The injuries to Hughes and Bryson were unlucky, but the response to them was idiotic.  If 2 of your best players get injured, you don't more-or-less break your transfer record twice to sign replacements, especially if they can't do the same job.  We should have gone and got 2 loans in.  Clement supposedly had connections at Real Madrid, Chelsea etc, so just go to them and say we've got 2 guaranteed spots in our midfield free for the season, who can we have?  We play decent football, they'll play every week, so they benefit.  We maybe only spend £1m a piece on loan fees instead of the £10m+ we spent on Johnson and Butterfield.  It's win-win for everyone.

An immediate points deduction is the one thing I don't really expect to happen.  I don't think there's any way we submit P&S restatements that has us over the limit.  I think either the numbers are OK (maybe pending a potential agreement with the EFL over some details) and we just submit them, or we insist on using a slightly different non-straight-line method to make the numbers OK, and then fight them on it.  And in that case we're back to square one with charges, hearings and appeals etc.  I don't see us meekly rolling over, submitting accounts with overspending and accepting a deduction.  Certainly not for 6 points anyway. Maybe we do if it's just one or something, but I'm still not convinced on that.
The only other potential route to a deduction I can see is if we don't submit the accounts by the 18th. And even then, I suspect we're back to the DC for another round of hearings as there's no punishment specified for non-compliance in the last set AFAIK.

The EFL issue a strongly worded statement saying how disappointed they are, and that they will be looking to close the “haven’t actually broken any rules” loophole as soon as possible to prevent any more flagrant “going about their business in a perfectly legal way” from naughty old Derby County.
