Were is your evidence that being a 'middling' club and waiting (how long for?!) is any less risky than looking for investment for the Club? Typical reply of 'throw everything up in the air' to make it seem that there's only ever one result from looking for more money! 😄

Got to love the Goons. Born the same year and often run listening to The Goons & Navy Lark etc. Can be sometimes seen running the trails laughing to myself.

bcnram reacted to BramcoteRam84 in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
As a club taking into account our history, punching above our weight would be top 10 in the premier league, the minimum we should be is a top 8 championship side anything lower than that then we’re underachieving. Last season (22/23) finishing 7th in L1 was the joint worst in our entire history.
However given we’re 2 years on from near oblivion, and the distribution of finances in football over the past 5-8 years especially, in our current state to be anywhere near the playoffs would be punching above our weight.
I’ve been fortunate to see Derby as a top 10 premier league club beating some of the big boys, but have to face the possibility we’ll never get back there. To get back to the premier league alone will be tough. And to survive you need to spend £150m!! It’s bonkers.
The premier league has changed football in this country for the worse, it’s almost a super league in itself and I think unless a regulator gets hold of it there will soon be a clamour for it to become a closed shop and the concern is some foreigners or self interested clubs who know nothing about the history of football in this country will decide 1 or 2 clubs from the East Mids is enough for the top table (bit like what Derbyshire is facing in cricket) and that would be devastating. I think I’d turn my back on all football if that happened.
We couldn’t have picked a worse decade to be s***.

    Anyway,
The atmosphere at Pride Park with 30k in will never be as good as the Baseball ground with 15k, no matter how much co-ordination is done through social media and all the waving of  flanges and scraves, surfing the big flags before the game, our own song and poem, it will never beat the Popside/Columbo raw chanting from 30 years+ ago (before all seater stadium...)

We'd be looking at a third season in League One if Clowes didn't swap Rosenior for Warne.

How many Premier League clubs sign a player after having a good season in Non League?
In my opinion we should be looking at Brown as one for the future. The 'future' may come as soon as the second half of this season or it may come in a year or twos time. What we can all agree on by reading the comments on him, is that he will play a part in the clubs first team at some point or other.
Having watched quite a bit of National league football this year, as my home town team have been playing in it, we need to temper our expectations of his current ability. I'm not denying that he has had a fantastic half season at Gateshead. But the standard of defending at NL level is terrible. Defenders are out of position far more than they were in League 1 last year. Defenders lose their players far more than they did in League 1. Defenders are typically slower and don't have the defending IQ to counteract it.

I really wouldn't want stands named after ex players/managers - I just hate all that living in the past.

I assume we had no Japanese Rams at the game either, looking at the state of the pitch by the end.  What is it with scummy litter louts?  🤬

The decision should only be overturned if it is ' a clear and obvious mistake'. The ref in front of the screen only has to take a look and decide that is too close to call so the goal stands.

If it's not an obvious howler, the original decision stands, and we live with it.
Referee errors are just part of the game. Over the last 150 odd years there will have been thousands of wrong calls, but that's still better than the current system that's sucking all the joy from the game.

The only opinion that would matter would be the ref's, just as it always used to be. But now he would have the opportunity to review his desicion to help eliminate glaring errors.

Whatever Clowes has done, and we're eternally grateful for what that, the appointment of Warne felt strange but it's looking to be awful. While tonight was grim, it wasn't particularly out of character or surprising, it was utterly predictable. Promotion or not, he's not the future
