I might be wrong but I don't really know how exactly he fits the profile. What does he offer that we don't have?

Forgive me if I'm cynical but is this just another massive bloke so we can try to score from as many corners as possible? Is that really the best we can do?

4 at the back, we have Cashin, Bradley and Forsyth for the LCB spot, but only Nelson (and Rooney) for the RCB spot, although Forsyth is decent short term cover. Ideally, we want a RCB who has a bit of pace to cover for either Cashin who will commit to challenges early on, or Bradley who lacks pace himself.

For 3 at the back... Cashin, given his age and ability is the first CB to slot into place (LCB). Nelson has the skillset to play either CB or RCB depending on who else will be in the back 3. If Nelson is to play RCB, we want a CB who has a bit of pace to cover for Cashin, but they also have to be dominant in the air. Other attributes are ideal, but low priority, long range passing arguably next on the list. Or, we want a RCB who is good on the ball (forward passes, dribbling out from the back, pinging Csshin-esqe balls out to the wing all being desirable skills), but also solid in 1v1 battles. Being strong in the air would also be ideal, but not required. A threat in yhe opposition box would also be preferred.

Cardiff have had a bad start to the season and are bottom of the league . They are hoping to turn the tide by signing defender Will Fish . Man Utd dangled the bait and he was snapped up for £2 million .

On the ball he's pretty much what you'd want from a sided CB, although still room for quite a bit of improvement. Defensively he's poor - very weak in the air, and very weak in 1v1s

    Darren Robinson.

    Can play RB, DM, CB...

Does the job and baffled why we'd loan him with such few numbers and nobody to come in.

Wilson, Ward, Nyambe and even Rooney ahead of his at RB/RWB

Nelson, Cashin, Bradley, Forsyth, Nyambe, Rooney ahead of him at CB

Ozoh, Osborn, Adams, Goudmijn and LThompson ahead of him at DM/CM

His game time would be exceptionally limited, so a loan is the best thing for his development, rather than letting him stagnate in the U21s for a 4th season.

Who would you gamble on GoC? Maybe we'll see them play tomorrow thanks to RamsTV showing U21s, hurrah! 🙂

I don't think anyone other that DBrown is ready to have a serious impact on the first team. A small few will be rewarded for their performances in cup competitions and/or after safety is confirmed.

I've named a few players who I consider the brightest prospects in another post somewhere.

Irrelevant, when Rooney and to an extent Cocu, could bring in a half decent talent whilst a much more restraint budget than Warne has got.

Allsop, Plange, Ebiowei, Morrison, Jags, Steerman, Bryne, Robinson Kazim...

There's no excuse for Warne being in a much better position than Cocu and Rooney found themselves in.

You've named 3 academy players (Plange, Ebiowei and DRobinson), with Plange even playing for our U18s the season before (8 games between March and May)

Byrne was signed in 2020 for a nominal fee, but wages believed to be above £10k. Kazim signing a couple months after the window ended, as a free agent because we failed to sign someone better during the transfer window.

No one else seemed to want Allsop, Morrison, Jagielka, Stearman until they played for us. They probably wouldn't have accepted our £4.5k cap if they had other offers. Players like that are available now - Liam Cooper being on example.

A friend of mine is a coach at an academy (not Derby) and I was having a conversation with him a few weeks back and said when there's an unbelievable player in an academy do you hear about them? Like Bellingham for example. He said no, but he sees and hears things quite locally.

He said to me one player at Derby he's heard a lot about and seen once is Cruz Allen. Apparently we're expecting big things from him and he's meant to be head and shoulders above.

In regards to a striker, obviously we all know that the market is a joke. Yes we could maybe go foreign and see what's out there, but it comes with risks. I think we rate Brown highly and don't want to block his path into the first team and I also think that we will probably be able to get a better striker on loan than one we can afford.

Say we have £1-£2 million to spend. What kind of striker can we get for that? Not a great one I'd imagine.

We also do not know what Yates is like and how he will fit.

Some people seem to have turned their noses up at Woodrow and Smith. But both of those would get in our side over Collins.

Allen was linked with clubs like Man Utd, Chelsea and Newcastle towards the end of last season. He had 7 goals and 6 assists in 16 U18 games last season. 3 goals in 612 U21 minutes when stepping up. Still only 17 too. A full season at U21 level followed by a couple of loan, then he should be first team ready. Dealing with the physicality would be his main area to work on.

My mate that’s a Leeds fans claiming we’re signing Cooper who was released by the in the summer. Reckons he’s been training with us. I’ve not trawled through to see if it’s been mentioned here before.

A few have mentioned she's training with us. We're probably waiting until the end of the window to offer him  contract based on budget remaining and what type of CB we manage to sign.

The Academy cupboard was stripped bare when we were in Admin. The club had to start from scratch again. We now have Darren Robinson, Dajaune Brown and Cruz Allen all who look like they will be able to make the step up either this or next season.

You mention other Academies. They didn't have its best players sold off in Admin to keep the club alive. They didn't then have to release more young players as we weren't allowed to offer them new contracts. Now, think about what happened and then try to work out why the Academy isn't churning out players on the conveyor belt and we'll only really start to see more players possibly coming on from next season.

DRobinson, Brown and Allen were all at the club when we went into admin.

A large number of academy graduates left either during or after admin - Festy, Buchanan, Ebiowei, Williams and Kellyman. Arguably, Knight and Bird would still be with us now if not for admin (due to dropping to L1). Once you add Cashin, LThompson and DBrown (and Sibley) to that list, we could have had almost half a squad with Championship quality players (a couple being fringe player).

Looking on, there are many players I would be looking to get in the first team squad within the next 4 years (obviously some sooner than others)

We could have Evans or JThompson as 3rd choice GKs, but both would benefit massively by having loans out for the next 2 seasons to learn their trade playing in teams where their performances seriously matter. For example, JThompson is a fantastic shot stopper and is very good at playing out from the back, but needs to learn when to go long - he won't be forgiven for passing to an opposition attacker in acres of space.

In defence, I like Cox as an overlapping LCB and I think he'd be perfect in a 3 at the back system. Good in the air, a solid tackler, but also good dribbling out on the ball. I think he had a few injury niggles last season, and is seemingly being managed carefully so far this season. KRobinson, has a Bird-like head on his shoulders. Whilst I don't think he's as physically or technically as good as Cox, a youngsters mentality is just as important. Being capped twice for England U19, they obviously see some potential in him too. At LB, there's Gill, who I hope can make the U21 position his own this season whislt still being a 2nd year scholar. He's a very talented defender, but needs to work on his end product. He'd probably need to become an LCB in a 3 at the back system.

In midfield, Stepien-Iwumene made an impression during pre-season and is arguably the most 'first team ready', but I back a lot of out home grown talent to have a higher ceiling. DRobinson being the closest to the first team (in my opinion being a mid table L2 CM), but Hawkins is another. He's come through as a Bird type DM. I stated last season that he needed to work on his end product, and I think he responded with something like 3 assists and a goal in his next 5 games. He's looked out of place when playing LB, so we need to keep him in the CM position as much as possible. McAndrew could play in any position he wanted as he has a lot of very good attributes. However, he needs to develop an arrogance to his game to match his talent. Settling on a favoured position will allow him to develop his weaknesses too.

Allen seems to be shifted to the wing. He's a very creative player and takes good set pieces. Davidson is another promising winger, but has struggled with injuries for the last 2 seasons.

DBrown is well known at CF by this point. I'd consider him to be a top end L1 starter currnetly (or Championship squad player). I think he'd just missing a bit of self-belief  with couple of goalbeing a catalyst to being a Championship starter. Wheeldon has a fantastic work rate and is versatile (can also play on the wings or AM) - probably end up being a support striker to create space for a striker partner. Ogontulu was used in a rotation with Wheeldon last season, but had a decent G/A return rate. This season, I was to see him bagging 30+ goals/assists and force his way into the U21.

Second, DC has a difficult balancing act.  He loves Derby, but he is legally and morally obliged not to piss away the millions that his Dad secured for future generations.

The owner of our club is Clowes Developments, not Clowes. They are owned by The Clowes Trust.

CD/TCT will be taking into account the net cost of owning the club, rather than the rather than the P/L at the bottom of the club's balance sheet. For example, after accounting for corporation tax, an £8m club loss, is only an £6m cost to the parent company (due to them paying less tax on a smaller profit).

I'd expect Clowes to gave agreed a figure that that be used (lost) along with other CD/TCT directors.

  10. Exceptional in his 1v1 duels, wins a lot in the air, but like Cashin, doesn't win a high percentage of them. A high number of forward passes and dribbles per game also suggest he'd be a RCB signing, with Nelson moving into the middle.

The main part of his game needing improvement as a sided CB is his long balls

But he left by his own choice having been offered a new contract. He never convinced or was consistent in his presumably preferred role further up the pitch, when he would have one good game but then disappeared thereafter.

After his breakthrough season in 19/20, where he had 2 runs of 3 games at CM/AM (resulting in 4 goals and 2 assists), he didn't get back to back starts in that position again until 22/23. Who was the manager during that spell?

In 22/23, he had 3 sets of 2 back to back games (2 goals), with another spell at the end of the season as a one of two 10s (essentially used as a winger).

In 23/24, he had 2 more spells of 2 games at AM. This time he had 1 goal and 1 assist, but pulled off at half time in the second game of both of those.

In summary, the longest spell he had a AM under any manager was just 3 games. That's never enough to allow a young player to develop consistency.

  12. No doubt a few first teamers needing minutes started - such as LThompson, Ward and Washington.

Still quite a few with first team experience in that Preston side, so we did well to keep the cleansheet. Club record signing costing £2.2m started upfront, with a £1.8m left winger also starting.

  13. After a tiring game, we're fortunate ti have a week to rest and recover. Cashin out due to concussion. Wilson should be fit enough to start given the 1 week gap. I don't think you can drop Vickers after that last performance, so Zetterstrom waits for now. Yates to come straight into the side.

    Vickers

    Wilson   Nelson   Bradley   Elder

    Ozoh

    Goudmijn   Osborn

    Jackson   Yates   Mendez-Laing

Subs: Zetterstrom, Nyambe, Forsyth, LThompson, Adams, Ward, Barkhuizen, Collins, DBrown
