The EFL has successfully concluded negotiations with Sky Sports for live domestic broadcasting rights in a deal that will run for a further five seasons from 2019/20.

The new agreement, worth £600m, represents a 36% year-on-year increase on the current arrangement and will continue to see Sky Sports exclusively broadcast the Sky Bet EFL, Carabao Cup, Checkatrade Trophy and Sky Bet Play-Offs live through until May 2024. 
 
This arrangement has been finalised following an open tender process that was designed to maximise both the financial return and exposure for all 72 member Clubs, the EFL and its competitions. 
 
Under the new agreement, Sky Sports in each season from 2019/20 will broadcast:
 
· A maximum of 150 exclusive Sky Bet EFL League matches, which include:
· 16 Sky Bet Championship games on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings;
· A minimum of 20 Sky Bet League One and League Two matches;
· The 15 Sky Bet EFL Play-Off matches including all three Finals; 
· 15 matches from the Carabao Cup including the Final;
· The Semi-Final and Final of the Checkatrade Trophy. 

In addition, and in what is another first for English football, the EFL will be offering its Clubs the opportunity to live-stream in the UK and Ireland any league match via their respective iFollow (or equivalent) service that takes place outside the blocked hours of 14.45-17.15 on Saturday afternoons and that is not broadcast live on Sky Sports.  Sky Sports will have the right to stream the same Championship fixtures to subscribers across their interactive and digital services.

Doubt we'll go down 3 times by then.

Still can't stream 3pm Saturday KO matched in the UK.

 

I wonder what the rules are - or will be - about kick off times? Say we wanted to play outside the blocked times so that we could stream the matches?

Note too that Sky will be able to stream the same matches. Effectively that will put them in direct competition with us for the same matches. It also means they can show any and every EFL game live, outside the blocked hours.

It's a rule that's not bound by law, only The FA, FL and PL.

So why is it still adhered to and why does it affect La Liga on tele as well?!

Weekdays away at Plymouth seems ok then !

Might be an agreement to price match, otherwise Sky could just undercut services like RamsTV which would be a real kick in the balls for the club after all the work they've put in.

Be interesting to see what comes of it, the pricing structure, will it be a one camera angle share with iFollow, or increase the number of cameras and throw in commentary. They have people at the ground covering the game already. 

I bet more games will be encouraged to be played on Saturday afternoons.

2020 ? we'll be watching the rams on BT's 4k hdr champions league coverage.

There are other matches moved at the polices request that aren't shown on TV some Derby Forest matches recently.  Also Boxing Day doesn't always fall on a Saturday we play on Good Friday sometimes I go to most matches Saturday afternoon it's the midweek away matches that are difficult to get to.

simply, Sky will cater for a nation (and beyond) RamsTV will cater for Rams fans (and their direct opponent on any given fixture). Sky cannot stream 30 matches at the same time on a Tuesday night.

Given that, as it stands, the conditions behind the games that RamsTV and iFollow can stream are nigh on identical -  it would suggest to me that whatever offer the EFL gets for iFollow, will be available to RamsTV.

The only difference between the products, in League terms anyway, is that RamsTV have more cameras at Pride Park. That won't change. 

The only thing that will change is that UK fans will be able to stream it, instead of just international fans. It's a permissions problem, not a technical one.

Why not?

No different technically to offering movies etc on demand, if they have access to the streams from the EFL. 

Could be a selling point too, choose 1 clubs games free as part of your normal subscription.

Plenty of people don't have SKY Sports and will use Rams TV.

I would imagine, and this is a finger-in-the-air type statement, but the cost of initial set-up, for something they don't even provide to PL clubs, wouldn't be cheap enough to limit the risk if not enough people subscribe. For me, to add it to my Sky package, I would expect HD and decent commentary. Sky would know that it perhaps wouldn't beat the Champions League, in UHD in the ratings, if customers had the choice. As I say, guessing. Movies on demand are different, they are not live events, there is not as much risk.
