Sorry. Any article ranking Derby's best ever managers and with McClaren as the very best isn't worth reading. Rooney 10th, Rowett 6th, and Lampard 5th, Clement 4th, and Wassall 3rd!!!!

  1. Mac 1
  2. Clough
  3. Wassall
  4. Clement
  5. Lampard
  6. Rowett
  7. Mac 2
  8. Mackay
  9. Dwarf
  10. Rooney

Jim Smith, Cox, Burley, Jobey, Methan, McMillan, Storer, Magner and Potter would figure above a number of those. I'd even have Nigel Clough above some based on the circumstances he had to deal with.

Was based on PPG, another random stat to push an article out on.

Next week it will be click here to see who was the best manager EVER according to xG

Ahh! But then it's still missing a number of managers when adjusting for 3 points per win. It appears some are in the wrong order anyway according to Wiki.

  1. Magner
  2. Mac 1
  3. Wassall
  4. Clough
  5. Clement
  6. Potter
  7. Mackay
  8. Rowett
  9. Mac 2

And that right there is why stats never really tell the full story. The measure of a good manager is always their success relative to expectations. While PPG gives a good indication as to which managers won more matches - which is of course the whole point of the game - it doesn’t take into account division or the quality of squad at their disposal. Both need to be considered when assessing a managers performance. PPG probably indicates how enjoyable their tenure was, but it doesn’t mean they’re among our greatest ever managers.

Rubbish!

Considering we've had the World's Best Manager and legends like Mackay, Cox, Smith etc.

Might as well be...

1) Docherty

2) Pearson

3) Addison

etc etc

Best Chairman

Robert  Maxwell

Best signing

1) Derek Hales

2) Ravanelli

Most exciting season ever

2007-08

lies, damn lies and football polls!
