I have to laugh at these comments about his Mrs is going to hate Millwall. There’s a ton of surrounding areas to choose from that would be suitable for overpaid footballers and their wags. Funnily enough you don’t have to live within 2 miles of the ground to play for someone!

I wouldn’t be surprised if they make the move permanently they’ll find somewhere out in Surrey or Kent, maybe even Essex to move into. For now they’ll likely find a hotel on the edge of town. Probably not a travelodge either.

I'll get Phil and Kirsty onto it right away.

Good luck to Shackell. Both he and Derby need to move on.

  • Alex  Pearce captained Reading to promotion at centre half.
  • Chris Baird captained Northern Ireland at centre half.
  • Andre Wisdom captained England U21 at centre half.
  • Tom Huddlestone has played as a Premier League centre half (maybe captain as well!).
  • Clough used Craig Forsyth as an emergency centre half.

So yes we have plenty of cover behind the first-choice pairing.

Thanks Carl, you've allayed my concerns to a degree. But it still only leaves us with one specialist in that position. I guess I always liked the idea of having Shackell around. Of the above options...Baird gives me the most confidence.

Greenwich and Blackheath spring to mind. Probably the best two areas south of the river.

Telling the manager to ‘**** off’ when asked to applaud the fans is a sensible and constructive response to losing a three goal lead?

Easy for you to say. Were you playing that day? You’ve grinded to get a good lead away from home, only for the manager to pull off players you need to protect the deserved lead. His heart was in the game, and the manager did all that was in his power to weaken our chance at securing the points. You felt that the shaming of him at the time was typical: suck the passion out of someone who was a winner and support the loser because his act was unsavoury. Wassall should have applauded his anger.  That episode surely had an adverse effect on Shackell: that and Clement not making him captain when he arrived: in his mind, he cared too much ... he became connected to the cause. That was not rewarded.

And he wasn’t mad because he’d been subbed off like most players angry at managers. He had cause. We were all dumbfounded at the changes.

Not to mention Putney, Clapham, Brixton and Peckham. Plenty to explore south of the river.

Brixton may have changed a lot in the past 5 years, but somehow I still can’t see Mrs Shackell buying her fruit and veg and upgrading to the latest iPhone down Electric Avenue!

You need to get yourself down to Brixton Village – some cracking eateries there. And some top bars to boot.

If Shackell goes along with Rawson I'd assume we have another CB to come in for the U23s and emergency 1st team cover

Would be crazy to let a very good backup centre half go, only to buy another, when we are trying to reduce squad size. As E4E says, we have perfectly good cover in Wisdom to go with Pearce. Hanson came through the junior ranks in that position and in a short-term emergency, Fozzy or Huddlestone could also play there.

But ideally Shackell shouldn't go to a rival. Instead he should go to a Premier team as backup, or a Championship team to help them take points off our rivals.

We just signed a defender for the U23 as I predicted...just saying

My missus lived there a few years back. The first Honest Burger was there (and the best one, imho). Also remember you could get some decent samosas from a place called Elephant(?), and a Dime Bar cheesecake from another place. Long live gentrification.

Mind you, still got mugged outside her flat once!  I’ve heard things have changed since. Something about a champagne and cheese shop? Bumbaclart!

Good news and a good shout but I'd say this particular 18 year old is at least 8th in line to a first team centre half spot this season. If he plays we're probably in trouble, but I'm hoping to see him as a dominant presence in the U23s for the rest of the campaign.

There's been a lot of outrage in local press about the gentification in Brixton. A few well-known places have been forced to shut down due to Starbucks (and similar types) moving in and raising rents.

If you're even back down there, I can highly recommend this bar for cocktails: http://www.sevenatbrixton.com/. Very reasonable too for London.

Sorry to hear about the mugging – sadly I'm sure that kind of behaviour still goes on regularly. Been fortunate to have avoided it myself so far.

I actually feel a bit sad for him.

First time he was a very good solid player...was gutted he was sold. Dont think he particularly agitated for a move and was a good Premier League player.

We tempted him back with a big contract and just hasnt quite worked out. Not the best passer in the world but positionally very good. Frozen out a bit unfairly perhaps...but I suppose 2nd place says it's the right decision. Hope it works out for him.

Curtis Davies makes it the right decision - dovetails much better with Keogh than Shackell ever did.

Good luck to him though

If they don't mind I'll halves in with them for a house in Guildford. When I say halves I mean I'll pay for their train fare for their taxi ride to the house viewing.

Wouldn't go anywhere near Peckham, what a cesspit. Worked there for a few years Bellenden Rd is about as smart and swanky as it gets but the roads and estates off it are filthy dangerous places.

As for Millwall I quite like them, yes half of them are banned but they're very loyal and I admired them for flying their flags off their balconies in places most of us would call inhabitable, explains why their renowned for being nasty, a lot of them live in absolute squalor!
