, warranted or helpful. Hindsight, it is true, is a wonderful thing, but so too is an open mind.
A last thought in regards to Mel Morris; Mel, I was one of your staunchest supporters. I was wrong. It broke my heart when you placed the club into administration. Perhaps there are mitigating circumstances as yet unknown, but we are where we are and you sir, were the custodian of this club we all love. Inevitably, the buck stops with you. All of this notwithstanding, thank you for the steps you have now taken to break the impasse. What's done can't be changed, but I do hope that this will at least give harsher critics some small pause for thought.

Re this being a MFC vs DCFC thing and that being the basis for Gibson declining Mel’s offer:
If that’s the case, what is MFC’s endgame here? If they win, there’s no money to pay them so it’s liquidation. Gibson knows that, so if that’s the intended endgame fine, but please don’t trot out meaningless platitudes about not wanting us liquidated and not wanting the fans to suffer because rejecting Mel’s offer makes it abundantly clear to everyone that liquidation is their required outcome.
If it’s about recouping lost earnings then Mel’s just given you the perfect route. The only route. The catch, no kangaroo court to deliver your fait accompli verdict, so how confident are you with your fairytale claims?
Gibson can easily decline this, but there’s no real way of doing it without looking like a proper c***. It’s also the EFL’s only and last chance to avoid setting a precedent that will have huge, negative, ramifications for the future of football.

Yes but the narrative and look of all parties doing so and not engaging will be horrendous. Only have to look at MPs posts from yesterday evening to see the pressure re the previous narrative peddled of them being ready to go with arbitration and us/Q not engaging in arbitration. I think that is possibly the most salient point from Mel's statement as, if correct, May 2022 does indeed show the collusion and vindictiveness in keeping us unsellable until well into the summer of 2022 mucking up another summer of planning for us. I will not forgive Mel for the financial mismanagement leading us to this point ever but with this I am perhaps understanding why he thought admin was the only option (even if we know it left us at the mercy of the sharks and wolves) although on any sale process he could have indemnified future owners for the claim as happens all of the time in transactions. So still think admin disastrous move but think I understand why he perhaps did it a little more - thinking that with him removed we may get fairer treatment. We didnt so he's back

Exactly what I've tried to say elsewhere today but better.
My concern with @kevinhectoringtype arguments for Mel to just 'sign whatever' is its splitting our argument/consensus and turning us on each other.
Most fans DO NOT want to pay off Boro. The single narrative should be that Boro and the EFL have been colluding to shaft us and so it should go the High Court.
MPs are arguing this, EFL have suggested it should be OK. Mel is on board and the public will see it as fair.

The reason he has done it this way is to make it clear that the only way for there to be a fair hearing is through the high court.
If he just agrees to indemnify the claim, the EFL and Middlesbrough will continue to push for closed shop arbitration rather than a court decision, where they can select their counsel to get the result they want. Their track record of impartiality when it comes to Derby County is pretty damning.
Mel Morris doesn't trust the EFL to play fair. I don't trust the EFL to play fair either.

Just been looking across forums and social media, gauge the reaction from the Boro side to the statement made tonight.
If they believed Gibson had a strong case, surely the reaction would be to say bring it on, but that's not the case at all.
The majority are not interested, he can't do that, doesn't mean it, even no to arbitration, just pay up with the £40m figure being banded around.
Did come across a few that would prefer to see this dropped completely, but as I say the majority appear to be more interested in extortion with the backing from Forest and Leeds fans.
I would hope that Gibson has bigger balls than his own fans, and the desire to see his claims of systematic cheating proven in a court of law.
What does he have to lose?
Continue his claims through arbitration where his counsel is not free until May, which by that point we could be liquidated and wouldn't see a penny anyway.
There is no bidder willing to pay extortion money, so this is the best offer he has of seeing a penny of what he thinks he's owed.
Anyhow, 1am that's enough. Weekend off now with Twitter notifications on for the EFL Comms account to see what the EFL's true intentions are for this club.

If Gibson is sure of his case he'll destroy MM in court. If he's not sure of his case, or his real motive is to destroy Derby County FC, he'll get shown up as the vindictive little banker he is.

Pre contract, he’s free end of season, this has more to do with an agent and Festy agreed.
Gutted but can’t blame the admins here, other than for the delay; afraid only Mel the real culprit here. He should’ve either been tied down longer or we shouldn’t have been in this position in the first place.

So, the earliest Boro wanted an arbitration meeting, despite being confident they were owed vast sums of money, was late May 2022.
Why do you think that was?
Because MM was trying to sell us and they knew nobody serious would with that hanging over proceedings.
Boro, in my opinion, have been wanting us completely ruined from the start.
    Gibson is a Bamford.
