Carl Sagan
A piece on Radio 4 earlier today about the Museum of Making in Derby: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00159qd The focus was on the workshops. It sounds worth a visit and even membership if people want to use the workshop facilities. https://www.derbymuseums.org/museum-of-making/ RadioactiveWaste, Miggins, I know nothing and 1 other
Miggins
We live in nearby Belper and have pencilled in a visit sometime early summer. I agree that it sounds well worth a visit. Carl Sagan

If they’ve taken the Action Man driver out of the model of the APT then they're dead to me. Yes - it's been closed for a couple of years and been totally rennovated/changed. Gaspode
Not sure if it's still the case, but when we went last year, we parked in Bold Lane car park. We took the plastic parking card with us to the mueum, they scanned it and we only had to pay £2.50 for all day parking - worth checking if anyone is travelling any distance and has to go via car.... 1of4
Well along with the City of Culture this is another final we have lost. Lets hope it's third time lucky and we are selected as the home for Great British Railways HQ. TigerTedd, Carl Sagan and Crewton
Grimbeard
We won't be. Nobody likes us, everybody hates us. Also, there's a Bristol bloke with a funny name on the selection commitee.
Boycie
It wasn’t us. I can’t believe it was a museum from London that won? Crewton

Viewed cynically, it's a bit of a "right-on" choice and a calculated snub to the Midlands. The MoM "celebrates" the Industrial Revolution which, in some circles, is the root of all current and historic evils and must be denounced at every opportunity. On the other hand, the Hornimann is a pretty unique museum itself, though not easily accessible to visitors from outside Lewisham. I do wonder if getting the award will make much difference to its status. Boycie and GB SPORTS
