Quite funny that people come on here criticising people for being a little bit mean about the ‘commentator’, but there are literally 100s of threads that openly abuse the owner, manager and individual players!

I’d be more than happy to see all ‘abusive’ posts removed on the off-chance the individuals mentioned might see them. However, from what I’ve read on this thread, it mostly seems to be reasonable criticism of the persons work (which is in the public eye and thus open to critique).  I don’t know the man personally (I walked past him on the Cromford Canal path a few weeks ago but doubt that makes us friends) so would never comment on his personality. He might be a lovely man off air. However, it is fair to say that I find his ‘commentary’ excruciating.  That isn’t being abusive, it is merely a ‘review’ (much as I might a tv show or film). If I don’t like a tv show, I don’t watch it. As it is, I can’t listen to RD.

I really don’t know where people get this ‘passion’ thing from. I assume it is from people who equate endless moaning and negativity as passion (perhaps reflecting and rationalising their own way of supporting the club?). Is it the shouting that equates to passion? Not for me. Noise is just noise.  Is it, as other people say, the way that every time the ball is in our half, the inflection in his voice makes you assume they’re about to score? I must admit that I often have the same feelings, but it isn’t passion.
My Dad can no longer go to the games due to age. However, he listens to RD and I can honestly say that when we talk about the matches, it’s like we were watching two different games. If the commentary gives you the wrong impression of what has happened, then it isn’t good commentary. But then, perhaps I’m not passionate enough?

You mean your not inspired by 5 minutes of apoplectic rage about an opposition throw in on the half way line, followed by a further minutes about reffing some U12s team and the 15.30 train from Hull to Filey appearing in the distance followed by a couple of Canadian Geese.

    I’ve said before on here - a good commentator should paint a picture of what’s happening - Dawes couldn’t paint a fence…..

I want to know what is happening not what crap he thinks about the game or the club. It's not the Ed Dawes show but he thinks it is. He's boring with it too.

What a difference this fella makes to listening on the radio.
Finally, a commentary that provides a decent picture in your mind of where the ball is on the pitch, what the level of threat is at that moment, and doesn't leave you fearing every single moment your team isn't in possession.
Vast improvement on Ed Dawes, imo.

I think that if you look at the personal details of their players, a majority are over 6 foot, with 4 or 5 of them being in excess of 6ft 3in. It was quite intimidating watching the players marking each other at corners and free kicks. It seemed that every one of the Derby players was marking a player much taller than he was. But credit to our lads, they handled it magnificently.
As a supporter and for anyone with knowledge of football and/or physics, it was obvious that Boro's strengths were going to be from free kicks and corners. Surprise, surprise, they went down like ninepins within 40 yards from goal and that idiot of a ref and his assistant bought every one of them. It was telling that Boro got so many yellow cards, all from cynical fouls which were the only ones the ref felt obliged to give to us.
Typical, nasty anti football from a Warnock side.

It wasn't so much booing against him, it was against the Boro team who had essentially decided that they were going to force him to do it by stopping playing, waving their arms in the air. I understand why he did it but what he should have done is played it straight through to Baldock or someone while the Boro team were moaning and we go one up.
Unless the ref stops the game or there is something immediately and obviously something wrong that a player can see, play on!

After the first twenty minutes I thought we’re going to struggle here. Only Shinnie seemed to fancy a challenge against Ikpeazu and others looked intimidated by Middlesbrough’s physical players. Few looked like they really wanted the ball and when we got it we looked hurried.

But we gutsed it out and grew in confidence on the ball. I felt sorry for Baldock who had to come deeper and deeper to get the ball. He had no chance against McNair and Fry and whilst we played some nice stuff, it was difficult to see where goals would come from. I couldn’t understand why we persisted in launching balls into the box where Boro dominated.
Dijksteel looked sharp for them and I was pleased to get to half time at nil nil even though we had more of the ball.
It didn’t get any easier second half. Our midfield three all play deep and that invites pressure. Sibley, Jozwiak and Baldock couldn’t keep the ball long enough and it became a rearguard action.
Yet still we managed two reasonable chances. Watson had the chance to be a hero but snatched at his volley. Stretton cleverly manufactured a volley but dragged it wide.
Overall, I was pleased with the effort and togetherness but we will need different forwards if we are to progress.
Neat football is pointless without players who can take chances.
It was great to be back at Pride Park, even if the fans behind me gave me a headache with their tirade against the officials!

I didn't find it turgid at all (except when Boro had the ball), I thought we played some attractive and incisive football, particularly first half, but I'll accept it won't go down as a classic.

What a great afternoon it was today at PP
So proud of the whole crowd who were obviously also delighted to be there
And also a word for the Boro fans - every one of them were clapping the video announcement of the passing of our oldest supporter, pre match . Very well done to them .
And thank goodness their young fan, who was taken out around half time, is now ok - it looked truly horrible
Thats my last word of thanks to Middlesborough !

What a truly dreadful and appalling team. All down to their manager of course. Anti-football at its worst. No wonder young people are finding other activities to focus on.

As for us - marvellous , and unlucky not to win in my opinion (although I am bias of course). Every one of them was magnificent today.

    Special words to :
Roos - his saves are winning us points now
Byrne - at half time it looked like he would have to be taken off, such was his litany of calamities. Responded absolutely fantastically in the second half
Joz - really put in a shift (as they say !) and seemed really up for it today. As long as you dont need a header, just blast it at his body and he will control it in a nanosecond
Davies and Jag - the Masters
Stretton - see Joz comments above. Nearly got us a winner when it looked physically impossible to shoot
    The Crowd - wow !
