taffyram reacted to Gringo in My thoughts if I was David Clowes
The decision on Warne's future is a little way off being made yet, but putting myself in David Clowes position my thought process would be as follows.
The results have been poor and the performances worse, and the fans are going apoplectic, however being logical about this I need to not knee jerk into making a rash decision.
I may have underestimated the challenge facing Warne, but his previous track record in getting out of this division was excellent and I should trust my initial judgement, but if things don't improve the crowds will drop and that will be a financial and personal disaster.
The manager needs to understand how serious his and the clubs position is and he needs to be given a set of targets he has to hit to avoid the termination of his role these should be,
An immediate improvement in performances, team structure and tactics. 4 wins in next 10 games minimum No more stupid press interviews Crowds must not drop below 20,000, this should not be a problem if 1. is rectified Any fall into the relegation zone will be instant termination I have always found that people work best if they understand what is required of them and they know the owners expectations, I would suggest there have been conversations already and the bar man at last chance saloon is pouring a last drink.
I write this with having a reputation of being intolerant of poor performing subordinates and of course I might be wrong on this occasion.

I can't decide if the lack of an update on Bird is deeply concerning or an indication it wasn't as bad as it looked.

taffyram reacted to ziggazagga in Derby vs Fleetwood - Match Thread
This match last season was the start of the red flags for me. Warne took the players to Cheltenham races for some team bonding FFS, three days previously, turned up against Fleetwood thinking they already had 3 points. Went into half time 0-1 spent the first 15 minutes of the second half with the gang of three discussing subs that should have been made at halftime, whilst they were pissing around Fleetwood scored another. And then the usual panic, make 5 subs. I said to my son at the time he hasn't got a plan B and nothing has changed to this day. The gang of three cannot see the game unfolding and do not react, I suggest they study weigman and the lionesses to understand impact substitutions. Bird will go to Bristol city and cashin to Brighton and why wouldn't they, how are they going to develop as top class footballers with warnes brand of hoofball. We know they are better than that

Whether you like it not, I think there is zero chance of that happening.

Maybe he will do us all a favour and quit now..which may give a new manager a couple of weeks to sort the mess!

i would be worried if he WAS happy after spending 90 minutes watching the rubbish he put out

Really interested to see if it’s only me that’s gets the vibe from Warne s interviews ( last couple ) that he’s not to happy , apart from a few bad performances which can happen it just feels there’s something bubbling in the background, budget v expectation? Pressure cooker constant interviews and scrutiny ? Clowes is like us and a mad derby fan and more demanding than he comes across ( he outed liam quick smart ) ? maybe large crowds expecting more than Rotherham and showing displeasure ?
could be totally wrong but I’ve just got a feeling all is not well

Should he be immune forevermore? No of course not.
Were the "good budget" comments possibly unwise? Perhaps.
But is there anything to suggest that organisationally there is a problem on the ownership side? No.
We do not know the ins and outs of the EFL agreed business plan, but the very fact the EFL accepted it in lieu of enforcing their restrictions implies its de facto restrictions anyway.
Without knowing what friction may or may not be there behind the curtain between Warne and those above him and if there are any wrongs or just diffenences of opinion, I'm reluctant to take a side.
We're all just frustraited with a very poor start to the season, seemingly a poor transfer window and a complete lack of "good vibes".
We all want out of League 1, but the ownership have given Warne what should be sufficient tools to have a serious go at that and he appears to be making a hash of it.

The happy to have a club will soon wear off if we have another 21 oxford home games.

100% agree with you @The_Sheriff
The man has done everything to give us stability as a going concern. Business isn’t black and white, errors will be made and successes will be achieved in equal measure.
Just happy we have a club, despite some of the recent results over the last 8 months or so.

Depends how long people are wanting to watch mediocrity for in all fairness. Judging by recruitment so far this summer and where we sit with value for players to sell on we could be down in league 1 for another 3 seasons at least. Remember when the Americans owned us before MM and fans moaned about there lack of ambition could have the same bow to it.

We're a business, he's running us, so of course his decisions can be questioned. Not sure there is currently anything to blame though.

Warne seems very much to be in a traditional “manager” role where he, along with a couple of others (one of whom is his own right-hand man), are effectively running the whole football club. I’ve always been in favour of a director of football model and a clear identity running through the club that means changing managers won’t have a seismic effect on playing style, recruitment style, etc.
I also don’t think I’ll ever be convinced Stephen Pearce should be anywhere near the club, though it doesn’t wind me up as much as it does others.
I can’t really criticise the appointment of Warne. I thought it was a bold but good decision at the time. Though I’m certainly having serious doubts about him now. Even if he turns it around and we go up, I think there’s very little chance we end up pushing for the Premier League with him in charge - he just doesn’t seem to have the tactical nous and seems to struggle with pressure.

Clowes has made questionable decisions but he saved the club .
I’m very conficted at the moment .
I think we have to except the situation the club is in for now.

I think he did a great job in ensuring we have a club , but I don't think he has the spending power to get us out of this league. I feel we will all be forever grateful, but I think he should pass the baton to someone with serious wealth if possible, now it appears a lot of the debt baggage has gone surely we are a more attractive buy now than when we were in administration
I thought Ashley may have come back now we a stable

To clarify, what do you consider to be the modern and the better way of running a football club?
I don't think anyone should be immune from fair and measured criticism and I reckon DC would agree.
Appointing PW could be open to criticism but I don't know about the recruitment set up. None of us really know all the targets we've approached and, where appropriate, the reasons the signings didn't materialise.

My personal opinion is not to criticise clowes.
Hes the reason we have a club. Hes running it sustainably so we dont have this threat again.
Sure the decisions hes made may not pay off but thats normal in life and business.
-
taffyram reacted to alram in Should we be patient? If so, how does it improve?
i think the main thing is, you can feel patient if you see a plan developing or something building
what plan do we have? we look to have none at all, you could see is coming from a mile off based on our transfers this summer
the direction the club is going in is very worrying for me, it is going to be a long few years in this god awful division
