Sharp would have been great 10-15 years ago. Now he's an old poacher, past his best who doesn't like the club or its fans and for many the feeling is mutual. Why on earth would we think about signing him is beyond me.

If Warne will play this way for the rest of the season, we should sell Bird. He looked poor out there today because he's not suited to playing this style or in the role he was asked for, and my gut tells me he won't get any better than what we saw. Warne is turning us into a typical league one ugly crossing machine team, so I'm not sure where Max fits with that. Personally, I'd prefer to see the back of Warne and his cronies rather than sell off whatever players we've got left who can play in the division above but i know that won't happen until at least the midpoint in the season.

Wigan’s No8 was a young slightly built player making his 1st team debut. Bossed the game I thought.

And the last part is a very good way to view it, a mixture of stats, reflection and opinion will always be the best way to appraise a game. That being said I think there is a place for xG, it's far from perfect and like I said previously, I don't think it should be used on a game to game basis but more to look over a number of months, but it seeks to provide context to the provided statistics. You can't ever subjectively discuss how likely a chance is.

You don't just turn from a subjective source to an objective source over the course of a day. You still remain subjective in your opinions. What you're describing is acquiring the time to analyse your thoughts in greater detail, but that doesn't make you more objective. Rather, it puts you in a better position to put your thoughts together,  which is true for everyone.
As said before, XG is predicated upon a subjective evaluation of the 'chance' to score. Personally, when forming my opinions and taking into account those whom I value, I generally use a mixture of stats, reflection and expert opinion.

In fairness, and sorry I've quote-tweeted you 3 times in a row (I promise I'm not picking on you!) I believe the error was ultimately the result of a tactical problem. It came from Hourihane going to Nelson and Nelson playing as a WCB (which he looked totally uncomfortable as) passing back to Bradley, which left him as the only one there vulnerable to a press leading to the error. The play put Bradley in a position where he received a poor ball from a not-technically-gifted player in a role where you need to be technically good and Bradley without the legs and a lot of space and pressure coming at him made an error.

It's not an error you expect to see every week, no, but the tactical setup increases the likelihood of seeing those errors. Looking back at the second goal, we switch off for the throw-in and don't block the cross, but the tactical layout of the back line allows Wyke to give Wildsmith a choice to make leading to the error. Again, yes it's an individual error but the reason we didn't see Wigan make those errors is in part because they had a set up which nipped the chances of them to occur in the bud.

It's all cause and effect. I stated my thoughts on Bradley in my first point so not repeating them again.
What is more interesting is why did Bradley have to make that backpass in the first place at all from the halfway line when we had the ball in a promising position under no real pressure a third of the way into the opposition half.
As the chain of decisions from them led to Bradley being forced to make his error when in reality he should never have had to be forced to kick the ball back from the halfway line.
This is my exact point which you seem intent on overlooking - how he handled the pass is a moot point - why was he forced to make that pass and the events leading upto requires far more analysis.

It's one game, and it's important not to overreact, but that was fu**ing abject at every level. We were one-dimensional, slow, unfit, and worst of all we didn't even execute our own plan well. We gifted Wigan two goals, but every time they broke through the midfield screen, they looked dangerous and could have scored 3 or more today. Nelson looked uncomfortable on the ball, he isn't a WCB in a million years, constantly passing back, making us lose the initiative, and Bradley doesn't have the legs to cover the ground needed in the role he played today. That's what led to the mistake for the first goal, a negative pass which put pressure on Bradley which then led to a Wyke rounding Wildsmith.
Wigan killed us in the transitions, and there were gaping holes in the middle of the park, which any half-decent team would thread through. Seen towards the end of the first half but also early in the first half, which was an end-to-end show. But it wasn't just in defence and transition where we were poor. The attack was absolutely woeful. The lack of positive forward passing combined with the slow tempo and static movement made the crosses so so easy to defend against. I can't remember more than 2 times we actually tested their goalkeeper seriously.
It isn't just the performance that lacked passion, creativity, or decisiveness, but the tactics that led us to our downfall, failing to create any clear-cut chances and, at times, leaving us wide open. The lack of urgency towards the end and the dearth of options from the bench make it clear we're in no state to be challenging for promotion if this is the tenor of things to come. Warne said he wouldn't just copy what he did at Rotherham, but this style of football reeks of low percentage chuck it in the box and see what happens nonsense i.e., precisely what he did at Rotherham.
I don't think I've seen an opening day performance this bad since Paul Jewell's 08-09 opener against Doncaster. Warne needs to improve and fast if he wants to stay in this job.

Especially with the game Warne insists on playing. You can't play that type of football with a squad of 19 who have the oldest average age in the division.

This. I said it last season and it's true. You also can't play a pressing game with slow centre backs and slow to average CMs. You either leave space in CM or space behind you, you can't cover.
