Clough Has Gone

Personally, this season so far has been the final straw for me with Clough. He's done a brilliant - no, outstanding job with peanuts to spend but at the end of the day he just gets outwitted by other managers far too often. We seem clueless at home and despite creating next to nothing yesterday, Clough thought the performance was okay. His criticisms of players seemed irrational and inconsistent. However, he is the man who has found stability for the worst team in the history of English football. For that, he will always be remembered in my eyes as a success and the perfect man for the job at the time. We just need something different now.

However, if you are somehow revelling in this decision or dancing around and laughing, then hang your head in shame. No matter what your opinion on Clough's ability or style as a manager, he wanted exactly the same thing as all of us and he worked tirelessly to get it. This hasn't just been his life for four years, it's been his life since he was born. In a way, it's tragic that the Clough family still has unfinished business at the club and if you had even a shred of empathy you could understand what a massive impact this will have on the man's life. Especially after playing Forest, and losing his mother recently.

I don't think Clough was good enough as an all-round manager in the end, but you know what? I couldn't be happier to be proved wrong.

I really hope he bounces back, learns from his mistakes and finds success elsewhere in football. And you've also got to spare a thought for the whole Clough family.

Top post Duracell.

Thank the FOOOOOOOOK hes been sacked, he was taking us nowhere, he was constantly criticising individual players in public and had a **** style of management, its made my weekend and i hope he takes the rest of the coaching bag of sh1te with him

The thing is, it's going to be people like you who will be the first to scream your dissatisfaction at the new manager as soon as we lose the next game. We've joined the knee-jerk merry-go-round now.

Nice post Duracell. Clough is Derby through-and-through and I can't even begin to imagine the hurt he is probably feeling this morning. After sleeping on it, I'm very disappointed how the end has come about, I'd have liked to have thought (perhaps naively) that if the board wanted him to go they could've offered him a mutual consent termination - a little bit of dignity. To sack him after Forest of all games and the post-match comments suggesting this was a preemptive move is not something I want my club to be associated with.

Its all a bit of a shock still. I'm interested to hear Clough's (if indeed he does speak out about this) views.

He would be the worst manager for OUR situation he spent money to get up and alot to stay up we dont have money.

There is no way that Pulis would join Derby without certain financial assurances. The non-investing investors are loaded - typical fat cat businessmen who earn more per year through their fat cat businessman bonuses than you or I will ever see in our lifetimes. In order to get the man they want, they will have to fork out.

All you traitors that think the name Clough is more important than Derby County FC will be able to piss off and support him he takes over at Notts Forest.

Oh hang on, that's assuming anyone higher than league 2 would ever employ him!

This is the sort of statement, even if made in jest, that causes friction. The implication that Notts Forest would be higher than league 2 when Clough rides in to rescue them is patently ridiculous and purely designed to wind people up.

Distasteful. Clough has never been more important than the club. Incidentally, I thought the last year or two he hasn't been good enough, difference is most have a bit more respect for the man and would have wanted a bit less of a callous exit. There are more important things than football results, its what a football club represents. What Derby did last night was sly and I didn't like it, regardless of Nigel's abilities.

Having slept (badly) on it, this decision feels even worse.

It will be like starting from scratch on yet another managers "5 year plan", "this can't be done overnight" "players just not fit enough" "I need my own team around me" blah blah. I can hear it all now.

So very very depressing and such crass timing by a clueless and classless board who have expected £20million squad performance fron 2-3 million (net) investment  in players.

Nigel., you leave with the gratitude of all discerning Rams fans. As for the rest of them, you're well rid. Good Luck and Farewell.

He spent around 4 mill to get promoted but sold nearly 2 mill worth of players so really only spent 2-2.4 mill to get promoted. How much did clough spend?.

You also need to look at the players he can attract in the loan market, pulis could attract far better players than clough could.

I'm not having a go at clough, but to say pulis would be a worse manager is still a silly comment.

That is Harsh, Mostyn, he will get another job in the championship, a team like we were 4 1/2 years ago, spending too much on wages and players not performing, similar to Bolton at the moment, if Freedman is next to go I wouldn't be surprised to see Clough given the job.

I am very disappointed with his sacking. They should have given Clough at least until mid season. He is as much a part of this club as me or you and I like having the same manager long term. I do not want us to turn into every other club that swaps and changes their manager every 12-18 months. I am mortified by the list of potential replacements. If Tony Pulis or that ex England manager replace him (Mc no Jim Smith), I will boo them.

I am worried about what will happen to all our current prospects and those in the waiting. Anyone would think that we were bottom, playing terrible football with a huge experienced squad!!!!

Will be chanting Clough's name on Tuesday!!!

I will be joining you Yanks knee jerk reaction to save their own bacon!!!!!!!!
