Linked last summer but he chose Championship football with Huddersfield. In and out of their side until returning to Villa - Villa claimed he was recalled, Huddersfield claimed they cancelled it (due to their 2 first team RBs returning to fitness).
If we are interested again, we'd be competing with a couple of Championship relegation candidates.

A fee comments on it, and I didn't intend to make this thread on Hourihane turn into a Bird and/or Thorne thread, but my comment was in direct response to "doesn't score anywhere near enough goals and doesn't assist either".
As a current DM who is heavily criticised for his end product (Bird), I drew a very direct comparison with a DM whose goal contribution output was never commented upon. I was not saying Bird is as good as Thorne.
It also links directly with comments made by Wildsmith on why he had to move away from Sheff Weds, regarding him being an academy product and easily moved aside for someone who was brought in. It's a common theme for some people to judge a players' overall contribution, even if they made their debut aged 16.

I dont think he's a DM, more of a tidy link up player who would be best slightly further up the pitch. However, in the recent past we did have a DM who was adored by the fans but his output was never questioned.
Thorne joined Derby aged 21 and scored 5 and assisted 6 in all competitions (73 apps). Thorne was playing in a side challenging for promotion every season and was surrounded with better players.
Bird turned 21 at the start of the 21/22 season and scored 4 goals and assisted 8 in all competitions since then (94 apps). Bird has only ever been in sides struggling towards the bottom of the table (until last season) with players not as good as those Thorne played with.
Bird had a career best of 8 goal contributions last season. Thorne's best was 7 in 15/16 with his next best being 4 in 13/14 (split between Watford and Derby).

Hes a difficult one to call. Scored just 4 goals in 35 league apps last season, then scored 7 in his last 4 apps.

Ben House - @Jubbs mentioned him in the past. 12 goals from 57 shots last season made him the 8th most clinical player last season (McGoldrick was 18th). No idea what his contract situation is or how much he'd cost though. Hard worker defensively, but not great in aerial duels or for creativity.
Sam Cosgrove - not favoured by many on here , but he ticks a lot of Warne boxes. Good in the air, at L1 level has a decent strike rate (25th most clinical) and has a good link up game.
Cole Stockton - also ticks a lot of Warne boxes. Whilst not as clinical as others I've mentioned (36th), he still averaged a goal every 6.3 shots. Good in the air, one of the most creative CFs in the league relative to time on the ball and for one of the weakest teams in the division.
Hardie and Ennis rank highly in a number of areas. Whilst Ennis is more clinical, Hardie is better in the air. Both are out of contract but have been offered new deals by Plymouth so unlikely to move on.

It's unlikely Warne wants Cashin at the heart of the defence. Evidence points towards him wanting an experienced and commanding leader there. Roberts doesn't get in the side ahead of Cashin at LCB.
With 3/5 at the back, wing backs need to be a key source of chance creation. This is the main area Roberts needs to improve on. He averaged less than 1 key pass per 90 whilst playing LB, with his only assist coming in the game vs Bristol in October. He also only scored 1 goal from LB. In my opinion, he wouldn't be a starter at LWB next season.
