In response to a direct question. He said he wasn't interested in flipping the club. See minutes in SCG thread from BAWT.
Thanks. Let’s hope it’s true. From what we’ve seen so far I’d like to see him stick with us.

I would be staggered if the question of playing style and culture did not feature prominently.
Playing style may have featured prominently but I don’t think we should be staggered if it didn’t. It’s quite possible he was focused mostly on getting a professional, experienced management team with a record of getting out of div 1.

You keep repeating that you think he'll be looking to sell the club quickly, but this is the exact opposite of what he told the SCG on Thursday evening.
Interesting. Was it in response to a direct question ? Or did he volunteer it ?

You don't have to run after the ball if the possession is all on the opposition penalty area. You just sit and maintain your shape.
Even I can’t argue with that ?

Possession for possession sake, never understood the benefits of that
Ok it doesn’t always work. But : it’s tiring running after the ball, you can’t score if you’ve not got it, if you’ve not got it for long periods you sometimes forget what to do with it, and a team constantly on the back foot will eventually have a lapse of defensive concentration

The stats are stacked way in favour of teams who would be considered as playing a more 'attractive' possession based style.
In the top two divisions this is an obviously true statement, at least since refs began to protect players from thuggery. But is it a correct statement for the third tier ? Where too many players don’t have the quality for it to work?
on this topic, DC is of course wanting to see us promoted. (I think his ideal will be to sell the club when we go up, not least because he’s conscious of the risk involved in club ownership.) When he interviewed Paul W for the job, his first question might have been : “can you get this group of players promoted ?” Not sure the question : “can you promise me and my fellow fans attractive free flowing football ?” would even be on the agenda

Derby County: Green; Webster, Robson; Durban, McFarland, Mackay; McGovern, Carlin, O'Hare, Hector, Hinton.
Manchester United: Stepney; Edwards, Dunne; Crerand, Ure, Sadler; Morgan (Stiles, 57), Law (Fitzpatrick, 25), Charlton, Kidd, Best.
Loved that Derby team - and even more after Todd joined - but it’s testament to Clough’s brilliance that they humbled that ManU line up.

My suspicion is one of Bird or Hourihane will find themselves unfavoured.
I don't think Hourihane has the legs anymore to do the aggresive pressing that I think Warne would ask of him in one the more advanced midfield of roles. But his ability at a dead ball, his shooting from long range, his ability to pick someone out in the box and his experience are all things might lead Warne to trying to get him in the team. In which case he probably shoe horns him in as the deepest midfielder.
Meanwhile Bird is better on the ball, has better vision, has better positioning, tactical awareness, is better defensively and his reading of the game is better.
Bird is better suited for that role on most accounts. It's just whether Warne feels we need to accommodate Hourihane. It's also possible Hourihane gets accommodated for by playing somebody like Roberts as the Lwb and/or Sibley as a 10 behind Collins or McGoldrick. Something like
Wildsmith
Chester Davies Cashin
Bird
NML Knight Hourihane Roberts
Sibley
Collins
sounds right what you say about Hourihane and Bird. Will be interesting to see whether Sibley starts. Any road up, Warne must be creaming himself at having Mcgoldrick at his disposal - surely the only thing that prevents him starting is fitness.

With so many players signing for Liam this Summer, to play in a certain style, I am wondering which players will fit a Paul Warne team and which will be casulaties.
Warne's preferred formation is 3-5-2 with a high energy, high press.
First casualty I see if Mendez-Laing. He left Sheff Wed because he didn't fit into their 3-5-2. Wednestday play a similar style and he didn't work as a RWB.
Seems a shame as he has probably been our best player so far this season.
Who else do you think could lose out in this change? Who could adapr?
If he looks at the tapes from last season around December, January, I think he might fancy Knight and Tommo as part of the midfield. And from this season, Dobbin’s ability to press could catch his eye. Wouldn’t be surprised to see more of Stearman and Fozzie

Worth listening to Barks on this appointment
Find this really encouraging given how well Barker knows him. Barker picks his words very carefully but always says what he thinks . Wonder if Warne spoke to him before jumping

I have been frustrated with the slow play through Cocu and Rooney's tenure, during which time LR was on the coaching staff. I hoped that when he became manager, there would be a change in the style of play
A number of pretty good sources have told us that LR was the strategic power behind the Rooney throne last season ie it was LR’s style of play.
And what we’ve seen on the pitch this season supports that -

it's not an easy job for him to walk into from a player management perspective.
The break will help with transition.
And maybe some of the senior players saw LR’s inexperience and will encourage the dressing room to welcome someone who knows the division well and has done it.

Would love to see something like this. Only qn is whether Curtis is fit enough

never been convinced by his ability to really command the respect of senior players
Agree with this. Between them the older players have seen busloads of managers and if he didn’t impress them he’d never have got sufficient buy in
Also hope the change will reduce the chances of losing some valuable players in January
still surprised though - the decision must have been made several weeks ago

They will all be on one or two year contracts and not on huge wages. But our wage budget is capped by EFL so we can't bring in new players without shipping these ones out.
Agree the wages will not be huge. But astonished to see in the press they are on a 4 year deal. Don’t get that at all

I thought - till Xmas at least. But Liam could have forced the issue of a permanent job title.
If he’d forced the issue (don’t think that’s his style) I think we’d now have a different manager
Think the club was right to wait and see and he’s likely got until Xmas. It’s a more thoughtful approach than we saw from MM
LR now got some thinking to do as to how far to adopt the tactical changes that we saw against Wycombe. I think DC’s team will be watching his next step very carefully

Just out of interest, does anyone know if there have been any formal investigations or challenges made in to Quantuma’s practice, relating to the Administration process ?
The old club-owning company seems to have been wound up
only real risk of repercussions for q was if a creditor sued them. Good money after bad, so unlikely and probably now too late. But it might be interesting if Couhig makes a claim. Or if Kirchner tries to get back the money Stretford lent him for May wages.
Anyway, thought they were unimpressive and made a couple of major blunders
No wonder the EFl was on about getting a panel of well-staffed experienced firms to do this in future ( Light the blue touch paper and stand well back)

’ve seen somewhere , and I’m afraid I can’t remember where or I’d reference it, that it pertains to pitch size.
Where the pitch sizes are similar, the away record tends to be a much closer match to the home record. There was a lot written years ago about Arsenal and Highbury along these lines. Small pitch, strong home record, but not so good on the road
it makes sense
what also makes some sense is the suggestion that teams with lots of youngsters will fare less well away from home: The youngsters are less likely than old lags to perform well in unfamiliar surroundings

What do you guys think
One of the things LR has done this season and last is move players around during a game. Festy last season the best example, and he did the same with Fozzie. I think NML is most useful out wide on the right - he just loves to power down the line. But he’s shown he can finish so I think a temporary switch during a game is an interesting idea

Yes. Keeping Bird, Knight, Cashin, Rooney and Sibley would be a very good start. I think they’ll be impressed by PW and his team so less to fear in January
