Much better performance today over the 90 minutes. Should have been at least 2 if it wasn’t for their goalkeeper. Played through the thirds rather than just lumping it

    Full-time!
Back in to the top 6, a 4-goal swing in the goal difference with Peterborough, firmly back in our hands.
I don't think today could have gone too much better for us. COYR.

Ducking hate this game. The entire of Burton Albion’s existence revolves around it. The height of their ambition is beating us. They’ll Turn up and play the best they’ve ever played because it’s their Champions League final.

This is a very annoying trait, but all players do it from time to time, even McGoldrick who I've just praised for not being that sort of player.
When Knight bumbled past their LB in the first half and hit a weak left footed shot toward the near post for the keeper to save, ignoring 3 Derby players in the middle of the box were there howls of derision and claims that he has no footballing intelligence? Of course not, if that'd have been Sibley however people would be on his case. His every move is scrutinised beyond that of any other player.
We saw in the very first game Sibley roll one over to Hourihane to smash it in for a late winner - he could have shot then but didn't, it's not like he's unwilling or incapable of playing someone else in.
It's an example of why he needs more time in a settled position, a settled team and less time being brought off the bench with 15-20 minutes to go in games we're losing and asked to drag us back into it - of course he's going to continue to develop a 'shoot first' mentality under those conditions because it's his strongest asset.
He may develop into a more rounded player, he may not, but it's not going to happen when there's so much pressure applied to his every performance and if he keeps getting dropped or moved whenever he doesn't have an impact.

Personally I think one of the big priorities this summer is to pick up as many talented/Semi-talented youngsters as we can that have ben released from other academies to re-stock and retain our Tier 1 status.
We had a purple patch of picking up players like Ebiowei and Plange who were released from other academies that not only improved our academy but quite quickly progressed on to the first team and I believe players like Sonny Blu Lo-Everton have impressed since they have come in although understandably the focus has been on the first team until now.
Obviously with restrictions still in place we will probably maintain a small squad again next year so having quality youngsters pushing to get in to the first team will strengthen our bench & depth.

I agree in principle, as I enjoy the interviews, highlights etc.
I'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't actually watched a game on RamsTV, as I've been there, so no idea what it's like.
I miss the under 21s coverage, though, and hope that will be back soon.
    And I like Owen's suits!

Credit to Warne and his staff for their part in the result last night. Before the game a few questioned the lineup, and a few of the recent concerns were present regarding patterns of play and a clear plan for the side in the first half. Whatever was said at half time seems to have contributed to a much improved performance in the second half with better passing, movement, confidence and intent from the side, similar to the first half at home to MK Dons.
Does/should he stick with that same side at home to Burton? We could really do with building back to a 90 minute performance and carrying momentum into these final 3 (hopefully 6) games.

Full time. Derby 1-2 Buxton. Unfair result on the lads after playing well for most of the game. The odd mistake being our downfall... But that's always going to happen with a team with limited experience. Both of Buxton's goals must have been less than a yard out!
Most of the players were solid. Standouts for me were Dan Cox in defence (playing well beyond his years!) Kido Taylor-Hart (great close control) and Dajaune Brown (physically strong and quick).

Also hope PW continues with Sibley playing high. He didn’t have a great game but he needs a proper chance and I think he could score some vital goals in the next 3 games

Good win. Very good first 30 of the second half.
The trio of McGoldrick, NML and Sibley showed a lot of promise at times. Good movement, interchanges and allowed us some flexibility at times in midfield. Some promising signs. Typical that we concede just after going 2 up, they like to make us suffer. Back 3 solid and Knight and Roberts looked good. Exeter weren’t great, but that was better. We’ll done lads 🐏🐏

    Rooney     Forsyth    Cashin       Roberts
                                    Bird
                       Knight          Sibley
    Dobbin         McGoldrick (C) Barkhuizen
Subs- McGee, Davies, Smith, White, Hourihane, NML, Collins
    - Not sure I could withstand watching Barkhuizen and NML at wing back again, it’s genuinely painful watching Barkhuizen play in such an unnatural role and NML’s a complete liability there, Jamie Ward said on radio Derby if you play him there you may as well play with 10 men and Bristol completely encapsulated that, you completely nullify all his qualities by putting him there, either find someone else to play wing back or don’t play wing backs, pretty simple really. NML’s clearly knackered and has been for months now, his pace could be useful for 20 minutes off the bench though.
    - Would equally be happy with Knight at right back and Rooney in holding midfield, think he could be useful there, but I don’t think Warne has the balls for it so it’s a pipe dream really, get Forsyth back in, he must’ve been involved in about 500 playoff pushes for us which is experience that our defence needs right now, just please don’t start Davies.
    - Mcgoldrick has the option to drop deep and get Knight and Sibley running beyond him, I still think they can both become high scoring midfielders, we should’ve based this team around getting them to do that, we should’ve a long time ago. Extremely doubt Sibley will start, for whatever reason Warne doesn’t like him, it’s so bizarre, especially after the press conference after Oxford where Warne was adamant Sibley had been really consistent for him, yet since Fleetwood, he’s started 1 game, which was at wing back, for the millionth time, why?
    - Would be amazed if Collins starts again, since his goal at Burton on the tenth of December, he has ONE non penalty goal (Wycombe away, correct me if I’m wrong), which is the same amount as Eiran Cashin, Haydon Roberts and Max Bird in that space of time, as well as being less than Knight, Dobbin, Sibley, Barkhuizen, NML and Hourihane.
    - Finding it incredibly hard to get myself up for this game, it’s so predictable, we’ll either dominate the first half, get a slim lead then draw 1-1 because of a failure to react to tactical changes, or we’ll dominate the first half, fail to score and then lose 2-0 because of a failure to react to tactical changes. Though it has to be said that Bristol was refreshing, we dominated for all of 5 minutes in that game, then got absolutely battered for 85 minutes and guess what? Drew 1-1 because of failure to react to tactical changes. Came away with an incredibly fortunate point and then argue we got robbed because of a soft penalty decision, I feel like we robbed them with the draw, can’t bring myself to feel cheated when we were that bad.

If we wanted to play wing backs Warne should’ve experimented and tried different players when he had the opportunities, bare in mind we had 2 papa johns games under Warne, 5 fa cup fixtures, and plenty of home games when we’ve been 2+ goals up. We could’ve tried Knight there, Oduroh (think he played the city under 21’s game and 20 minutes v Torquay), even youngsters like Brailsford and Grewal-Pollard could’ve at least been tried, how are you meant to know if you never try? I’ve got a lot of gripes with Wayne Rooney but he was never afraid to throw a young player in, and more often than not I’d argue it paid off, we nearly stayed up from it. If you look at the games where we’ve played with a 3 we’ve actually been most successful playing a 3-4-3 with Smith and Sibley as wing backs and Collins up top, and Forsyth as the sweeper, Bird and Hourihane as the midfield 2, we were in good form doing that but it got binned and we’ve never seen it since.
We all know we’ve got a small squad, but it hasn’t needed to be as small as it is, for example: why was Stretton sold In January after Osula had been recalled? You can argue he wasn’t good enough but he’d have been an extra body, played games for us at championship level and would’ve played much more last season if it wasn’t for injury. Why has Cybulski not been used at all? Instead he’s been farmed out on various loans in non league whilst we’ve got 2 strikers, one who’s more of a 10 anyway, at the very least he would’ve added some height we severely lack. Even young Dajaune Brown has been on the bench for the first team and clearly trains with the first team, he was heavily involved in the attacking drills at the open training session so clearly he’s on Warne’s radar, couldn’t he have had some minutes to give the two ageing strikers we’ve got a break, got a great record at under 18 level. Why has Stearman essentially retired after being heavily involved for the first two months? Including starting in back to back away clean sheets. Why has Liam Thompson barely kicked a ball after starting regularly in the championship last season? And then coming into the business end of the season and complaining about how ‘leggy’ the team is he’s allowed to go on loan to a national league side doomed for relegation, a loan that could never have gone well.
So yeah I feel for Warne due to the restrictions and the squad size, but he’s not completely innocent in this slide in form, there’s things he could’ve done which he’s chosen not to, and I believe by his own admission he turned a few players down in January due to feeling they weren’t good enough, something along those lines anyway, yet he decided to loan in Springett who barely featured, and when he did looked like a rabbit in the headlights.

IF the players came home between games and IF Warne gave them Sunday off, they'll only be doing light training this morning and then travelling down.
On the one hand, a bit less training might do them good; on the other hand it's less likely that Warne will risk another change of formation without practising it on the training field.
But I would. I think the players naturally know how to play a 4231 or similar, and they'd just slot into the groove.
Just get Sibley in there further forward and keep the ball on the ground!

There's a really, really big problem with your post and you don't even realise it. You're actually criticising Warne.
You're asking for solutions to problems exacerbated by the manager not being able to adapt his methods to suit the squad at his disposal and then having a go at me for not offering 'back up ideas'.  You're spouting "you cannot change a players basic makeup" at me and ignoring / excusing that this is exactly what Warne has been trying to do, rather than to find ways to work with what he has.
Warne knew about our limitations when he joined (to his credit, it's not a job everyone would take), he identified that we lacked players (as did everyone) in a certain age bracket, but he was fully aware that we're not in a position to make big changes to the makeup of the squad.
He's likely one of the higher paid managers in the division now, and with his record he probably should be - it's up to him to find solutions from within the squad, not me! Again, he knew exactly what he was walking into. You'd expect him to be able to show a lot more adaptability & tactical nuance than he has, to produce a team which is greater than the sum of its parts.
I'm not "moaning at everything we have" - quite the opposite in fact, I'm saying that at times more could have been made of what we have. You're the one moaning about what we don't have, acting like the way Warne has us set up is the only way things could possibly be and that the only reason we're faltering is because of the players he's working with.
If you can't make certain players do certain things, don't bloody ask them to by stubbornly insisting on a system that won't work with those players. If you don't have the players to play certain roles, don't play a system that specifically demands you do! That's not how building a team works, but it's a surefire way to make individual players look worse than they are and convince people that they are the problem.
Much like a good team, we don't all have to perform the same role as posters, there are a mix of different posting styles that add to the pot and complement each other. As to what else he could have done - look around - there are plenty of posts offering ideas of what we could do to lighten the load on our squad. There was a very good one by @JustOneBiblicalKazim on the Paul Warne thread a little earlier.
There's also only so much time any one person has to post and how many bases they can cover, if I was to put a post together with all of the complaints followed by all the possible solutions not only would it take me about 6 hours, it would be about 20,000 characters long. There's no point in me doing that when others can take up the slack to build on what's been written.
