SSD reacted to Scott129 in Depression, anxiety, stress and other related issues
Reviving this thread just to vent really.
My dad was diagnosed with cancer about a month ago. Since then, he's lost a ton of weight and has essentially stopped eating. So much so, he's ended up in the hospital receiving fluids today, and has an operation scheduled for next week.
My mental health has never been the best but, for obvious reasons, it has taken an absolute battering over the last few weeks. I'm struggling to sleep most nights and often find myself getting distracted thinking about worst-case scenarios.
What's more, I've not really had the chance to talk about it with anyone. Or maybe I have and I just don't know how to approach or take that opportunity. I actually feel like family members are trying to skirt round the issue to protect me a little bit. Are they waiting for me to go to them? Do I even want to address it directly?
And, for the life of me, I haven't got a clue how to 'announce' it to my friends, most of whom I've known for a good 20 years. Do you just drop a bombshell in the WhatsApp group? Or wait until we all get together socially so that I can decimate the mood spectacularly? Not a clue.
Took me about 45 minutes to write all of this FFS. **** cancer, man.

SSD reacted to uttoxram75 in The whole squad wants to stay.
Its easy to be cynical and scoff at the idea that the players want to stay but the evidence we've witnessed is that they have fought for each other and the manager, in the face of extraordinary obstacles, to such an extent that they have formed a bond.
From Curtis Davies to whoever is youngest, from the staff to the tea ladies, they have given their all for DCFC under Wayne Rooney, a "band of brothers" mentality has developed. We have seen it every game and responded with our own buy in. Never has the match day support been so forgiving.
A player makes an error and we get behind him.
We concede a goal and sing even louder.
Not many of the older players will have witnessed support like this season and I'm sure the younger lads will hear that from them and they probably feel part of something special anyway.
Inevitably some will leave, no doubt about it, but the offers will have to be decent and not just a bob or two above what they can expect here.
To those who are a bit cynical about it then you haven't stopped behind after the final whistle to share the love with the players - win or lose - its been unreal.
The South Stand is as loud 10 minutes after the final whistle as it has been during the match.

Me too. Bought our first little house for £8,450 in 1977 when I was twenty and sold it eight years later for £18,950. Particulars attached! ?
We moved into a new build in 1985 for which we paid £29,950. It was £28,950 but they put the price up when our house sale fell through. We stuck at it and eventually moved in eight months later and without a penny left in the bank to buy carpets, curtains etc. None of those things included in those days!
Like others, the mortgage rates really stung us in the 80s and we had one of those dreadful endowment mortgages. Instead of giving us a nice bonus on completion, we actually had to pay thousands extra to get it cleared, but we eventually managed it.
All those seemed big worries at the time, but still so much better than many young people today, who must be so far from owning their own home that they have given up trying.
I was in a lovely Derbyshire village yesterday. Most of the properties seemed to be weekend second homes for the older richer generation. No soul, no young families, no future?

The housing situation is disgusting at the moment.
I left home at 18 in the mid 90's, and even as a poorly paid manual worker I could just about manage a mortgage on a 3 bed semi with my then girlfriends wages.
No chance of that happening today, my lads 22 and is in a similar position, but despite 6 years of savings he's nowhere near being able to move into a home of his own.
Buy to let has completely distorted the market, alongside the lack of new stock.
I know steps have been taken to make BTL less attractive, but these steps have just made it slightly harder to be a new landlord, rather than discourage the practice altogether.
For me it's simple, you own one house you actually live in, and no more.
Let investors risk their money on the stock market, or other Investments, and let property be the essential thing we live in, not an asset to be plundered.

Morning folks, hope you're having a good Easter break! I've been stuck in a little bit of housing dilemma recently. Currently renting a place in Derby, it's not in a great area to be honest. It has done a job for us but now it's the time to move due to a change in job circumstances and the need for more space. Not ideal going from a rental to a rental but it will have to do whilst I'm saving for the ridiculously high deposit required to purchase my own property.
Drove up to a place near Burton for a viewing, really spot on location, was fitted to a good standard, the additionof a drive was welcome. After the viewing I said to the letting agent I'm willing to put down the deposit and go for it. All smiles, sounded positive. What they failed to tell me was 40-50 different parties were interested in the same house. One person was willing to pay 12 months rent up front. Similar scenario to another property I viewed about 5 weeks ago. And government wonders why there's a massive housing crisis. People on a modest income can't compete with them offers.
It's getting out of control to be honest, I've friends and family who are experiencing the same problems. I don't remember the situation being this bad even 4-5 years ago. I might have to try a private landlord instead as the letting agents are driving me nuts. Anyone else facing this issue currently?
