Bob The Badger
Watched the first 4 episodes of Suburraeterna the follow up to the excellent Italian crime drama, Suburra. Crap. Horrible and distracting soundtrack. Odious characters all over acting and clumsy, convoluted script. Very disappointing, made worse by the fact we went from The Sopranos into that steaming pile. Park any cynicism you may have, because this is a genuinely affecting programme which marks Dave Myers recovery from cancer. Think Whitehouse and Mortimer with better food but the same vibe of one mate helping another through a crisis. Life affirming - and that's not a cliché in this case. If a little tarnished by the knoweldge that he is (maybe was) a complete twonk of a bloke on set and in real life. I don't wish him ill but still. Anag Ram
Anyone else finished both series of Kin? Great stuff if you like the threat of violence delivered by a talented cast.

therealhantsram
Just thinking back on the TV I've really enjoyed this year... and thinking about dicthing some of those streaming services Time, Blue Lights and Happy Valley - all BBC. The Last of Us, Poker Face - Sky. Slow Horses, Ted Lasso and Severance - all Apple. Netflix and Disney - Dissapointing. You guys are facing the chop in 24. Bob The Badger
Watched the new Ricky Gervais special last night on Netflix. If I listed my top 20 comedy specials of all time, I think possibly all of his previous ones would be in there. And Animals and Politics would be in the top 3, but this felt like it was rushed at best and a cash grab at worst. The material felt old and rehashed, and the constant need to explain himself (Jimmy Carr has started doing this, so maybe on a deeper level they are fearful of being taken literally) was a bit tiring. There were some funny bits with the cultural appropriation joke very funny and clever, but I'm not sure I need to see him use the handjob action in any more specials. It was very funny the first time and pretty funny the second time, but now it feels/looks more like a metaphor for him milking the Netflix coffers. I still love the guy and will watch his next one because even comedians have bad days at the office. OoooMarkWright

It also seemed like he was using the C bomb to get cheap laughs. He’s not my fave stand up, his TV series work is better, Super Nature was class though. This was an extended, and poorer, version of that.

I had tickets for the Manchester gig, but when somebody offered me £450 for the two, I bit their hand off. I also sold them the tickets. I think it's always funnier at the event because you're in a room with like-minded people all there to laugh. And laughter is contagious. BaaLocks
Enjoyed "Caroline Aherne - Queen Of Comedy". In parts a carbon copy of every other documentary about anyone in the range of the media in the 1990s but, besides that, showed what a wonderful (if also flawed) woman she was. Missed out some big chunks (e g. her marriage to Hooky) but still a good watch. CWC1983 and Premier ram

I was staying with relatives and couldn't record the end. Hooky made some serious allegations about her physically abusing him after she died and I was wondering how they would deal with that. Did they just ignore it?
Eddie
Not watched any telly since the 23rd December - not even The Rams. Will probably get the ball rolling with Doctor Who later.

Did they just ignore it? They didn't mention Hooky once and give a very light reference to her romantic life full stop. They also don't mention that she had a big fall out with Craig Cash and that's why he went off and did Early Doors. To be fair, it's a celebration of her comedy as opposed to being a critique of her life - there's enough in there to have you realize she was quite manic but it isn't really the place to go exposing her darker side (of which there was one, no doubt). Can’t help but think that was the sort of show the beeb used to do. If it did now there would be 15 mins of warnings and disclaimers. All Mankind on apple is very watchable probably peaking with the moon base series Anag Ram

I can't stand Jack Lowden. 4 episodes into Kin and really starting to like it. Loved the pub shooting scene, it was like it had come straight out of The Sopranos. Comrade 86
Just finished Slow Horses 3. Won't say too much as others have yet to see it, though in one major regard, it's nothing like the previous seasons. Did enjoy it though, but then I think Jackson Lamb might be one of the greatest characters ever created for TV, played by one of our greatest actors.
