AndyinLiverpool reacted to Anag Ram in Sheffield United after Coutts and Freeman
We're going to have to get rid of these types of players if we are to forge ahead. Today's team is tomorrow's bench. Coutts is a good player but we managed without him for long enough.
We still need a DM and a FB. We could offload Dawkins and Ward too and get a nippy forward. It's not that these players aren't good, it's just progress.

    Sorry but that's just wrong.

It has to be deliberate in the opinion of the referee. It says so in the laws of the game.

It is not enough for the ball to strike the arm.

The guidance given to referees in the official FIFA Laws of the Game says:

The referee must take the following into consideration:
the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement
The referee considers the above but it is not enough even for the hand to move towards the ball. That in itself is not an indication that the handball is deliberate.

The question the referee will ask himself is not 'Did the ball hit his arm?' but 'Did the player deliberately divert the ball with his arm?' If he cannot in his own mind answer 'yes' to that, he cannot give a penalty.

Most co-comentators and alleged experts either do not know the laws of the game or wilfully misrepresent them for their own purposes. I suspect that most players have never read them.

I agree. It was really stupid to have Eustace breaking up Ipswich's play all through the second half. If he'd brought Bryson on at half time, I'm sure Derby could have come away with all three points.

Eustace knew what he was doing from start to finish (finish being his second yellow). I have a mate who supports Ipswich who said a few weeks back that if he could take one player from our squad, it would be John Eustace, because all sides who get promoted have a player like him in the squad. Since he's come back into the side, that hasn't sounded like such a silly thing to say. One of the reasons why Hughes looked so good today - aside from his individual brilliance - is that Eustace made sure all the physical attention was on him.

Shame to have him out for the Forest match, but I think Mascarell will do well in that game anyway. Pearce will be spending his week telling his players to be brave and to show some passion rather than doing any homework on us, so I doubt his weaknesses will be exploited.

Christie has had a bit of criticism on here, some of which is unfair. He won't have many tougher games this season. On the whole, we defended incredibly well and refused to let Ipswich play to their strengths.

We haven't seen that sort of performance since QPR at home last season.
