Barker has left the club

It was Clough's promise and not McClaren's.  He's now obviously in a position where he's ready to make a go of it. But this isn't Nigel's Derby. Was Sam Rush even here when it happened?

I think this is what he was alluding to. That once Rush arrived and then Clough left, the general attitude towards him changed. Which is understandable, as they inherited the problem. But they clearly didn't see him in the plans however well his rehab went. Again, understandable, given that the team was performing much better and Barker was getting older and never going to come back as the quite the same player we would have needed him to be.

And he wasn't saying it with any bitterness at all, I think he really just meant that he knew what was coming

from a business point of view.. Have we just paid for all barkers rehabilitation and 3 years of wages for no reason?

Speculative risk innit... we paid it because there was a chance of him coming back earlier and a chance of him returning to be an asset...

At the time as well we were a mid-table Champs side in which an 85% Barker might have been good.

They paid for it all because he got a career ending injury playing for Derby. Like I said, the first specialist told Derby that Barker wouldn't play again at this level. But Derby still had a duty to Barker and they needed him to fight back fit. For himself as much as anything. So they set down the path to return him to fitness.

Fans are the first to moan about lack of loyalty in football but as soon as a player stops playing on the pitch then it's the fans who start suggesting selling and releasing players.

From a business point of view it would make sense to have released Barker when he couldn't even run and his contract was up.

But from a business point of view you end up like Blackpool. Mike Ashley makes great business decisions too.

My Shaun Barker tribute video from a couple of years ago, favourite goal is a toss up between the header at PP against Boro, or striker like finish at Loftus Road. Sums up everything about the guy when Ben Davies was nearly in tears on late kick off talking about his injury. Doing great work for charity in derby now too, top man.

I think the club have behaved brilliantly with Shaun Barker since he was injured, especially if the story about his insurance expiring is true.  Barker has also done fantastically to get back to a position where he feels he can play Championship level football again, this has shown all the bravery and determination that he displayed as a great player and great captain for our club.

It is a shame (for many reasons) that we hadn't sewn up the title before the Reading game allowing us to bring him on for the last half hour but it wasn't to be.

Hope he gets a club and gets back to a level of performance he is happy with but I think both sides can walk away proud of how this has been dealt with for the last 3 years.

Anyone get the chance to see him for u21's how did he do? Just on sentiment I would have kept him as a squad player. But without seeing him its an unfair judgement really.

Yes I did. Way off championship level.

With a pre- season, he looking at Div 2 ie Mansfield

Wow...went to ground a lot in first minute or so.....shocked, truly shocked. Can't we coach it out of best players to appease some fans......?

great clips, wish him well ....would love to see him end up at Burton Albion
