Anti Football bit

why?

the way warne sets us up, we don't want the football.

when we eventually do get it the general pattern of play is to try cross it for someone to head or play for set pieces and long throw ins.

it's not exactly in the spirit of the beautiful game is it? It should require some form of skill to score a goal not just brute force

How can you play the beautiful game trying to get out of Div 1 with crap refs that let cloggers win

The way we want to play football is just far too tactically advanced for these players to grasp before they've played 15-20 games together, obviously.

I remember when Warne was first hired, he stated a desire to simplify the football as one of our previous managers made it too complicated for the players.

Let us not forget that for the first time since Lampard, a manager has had a full preseason with no behind the scenes excuses, no covid cutting it all short. Seeing as we didn't make the play offs we had more prep time than some of the other teams! But yes, clearly a seriously complicated tactical set up...

To answer the original question.

No. Expectation should be top 2. In our owners words our budget is good enough to get us out of this league. We have appointed a promotion expert from this league, who himself saw last season as a failure. If the budget was tighter than believed, we should have been wise and chosen a formation that requires the least investment from what we have. But nevermind.  We are the big fish in this pond.

It goes against 'the true spirit' of the game, the purer aspects, that those of us who appreciate the skill needed to win games believe in. 😉

The Derby way.   That worked well 😂 lol

Try reading the answer, rather than trying to change your question retrospectively!

Hourihane, Smith, Bird, Forsyth, Sibley, Waghorn... all have experience playing in teams who play intricate football.

What Warne really means is HE doesn't know how to play complicated football.

The whole point about getting out this Div is play the Warne way for the Division.    Fancy Dan football won’t work.
That’s why I say expectations are maybe too high for the beautiful game

How many sides get promoted 'playing ugly'?

22/23: Plymouth, Ipswich, Sheff Weds
21/22: Wigan, Rotherham, Sunderland
20/21: Hull, Peterborough, Blackpool
19/20: Coventry, Rotherham, Wycombe
18/19: Luton, Barnsley, Charlton
17/18: Wigan, Blackburn, Rotherham

There's a common theme. The teams playing ugly football return to League 1.

Rotherham didn’t have a Championship budget at the time.
You have to give Warne some credit for his promotions
