It doesn’t make us look any safer at the back either.

Unrelated but think cashin should be vice captain. Looks a leader to me, drives the team forward when behind. Even from centre back. Would be very happy with him having the armband from Davies at the end of the season. Easily our best defender now.

He’s becoming a fabulous footballer but he’s virtually a schoolboy and needs to focus on his improvement - don’t burden him with leadership roles

Flag across the chest signal was scrapped a couple of years ago. The signal for a penalty now is running towards the corner flag with flag down pointing at the ground, coming to a standstill on the corner.

On the subject of linesmen, and the massive offside missed just before their first goal The lino below the east stand had the sun in his face and was running the line trying to shield his eyes with one hand. He looked like a sailor on lookout in a gender fluid farce. The PV right wing was about 4 yards offside.

Why would linesmen not be issued with baseball caps so that they have a chance of doing their job when this happens? And if they don’t have one, why wouldn’t they just ask someone - anyone - for one ?

and certainly don’t see how the ref can give it from the position he was in (ie. 30 yards away),

Well I was 130 yards away.  I wasn’t looking at Collins. But the guy next to me evidently was, because the moment before the ref pulled out the red card he said ‘you ducking idiot. Well that’s a red.”

Midfield still an issue. This isn’t a Warne issue, it’s been a problem all season. Bird

Hourihane thinks his job is to take free kicks and corners and to show the odd moment of brilliance if someone gets the ball to him in space. Otherwise he slows up play (we were transitioning better and more quickly today especially in the first half, until the ball got to him) and saunters around. We started with 10.5 and ended with 9.5 players. Doesn’t work

Well yes. His contribution to the game was limited to that then?

Yeah it was pretty disappointing.  Good chance though that we’ll more and more play a style of football that suits him. And that - as PE requires the players to be more energetic and aggressive out of possession - he’ll become a regular

He’s the victim of his own success. He overachieved against expectations in a few of the games he played last season despite not really being strong enough on the ball.

He’s the victim of being stuck in a system where we have slow possession (doesn’t suit him) and where he is required to drop deep facing his own goal to play the ball out of defence. It’s not a system that plays to his strengths and as a result he’s made bad mistakes that have probably affected his confidence on the ball.  Lucky for him, nor is it a system that appeals to Warne.

Thought Warne's comments were bang on. My only real disappointment was Sibley and Thompson did have a chance to shine and I don't think they've done their case any good

was a bit disappointed by Tommo - he looked so promising in late 2021. I think in a midfield mix involving more senior players he will do better - and he and Knight together in a midfield of 5 might provide good balance alongside the more senior players. Despite his lacklustre performance he was one of the players Warne singled out in his post match interview so would not be surprised to see more of him. He’s Warne’s sort of player

  9. There are good taxi firms in Ipswich who would do it for £100 maybe a little more (it’s about 50miles and takes 1 hour). I’ve found the taxi firms round there (I go to Woodbridge and Wickham Market quite often) friendly and reliable. Book, then call them the day before to check !  If your flight is late they’ll adjust.  The local trains are OK but at the moment the strikes make everything less predictable. The rail via London suggestion is worth considering - it’s round the houses but those are two reliable and quick services. But you’ll be paying for Stanstead ——>London, London —-> Ipswich which with 3 of you might end up being more than the cost of a taxi. The UKtrainline site will tell you all about rail services. You can find the Ipswich cab firms  on google

I presume Sibley here should also read Knight!

The one game I can recall is that Knight scored 2 goals in one of his very early games, possibly his debut, in a 2-1 win at home to Charlton. It was the game where Bielik was sent off, when Cocu was manager.

Knight seems to have lost a little of his mojo last couple of games. I wish he would stop speaking to his national manager
