For every Sunderland there is a Hull. It really depends which way you look at it. Of course you choose to take the view that Derby will struggle. Personally I think it requires a bit of balance.
All the clubs you have mentioned were a mess and went down under a cloud. The difference with Derby is that there is a potential takeover and a chance for a fresh start. The fanbase is united and the team that has been relegated isn't actually a relegation side.
You talk about Rooney potentially struggling to cope with the expectation despite the fact he was a serial winner as a player and knows exactly how to handle pressure. To essentially say that Rooney has had it easy this season, because there was no expectation to get results, is very unfair.
Yes there is a lot of work to do in the summer but if the takeover happens soon then I suspect quite a few of the current players will sign contracts. There is no reason why we cannot be really competitive next season.

yeah they did it properly, selling Jozefzoon to us for 2.7 million for example. they'd have got a golden gabble for that type of business.

we'll see, if it's slim pickings as I expect to be, i'll be cancelling Sky Sports very expensive now.

Oh for sure, certainly not getting ahead of myself. It will be a hard season, League One can be just as difficult to get promoted from as the Championship.
That said, you see the occasional season where a team (like Fulham this season, Sheff Utd when they went to League One) just bosses the league, I'd love to have one of them seasons even if it is in League One.

So would I but let's not get ahead of ourselves. It ain't going to be easy to get back up but, two things are for certain, I and many others will be there cheering them on at PP (can't wait for the day season tickets will be back on sale) and I'll be reaquainting myself with some grounds I've been to in the past plus hopefully some new ones.

I mean, i'd take a League One title over a mid-table Championship finish.

Good read, if you forgive the references to 'soccer'!
A bit out of date already, but good to get an outside perspective. Probably more about Rooney than us, but shows what his value is on a worldwide stage.

15 years then! Our history with foreign players isn’t particularly great. You look at Leicester pulling Mahrez from the French 2nd division for £400k and we spend more than that on Albentosa. The foreign market has been a major weakness for us for a long long time. At least at first team level anyway.

Problem with MM he had the right intensions but he ran DCFC the same way I run them on Football Manager and you cannot do that IRL.

Sure, MA has more money than CK but so has Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill Gates. Point being size of their wallet is irrelevant if they're not willing to take us on or waiting until we're barely a football club to get us as cheap as possible.
Besides I would have thought as a fanbase we'll be done with sugar daddies and I'm hoping the Derby way of buy high, high wages, get hyped by signing, get disappointed by signing and release on a free to hopefully be a thing of the past.

I want Rooney to stay next season, however my saving grace is that if he does go we might be able convince Curtis Davies to become player/manager or manager, as he bleeds black and white.
