Can I just clarify RoyMac, you were keen to remove Cocu playing the style he did and getting the poo results he did but support Wazza who plays almost the same way and gets the same poo results, just wanted to check I was reading your stance correctly ?

Hard to know, there are some managers who can galvanize a squad and get them performing way beyond the sum of their parts. Barnsley, Luton and Millwall (good old snakey) are prime examples this season.

Can anyone actually name a player in our squad which Rooney has actually improved? I can name a lot who’s gone backwards under him but none that’s improved

But what does a manager/coach do if not make gifted individuals play as a team?

I'm not saying they're good, but surely they're at least better than relegation.

How can Rooney be a disappointment if you don't think anyone else could get better out the team? That doesn't make sense. Wouldn't that just make you content with Rooney? I just have to disagree, I think another manager would get more out of them. How many clubs in our position in the past, sack a manager and need someone to come in and save them from relegation, hire a complete unqualified novice? it's unheard of. Other clubs in this situation would hire an experienced manager to hopefully see them through. I believe if we went for someone like Mick McCarthy (who's previously got the best out of Lawrence and Waghorn at Ipswich) he'd would do enough to keep us up.
Rooney play's worse football than anyone else in the league and for me has shown no tactical nous what so ever. Even teams with mostly league 1 players like Rotherham play better. Would it not even be worth a Mac all or nothing gamble? he's had instant results before.

I virtually guarantee you'll watch Jozwiak tear up some game playing in a different team, and you'll just remember him being crap for us instead of wondering what we weren't doing to unlock the player we needed.  It's almost a certainty he'll move on next season, and I can recognise there's a good player in there.

1st team isn’t really a good comparison as it’s a squad game these days. Look how often we’ve chopped and changed our lineups.
All the players I’ve mentioned would get into the others teams squads in varying guises, they couldn’t all be plonked into one team. Most would make the starting lineups.

Who’d have thought Mason Bennett, George Evans and Scott Malone would be key players at a top 10 side yet not good enough for us?
Waghorn was Ipswich’s leading scorer with 16 goals, Bird, Knight and Sibley have all attracted the attention of Prem clubs, Joz looks good on the international stage, Byrne is a very solid Champ RB, Marshall a solid Champ keeper, Lawrence can be one of the better players in the division when his heads right.
At different clubs with different managers these players could thrive.

    Thanks Angie
There's still a strong view on here that the main problem is the players. Countless comments about needing a 'squad overhaul' & 'a clear out' when the real problem is management, a settled style of play & value recruiting specifically to that.
We've been less than the sum of our parts all season & that's been the case for many years now.

Always worth following Derby's squad. We buy high, sell low & are good for 'cast offs' that inevitably do well under stable & competent management elsewhere. It's the reason we're now skint & flirting with the drop.
Was particularly disappointed we let Evans go, thought he had the makings of a good Championship CB & Malone was nowhere near as bad as some on here thought, think stupidly high wages had a hand in that decision. Bennett had to go for off field reasons really & Pearce barely played.
Others? Marriott would definintely thrive in a Millwall side. Pretty ordinary as a lone man up top in a possession based team but in a side looking to counter with direct passes over the top, he'll bag plenty. Waghorn gets plenty of stick on here but he's another one I could see doing well in a more direct side.

Considering Rotherham seem to be our main rivals this season, how many of there players would you actually put in our team? 1 or 2 if that? There squads so bad they were even happy to take Jozefzoon of us.
Does this not suggest that we should at least be above Rotherham's level? does this not suggest that either the players aren't playing to there ability? or (more likely in my opinion) the coaches aren't getting the best out of them?

I'm sure every club in the division can point to injuries and bad decisions that cost them points. We aren't where we are now because of a few bad bits of luck.

4 points from 11 games is not a blip. We are relegation material. We need Rotherham to lose three in a row, which is not going to happen. Other teams with players not as good as ours on paper are doing better than us.

Hiring a rookie manager in a season like this one was our big mistake. One roll of the dice too many from Mel Morris and it’s coming back to bite us. It’s the reason we are where we are. Whether we go down or not; hiring Wayne Rooney was the wrong decision.
Fantastic playing career, sensational player, worked with some of the best managers of all time and I don’t buy the idea for one second that he isn’t smart.
But the reality is that nothing in his playing career has prepared him for a scrap at the battle of the Championship. This is a person who has known nothing but success in his career. Why he is even at this club in the first place is something but a mystery to me...unless of course you give credence to the idea that he was promised to inherit the reigns from Cocu...
The blame for all of this lies at door of the person who hired him.

From a humiliation & financial point of view, I couldn't ever see relegation to League One as a good thing.
However if we do go down, we have to make the best of it & see it as a much needed opportunity for a reset. Our greatest assets seem to be our young players & I would clear the decks of any established players on large wages.
Goes without saying, Rooney should 100% go if we go down to cleanse this club of the celebrity obsession it has remorsely chased since 2015. No more Billy bigtime or quick fixes. A young & hungry manager (with a good record elsewhere) and a young & hungry squad is what this club needs...I'd just rather it was in the Championship.
