Sorry, what 'talent' has Maguire proven? What goalscoring form has Maguire ever shown?

He got 3 in 11 for Portsmouth. He came into a poor side and didn't even look the best in a bad bunch. He scored a couple of good goals, but so did Theo, Savies, Bryson...a few good goals does not a good striker make.

On top of that, we're only gonna sell him at the right price and that was said before the Savies issue came to light. Clough said we would look at playing him.

I don't see why we're making such a fuss over a player that has shown so little. What is it about this guy that gave him a right to start a game for us? What incredible talent are we trying to sell here?

I think the fuss is that at 475,000 (as reported in DET today) that makes him about the 3rd or 4th most expensive signing in terms of transfer (tribunal) fee that Clough has paid out. He hasn't looked that much worse than Tyson or quite a few others and yet seems surplus to requirements. In Nigel's (bugger all money) world he can't really afford many of these financial failures and thus a lot of folk don't understand why Maguire really does not seem to have been given the same opportunity as say Tyson...

You only have to watch him for 5 minutes to tell he's got a bit about him, things that Theo and Tyson struggle with, like ball control and a first touch.

He came into a **** Portsmouth side that could barely field a side and got good reviews from their fans, what more did you expect from him? Considering he was playing out wide for them at time, i wouldnt bother looking at his goal scoring record.

People arent really saying that he's this great player who should be starting every game. Just that some players that have been given chances ahead of him havent done much.

SHEFFIELD Wednesday are still believed to be interested in signing Derby County forward Chris Maguire.

The Owls have already had two bids turned down for the Scotland international – but are understood not to have given up in their pursuit of the 23-year-old.

Maguire has been unable to establish himself in the Derby side since joining the club from Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen last summer.

He made only eight first-team appearances for the Rams – and only three starts – during the 2011-12 season, scoring two goals.

Maguire was eventually sent out on loan in March to Portsmouth, where he scored three times in 11 games for the south coast club.

He is one of the players Rams manager Nigel Clough says he would consider selling, if the price was right.

Derby had to pay around £470,000 compensation for Maguire – and will be looking to recoup as much of that as possible.

However, the first two offers from Wednesday did not match the Rams' valuation of the player.

Clough is also willing to listen to offers for James Bailey, Miles Addison, Lee Croft.

Striker Steve Davies has also been made available for transfer after turning down the offer of a new deal.
