Not much animosity on the Rotherham forum for either Warne or Derby.

Sensible stuff, bigger club, bigger ambition, bigger car park, bigger wage packet.

They’ve got 15 pages of new manager suggestions, if I was them I’d wait a few weeks and appoint Steve Cooper! ?

No exactly. They seem a very level-headed lot from a brief browse on their forums.

How have the Rotherham fans taken Warne leaving? Any juicy hate we can have a laugh at?

Most folk on their forums seem remarkably level-headed about it in the circumstances and understand why (after some success with them) that he'd want to challenge himself elsewhere than Rotherham. The general mood seems to be good luck to him and thanks for the ride. Fair play to them, they seem to get that that's the reality of football, just as we see players and managers sod off when Prem clubs come calling. Nowt we can do about it so no point getting wound up about it. We move on.. the king is dead, long live the king and all that.

  3. Presumably a potential sponsor won't want shirts on sale before they get a deal in place so you'd imagine that this was a priority. We're already into September and with shirts only good for one year and in the current financial climate it's not making a shirt purchase look more attractive as the weeks and months roll by.

Many's the time I have said the same - I enjoy the occasional opposition fan giving their view.

Don't do it myself though, going on opposition forum seems rather like getting it on with your missus' mate...we've all considered it, you know the change would be great and you start with the intention that you will be low key and no-one's gonna get hurt... but we all know it's inevitably going to end in tears ?

Yeah, no issue here at all, I'm happy to hear reasonable debate and contributions from oppo fans, just not the foaming hysterical nonsense that we get from Forest, Boro and Leeds and certain Bristol City fans.

I often check out opposition boards to see what their take was before we play and again after the game. We are all occasionally guilty of seeing things through Rams tinted specs so it's always interesting for example to see who opposition fans think was a threat and it's not always who you think, plus the 'best team to come to <insert random stadium> this year' comments are useful to put our performances in context.

  5. *Caveat... hasn't done the questionnaire yet so might be misreading this..*

Rivals to me is a traditional, logical rival not a team like Boro or another random who I just can't stand for some whatever reasons, another is Birmingham, but that's not 'rivals', just irritation at their attitude last year and in the past have had stuff chucked at me by their lovely fans, hitting the young family who were sat in front of me.

We have certainly had our share of beef with Leeds and I'm always delighted when we've turned them over and they are very much on the shortlist of teams that I really want to beat but I can't list them as primary rivals. Now we obviously have some logical history with Leeds and they are seriously salty still after the playoff semi-final but they would probably list several teams ahead of us. Wouldn't ever want to be that team who hates another team who is a bit 'meh' *shrug* in return.

It has to be Forest for me. Leicester is another a team I always really want to beat, a bit like Leeds, but if I could beat one then it'd be Forest all day.

Of course, now they've snuck a promotion I have no doubt that they will all be pretending that Leicester were always their main local rivals...

  6. Firstly, total respect for what the OP is trying to do, that's an absolute tragedy and a needless loss of a young life.

Ultimately I think you can only make these decisions on a very much personal level as it affects you. I understand that in these cash strapped times that clubs will grab whichever is the biggest offer and I wouldn't boycott games or anything if we went down that route again.

That said, I really really hope that we can buck the trend and find another source of money because betting does seem to have a stranglehold on sponsorship. I have watched that Clowes interview and he mentions 'integrity' a number of times. He is clearly looking to reset the relationship with the EFL and regardless of what has happened to this point, I think that is the right thing to do. I do wonder if he has a strong personal preference as to the sort of company that he wants to deal with re sponsorship though. The process is certainly not being rushed.

  7. I occasionally attend a completely random game as well if we are not playing. I find it gives you a different perspective to just attending a ground as an away fan and would recommend it to folk.

Glad you enjoyed your day out at PP and sorry about the awful traffic ! Yep, I always park in the city centre these days and walk in from there. Takes me about half an hour but that is still quicker than the discounted parking that I can get closer through my company on that industrial park. It's a fair old walk from the centre but at least you feel that you are getting somewhere ! Means that I can get a bit more of my Saturday night back as I drive back up to Gtr Manchester. Anyway, enjoy your return visit later in the season ?

  8. Rosenior was really happy with him but post match didn't seem to consider it a long-term solution. Hope he can find a spot for him in the midfield (even as a rotation option) because his energy could be very important. We still look a tad sluggish at times.

Yeah, I’m with you. The sponsor if and when added could compliment or ruin them so hard to make a final decision but currently Away, Home and Third is my order of preference. Really hoping the sponsor isn’t gambling related.

Looking forward to seeing them wearing it tomorrow, football is back!

Yup ! Agree with all that and the order of preference. Horrible multicoloured logo could butcher all of them of course. We actually get away lightly as football fans with one main sponsor. The average rugby league shirt is just an advertising hoarding with enough room to make out the underlying colour and squeeze a club badge on. Even the backs are covered in a mess of different sponsor logos. All universally horrible.

On 2 August 2019, Bielik joined Derby County on a five-year contract. The fee was undisclosed, but reported by the Telegraph as an initial fee of below Derby's record fee paid of £8 million, plus performance-related clauses that could take it "towards the £10 million mark".

Hm, hes going no where on a free and we are definately not taking just 8 million for him.

As our best midfielder, i think we could settle for 7 million and lose 1 million on his original fee, failing that the championship clubs that are interested in him can get stuffed!

I don't see many/any shelling out 7-8m for him. An excellent player at ours and Championship level (when he plays) but surely needs to prove that he is over his injury issues which is far from certain. I know that he's a Polish international and all but that sort of money is a huge gamble for a Championship club with his injury record and Prem clubs surely have better/safer options.

  11. I'm really not intending to be negative but my gut feeling is that we will need some time to get into our stride so I expect a slow start. We have a reasonable squad which has some quality in some areas but there are still some real weaknesses and very limited cover (that is good enough) plus very little playing time together as a first team not just a rotating squad for pre-season. I think we're just going to have to be a bit patient and not over-react if it doesn't all click straight away.

Momentum and a winning habit can be really important, particularly when you want players to buy into what you are trying to do so I really hope for our managers sake that we can get off the mark with wins home and away quickly. I really don't expect promotion this year but hope that we can see something that suggests that we are on the right track and finish the season strongly.

  12. It's a mixed bag of measures so its hard to have an opinion on all of it as a whole but some of the things mentioned worry me a lot more than others. I really don't like pyros, they are deeply unpleasant to be next to and it makes me very edgy when people chuck them about, particularly in the direction of people who perhaps haven't seen it coming. Aside from danger to eyes and potential burns I guess they could also set off all sorts of breathing related conditions.

The pitch invasion aspect is a problematic one to try and apply half measures as it covers anything from a good natured celebration of promotion or survival after the final whistle and hugging your mate on the pitch,  to a drunken idiot wanting to celebrate and interact with one of their own players during a game, to a full-on attempt to get to a player with an intention to seriously injure them. Problem is that you won't know which it is until events unfold. Pyros keep getting into grounds and so can weapons and it is totally realistic to suggest that it is a matter of time before something very very serious happens and a player, official or opposition fan is killed within the playing area. Frankly even if it is a punch and someone then sparks out and hits their head on a hard surface like an advertising hoarding or the hard pitch surround then that could be lethal. How do you stop some of it without stopping all of it though. I guess this is where we were a long while back when fences went up, ultimately with such disastrous consequences. We can't go there again.

As has been mentioned on here before. I remember distinctly the shock that greeted Monica Seles getting stabbed while playing Tennis. Some guy with serious issues wandered on and knifed her in the back. If it can happen at tennis then it can certainly happen at football with a much bigger crowd and chance of having someone there with an intent to cause a problem. The sheer number of fans that can spill onto a pitch of a decent sized game makes it completely impossible to keep an eye on everyone to see if they are harmless or not. Recent behaviour is forcing the hand of the authorities though. Can you by sheer weight of stewards and police prevent it ? And who will pay ?

  13. After everything that everybody at DCFC have collectively endured over the last year or two this really stinks. In recent years in particular I haven't had a particularly high opinion of many footballers but then folks like Curtis and Colin Kazim Richards completely restore your faith only for it to be 'Byrned' or 'Buchananed'. If this is true then it's just a cynical way of trying to denying the club any cash while slightly improving their own negotiating position. It's just despicable behaviour and I have nothing but utter contempt for them.
