Except when they play Derby. Our defeat to them at home about 2017 time (think it was 3-1?) broke a streak of something like 60 of their FA Cup games that were on TV in a row.

Any team with any kind of record must either hate or love playing us.

If they haven't won for ages, you just know that we'll give them a good chance to get that elusive win.

Or in the case of Man Utd in the FA Cup, you knew that drawing Derby would inevitably be just about the first time ever Man Utd weren't on TV.

They say things like this tend to even themselves out over time, yet we just always seem to be that club.

  2. West Brom will rest some players, but with a much bigger squad than us will still probably be fielding a decent side.

We ought to consider dropping those that are up to fitness, perhaps those who were with us last year, and possibly new signings who LR and the team think are now up to speed, and give a run out to those who need some game time for whatever reason.

I'd have any other attacking players on the bench who maybe need a goal for some confidence, and consider bringing them on with say 30 minutes to go.

Would rather lose this game say 4-2, but Collins and/or Dobbin and/or Sibbo getting a goal, than play out another timid draw.

We need to kick-start our goalscorers fir the league matches ASAP.

Now trying to find a striker who can bang in 20+ goals on a freebie and with our wage restrictions.

    There lies the problem.

We are creating chances and we will start to score soon .

Stay strong positive and patient people and the wins will come .?

Other teams find lower league gems. Are we even looking in that pond, or do we still think elder statesmen from the higher divisions are the answer?

Dobbin might fit the bill, but I hate just developing other clubs' players for them. It was great having Mount, but at the end of the day, it did nothing for us.

I'll be very interested come the end of the season to see who's in the top 10 League One goal scorers, their age, how long they've been at that club, and where they were signed from. I bet no Derby forward is in the top 10, but I hope I'm wrong.

And just how many times last season did we have 26 shots, 8 on target? Give your head a wobble. We are creating loads of chances, and it was last ditch tackles, last minute blocks, clearances of the line and saves by the keeper.

Eventually a goal will go in, we will win an away game and teams will start to worry about us.

We created so many chances against Fleetwood. FLEETWOOD! Name me a team last season that were as poor as them?

We've been so poor away from home for so long that I doubt anyone will fear us for some time.

More concerned with the inevitable over reaction that’s coming from the fan base. We did everything right today, just zero luck. Another day we’d have bagged a handful.

And how many times over the past couple of years have people said that?

If we had done everything right, we'd have won wouldn't we?

The way I'd interpret that, is that Barkhuizen is probably providing more defensive cover and taking more touches of the ball than NML (in both defending and attacking positions.)

Football is so much about opinions and interpretation.

The facts, as shown on the diagram, simply show the opposition's dominance in our right back's area where we should be stronger.

It may or may not be down to Knight's ability as a right back.

It may or may not be down to NML not helping out.

It's Liam and the team's job to identify possible issues like this and find a solution.

Currently the diagram shows we have a weakness, which I'm sure the opposition will exploit.

Whoever put that Ron Webster chap and the David Nish fella at full-back was an idiot. As for the bloke who thought David Mackay, one of the finest wing-halves these islands have produced, would ever make a decent sweeper should have been sacked in an instant!

Don't even get me started on our own young guns Lee Carsley and Paul Williams being shifted from RB to midfield and midfield to CB respectively, Rory Delap from RB to striker and Christian Dailly to the centre of defence.....

Didn't mean to touch a nerve Crewton.

However, I was hoping the club was moving in a direction where we develop a football philosophy right through the club, so that we school our youngsters in such a way that when called upon - most likely due to an injury or squad rotation, they are ready, and can fit smoothly into the first team, in what should already have been identified as their best position.

I realise that over recent years we've had no choice but to throw our best young players into the first team, in many cases just to make up numbers, also decimating our U21 squad, but let's hope those days are behind us.

Its like at work where those who have been there since students and show promise and loyalty never get the best work or jobs they want or decent pay rise but you must keep the new recruits happy and then the lovely students leave for a big pay rise and to do the work they want. Perhaps have done with it and play Cashin at CF and Bird as GK. sorry rant over

Playing Cashin up front, like a good old fashioned centre forward?

Now that's a great idea. We might finally pose a threat at set pieces ?.

Plus he'd certainly be a nuisance. Imagine the young lad from Everton playing off Cashin picking up the second ball?

Only Joking CBR, but I share your sentiments entirely.

I really don't understand why we don't keep developing our own young guns in the positions that they have always played. There is a reason why they stood out in the U21s.

I'd love to see a settled team at some point during this season (and for years to come) with Cashin, Bird, Knight and Sibley at it's core.

    We can only dream eh?

Anyone else staying in Blackpool for the weekend, I’ve worked out my itinerary. Friday morning drive to Claremont hotel all inclusive Friday Saturday check out Sunday. Saturday morning full English breakfast, about 12 o’clock walk outside and catch the tram to Fleetwood, pleasant street to London street £4.50 return. Walk the 70 yards to the Thomas Drummond Wetherspoon, partake refreshment then 16 minutes walk to the ground, take my seat, tell B4 to sit down, watch Derby win , tram back to hotel, celebrate ??

    If Carlsberg made weekends eh?

  10. Early days I know, but a win tonight could get us very near the top of the league, with two of the top six playing each other, and every other team above us playing away from home.

I'd be surprised if we finish top two, but disappointed if we're outside the top 6, and whilst people gave been saying that the teams we have played so far will be there or thereabous at the end of the season, I disagree. There are quite a lot of good teams and good sides in this division, but we don't play many of them in our first dozen or so games.

I don't expect any of the teams we have played yet to be fighting for the play offs, so we really need to be getting results against the Shrewsburys of this world.

A touch of class from Mendez-Laing after his goal today, acknowledging Barkhuizen's excellent assist.

I think these two are going to turn out to be the stars of this season. Already seem to have an understanding.

Keep these two fit, get Collins scoring, and this season could turn into one of the best for many a year.

This will reveal my technophobia/ignorance, so sorry in advance

but i tried to listen to the game the other day and the Derby app (I pay £5 a month for) says it doesn’t exist any more)

anyone tell me what’s going on/where it’s gone/where do I now listen to RD coverage when I’m out of the region?

    cheers

No idea about the monthly subscription I'm afraid, but i understand commentary of tonight's game is available on TalkSport 2.

  13. Reality check needed.

Let's face it. If he is not fit enough to start for us before the transfer window shuts, he won't go anywhere. Who on earth would take a player who isn't even fit, on loan or on a permanent.

I think unfortunately his Qatar World Cup ambitions are over, not because Derby are in the 3rd tier of English football, but because of his injury struggles.

He needs to get fit first, then worry about his international prospects later He's still young in football terms to have an international career.

If he can get fit soon, then stay fit, I'm certain that he could be the difference in League One. A fully fit Bielik for 30+ games this season would be massive.

If we then went up, with some momentum and a few more additions next summer, we would probably be playing in the upper half of the Championship, and he would no doubt work himself back into the Polish squad.

If we didn't go up, but he was a regular stand-out player, he'd stand a much better chance of getting a move to a higher division, and get himself back on the radar of the Polish manager.

  14. It's beeen a beautiful morning up here in Yorkshire. All you Rams fans heading up won't be disappointed (well not with the weather anyway ?).

Just a short train ride from Ilkley for me, so setting off shortly.

    Can't wait.

Start of a new era today. Hopefully a sustainable and successful one.

Then back to watch (on the TV) Derbyshire in the T20 quarter final later with a few beers.

Could be an excellent day all round!
