Am I allowed to believe both that Mel Morris is ultimately to blame for taking us into administration, that he presumably signed off on our approach to finances and accounting which got us into trouble and if he hadn’t spent big sums of cash at the behest of his managers (ie not supported them) then we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in… AND… that the EFL have acted dishonesty, acted retrospectively against all normal rules of natural justice, have sought to block or stymie every single attempt for us to get out of the mess and place additional barriers in our way, have maliciously not used any discretion in how they have interpreted the rules or punishment and are one gigantic pile of excrement?
I mean, there’s plenty of blame to go around, I don’t think we need to be polarised about it or ‘take sides’.

I think that most fans just assumed that he could afford to spend the money. They go along to support their team and assume that those in charge of the finances are doing the job they are paid to do. It's not up to the fans to dissect every spend to make sure we can afford it. Fans are not accountants. Yes, of course they were happy that Mel was spending money on good players but I doubt that they knew how this would come back to bite us in the future. It is not the fans fault. I agree, absolute BS.

    Mods!
I think we need a poll on who is really to blame for DCFC's current prediciment!
    a) Mel Morris
    b) @Curtains
    c) All the fans
    d) Richard Keogh
I mean, we all know the real answer (it's d) but it'd be fun to see the results.

For me it's a case of the administrators agreeing for the EFL to remove a tooth rather than let it fester and cause any more pain.
The hope being the pain will stop and we can carry on as normal.
A very sorry state of affairs all round.

You are correct, it was not a minor offence, it was no offence at all, as concluded by the IDC.
The important thing you are omitting is that we tried to circumvent FFP but fully within the rules.
If you are still arguing that the stadium valuation was an inflated figure I'm guessing that you have not followed the case too closely.
Maybe the EFL should start challenging the sales values of players? I can think if plenty that have been sold at inflated values.
Our financial situation is in no way down to the EFL but the fact that we have found ourselves with our hands tied behind our backs for nearly 2 years (let that timescale sink in) lays fully at their door.
We've basically been stopped from operating normally and put in the position of not being allowed access to a Covid loan purely on the basis of unfounded alllegations from other clubs.

Given that we (think) we know that the EFL signed off our accounts for years before identifying the issue and, effectively, retrospectively punishing us (and the consequences of this resubmitting accounts that have put us in the ?), I’m amazed we/the administrators haven’t sought to take the EFL to court ourselves.  I just cannot see how the EFL’s position has been on any way in the interests of natural justice. This is particularly the case, when you think about the ridiculous cases Boro and Wycombe are trying on.
I’m like a dog with a bone on this, but I also still fail to see why the EFL are so intent on destroying the club. There must have been ways out for them which would have seen them able to punish us and still save safe with the other clubs (eg leaving it at the 100,000 fine, not requiring updated accounts and just being told not to do it again… or something… there must have been scope for leniency and discretion, especially with things like COVID.). Just a massive group of jobsworths.
Yes, Mel needs to take the lion’s share of the blame for all this as he is ultimately responsible, but the EFL have been deplorable in my humble opinion.
Oh well. Futile rage it is then!

There’s not a lot we can do about it, so is grasping for any crumb of comfort better than getting angry? TBF l, I’m sure deep down many of us are still secretly hoping we’ll find a way out of this, but I’m sure the fury will come once it’s a mathematical certainty, rather than likelihood.

I'll take a consistent run on 3pm Saturday games, with no international breaks. It's not going to feel glamorous, far from it, but it is what you make it. The possibility of new away grounds is exciting to me. I'm genuinely looking forward to a bit of a change.
Football is football at the end of the day. We've been a low scoring, largely dull side under a transfer embargo for the past two seasons. I couldn't care less about being one step further from a division I haven't seen since I was a teenager. If all I was interested in was the Premier League, I'd travel 30 minutes in the other direction and watch Leicester.

Anyone believing that they can achieve some sort of beast-level catharsis by making others as miserable as they feel is in for a nasty shock. Writing down one's reasons for feeling sad or anxious, or annotating those feelings, is a million miles away from venting one's spleen at a complete stranger via social media.
On thread, as regards the additional 9 point deduction, if it's true, there ought to be some form of enquiry into how exactly this is known by a journalist before the EFL have formally laid out the specifics of the charges brought and the penalties attached to them. It stinks to the high heavens and speaks to the incredibly divisive way they have sought to undermine the club at every juncture. After two years of embargos, with all the issues such sanctions bring, we now find ourselves looking at a 21 point sanction on top and for what? For using ERV and not straight line amortisation policies!
If these reports are true, then I can imagine precisely the line they have adopted in their 'negotiations; challenge either or both charges and we'll seek to expel you from the league. If this is correct then it's small wonder that the talks were 'adjourned' and even less surprising that Mel felt he had to walk away. So much for the 'integrity of the league'. No question, we've made errors of judgement, but has any club ever been faced with such a heavy price to pay for what was, compared to other clubs' transgressions, a relatively minor offence?
