Understand, yet at least make the songs relevant to the people playing or even the sport itself. Yaya and Kolo Toure? Bit weird.

Like all the Derby fans singing about Forest when they're two divisions away?

At least it's the same sport and a rivalry, is there a connection between the Toure brothers and darts that I'm missing here?

It’s the fact it’s easy to join in on, pretty inoffensive and there’s actions to it to make everyone stand up.

Pathetic and embarrassing, is what it is.

Especially when the explanation / justification for it is basically that it's suitable for 4 year olds.

No, you're not tbf. But they also do 'stand up if you love the darts' and 'boring, boring tables' as well so you always know you've got another two chants to go before it comes around again.

This is my favourite darts moment of all time.

Mrs FBM loves the darts.  I can take it or leave but it is a really good night with a cracking atmosphere.  First time we went was to Dublin about 8 or 9 years ago.  We were on a table and ended up sitting next to a fellow Ram.

I’ve watched more of this tournament than any other.  It’s been one of the most interesting, not just because of Luke Littler but a few of the bigger and established names went out fairly early on.  Littler looks so natural and composed.  Let’s hope he has good people around him who give him good advice and look after him.

Guys. I’ll be out with him, just not in the Brunny

Maybe, but at least you're not on a darts thread calling darts fans 'embarrassing, pathetic, t****'. I think that's the point @Srg is probably making.

For balance, I don't really get the Yaya / Kolo references either, but unless I'm missing something, it's just folk having a few beers and being silly and it's hurting absolutely no one. Let's have it straight here, demeaning folk for something so insignificant is not a great look in any instance, but when you consider some of the stuff us Rams fans chant, you'll need to forgive me if I say it seems properly one-eyed.

I’m just as critical when it comes to songs like the Stan Collymore one and the size of NML’s wang. Both of which are embarrassing.

I don’t see that as “demeaning” people at all.

As yet, there’s been no real explanation for the Yaya/Kolo one other than lads having a laugh, I’m not against fun, just trying to figure out the complete randomness about.

The video Baalocks posted earlier showed the ref trying to settle the crowd before the players played, yet the other night seemed like a free for all with 10 year old football songs.

First time I really watched the Darts due to the potential historic win by a 16 year old, the weird stag do vibe behind 2 blokes with serious money on the line is not something I’ll be investing anymore time into.

Live and let live mate. We're not obliged to have opinions on everything and I think if someone called you pathetic and embarrassing, you might feel differently about whether it's demeaning or not. If that's not the intention of such comments, what exactly is?

Right, and I’m choosing to have an opinion on this as is my right to, likewise you’re not obliged to take notice of my opinions.

In terms of being called pathetic and embarrassing, I can assure you I have had more insults thrown my way than that, I am also a little perplexed why you or anyone on this forum would have taken them so personally.

Unless you were there and singing the Yaya/Kolo chants?

For what it’s worth, after Googling the origins of the chants, not only is this a common discussion and one that clearly irritates the genuine darts fans, not those that just rock up for this event for a piss up.

Imagine being a Golf fan watching all the events all year, the form, appreciation of the skill for the Ryder Cup to be taken over by a stag do singing Steve Bloomers Watching.

I’d say the real golf fans might be a bit pissed off by it all.

Just a snippet from a blog I found on this….

Others watch the darts too

Fortunately, the fans sat near me did at least seem like they were watching like me, albeit a little more vocally. They even chose to cheer Wes Newton instead of Phil Taylor in their match, which is comforting in a way as Wes hasn’t got too much love from many casual darts fans.

Sadly, it seemed that the majority of fans in the arena were only interested in singing the same songs instead of watching the darts and showing all players respect. There were a few unwarranted boos for players, while the usual annoying songs such as the ‘Kolo/Yaya Toure’ one and ‘Boring, Boring Tables’ were belted out.

A lot of fans were singing ‘Marching on Together’, Leeds United’s official club anthem. As a Leeds fan, I was tempted to join in, but didn’t feel right doing it at another sporting venue.

Shouldn't you be asking the person using those terms why THEY have taken the chants so personally? It's not personal for me, I just explained what I thought was @Srg's rationale for posting, now you've decided to take me to task for it. WTAF.

Darts forum for what it’s worth.

From what I can gather, this is Barry Hearn’s work, trying to increase interest by adding an atmosphere and in the process alienating the real darts fans.

When business takes over a sport I guess, feel for the real darts fans here. I know if it came to the snooker and there was a piss up behind the players I wouldn’t be overly impressed.

Not really, as I can see quite clearly the comments were aimed at the crowd, not the members on here.

As for taking you to task, look back at the comments, I don’t recall starting this line of defence, you’ve come at me basically saying live and let live you don’t have to have an opinion appearing to take it personally.

Not sure what side of the bed you have got out of this morning, however I’m happy to continue to voice my opinion on this in this topic whilst agreeing with others that have called this hostile takeover of the sport pathetic and embarrassing in their opinion. As I believe it’s spot on.
