They sound pretty loyal from the way they've reacted to criticism and comments about the possibility of him leaving.
I think Bellingham said he's more determined to win something for him if he stays because of how much he's helped him. And if he leaves he wishes him nothing but the best.
The usual PR nicey nicey response for a manager you don't believe in wouldn't be so specific. It would be all wishy washy stuff. Sounds to me like he's created something similar to what Lampard had at Derby. Which whatever we say about the football, it's a lot better than the lads on tour days of Sven?

Klopp is too committed to building a side to be interested. International manager requires a few key skills that are not needed at club level, and visa versa. Southgate had some of those, such as being able to manage the media and bring a team together quickly, building trust in all. He lacked some tactical nous but he also had done it as a player at this level so could talk with confidence about what the players were going through. Most successful international managers have this - Klopp doesn't.
I know I'll get pelters for this but I'd actually have either Rooney or Lampard in the role. I know neither has the greatest tactical ability but that's why you have assistants (Carsley?) and they know the media, they know the territory, they will inspire and lead.
One of Southgate's problems was that he didn't let his squads play to their strengths. You need less imposing of a system at international level - learn from the Dutch, Argentinians and Brazilians and just let the talent shine through.
I know, many of you will think I am an idiot but that's the burden geniuses (or maybe genii) like me have to carry. It is our blessing and our curse.

I worry that, as much as we might get a better manager, we might also lose some of the good things that Southgate brought to the table. The culture he developed was a great asset, and he was involved in every part of England FC. Would a Klopp get involved with the day to day running of st. Georges park, or would they just turn up when it’s game time?
But ultimately, I feel like it’s when you get a manager that does a great job of getting you through the leagues, from league 1 to the prem, and they are undoubtedly a club legend, already being measured up for a statue, but if you want to go to the next level, and your sat in mid table, thinking about European football, you might give them a shot in one season, but you’ll know it’s time to upgrade before you lose the momentum and end up as a mid table team forever. Thanks for memories, and all that, but we’ve out grown you.

I'm not sure how you link me liking getting to semis/finals (3 in 4 tournaments) to believing we were the 2nd best team in the Euros.
Southgate's luck deserted him in the last World Cup, when we "limped" out to France in the QFs.
Most teams who win tournaments have luck. Spain winning this one was an outlier as they were clearly the best team overall. They could have easily lost to Germany on pens though without that late goal, then we'd all be proclaiming Germany clearly the best team if they had beaten France and England well.
So much is based on ifs and buts in tournaments, yet everyone has their own boring opinion on how England just needed to play x instead of y and all would be rosy.
My main point though, was a change of manager will probably end up with us doing worse.
We tried a string of top managers who mostly turned out rubbish. Just like the myth of changing 2 players would make everything right, there is a fantasy that there is a manager right there to make us win things.
There is probably a 10% chance of this coming true. Knowing who could make this happen is impossible. The things that great club managers have are always going to be a struggle at international level. There are no times to implement involved systems and many attacking styles.
We have a manager who has most of the qualities to make England succeed in the febrile atmosphere of millions of opininated fans and a media desperate for controvesy and instant success.
We might be able to find a new manager that could improve a little on the playing side. History suggests finding someone who can deal with the toxicity of being England manager is unlikely.
The next manager will either by despised by the media/masses as they haven't been successful enough as a player, manager or celebrity (Carsley or Potter) or they will a laughing stock famous name like Gerrard or Lampard, that the media/masses will afford initial great respect too because they scored a lot of goals in club football.
Be careful what you wish for, we probably won't have it so good again for a long while.

I stopped short of saying that, because I didn't want to set hares running, but I agree. I imagine Spain could play many different ways successfully, but this one is both effective and a crowd-pleaser.

Well done Spain. Much the better team unfortunately. What great play from Cucarella for the assist. A fullback sprinting down the wing on 86 minutes is exactly the sort of positive play I'd love to see from England and the cross was slide rule perfect.
England's goal was great. We really needed to continue to apply the pressure afterwards, but we reverted right back to defensive football. It feels like we were playing for penalties at times in this tournament. I wouldn't mind if Spain had markedly better individuals, but they don't.
Overall Southgate's reign has been massively positive. It's the only period during my lifetime that England have had a genuine chance of winning anything. Yes, he probably should've got one of these tournaments over the line, but I don't really want to twist the knife right now.

Southgate has been outstanding as England manager and given us all some incredible memories.
His critics have been completely unwarranted for the past three tournaments where I think he’s barely put a foot wrong but all the age old criticisms of him have come true this summer.
2018 World Cup was spectacular, I remember thinking that might be the best it gets for many years, only to have us play brilliantly at Euro 2020 - people forget how well we played that tournament, we completely controlled games and Sterling/Kane were brilliant.
A lot of people point to that final and blame Southgate - it’s widely accepted that we should have gone for it more but it’s easy to forget when we went into half-time 1-0 up, we’d only conceded 1 goal all tournament. It didn’t work out but it wasn’t as mental to sit on that lead as people with the benefit of hindsight make it out to be.
I actually think the Qatar World Cup is the big what if for me, that team was absolutely flying and went toe to toe with France. There’s no shame in losing to them and on another day we easily might have won to go on to be the team facing Argentina in the final.
This tournament has been by far his worst but we still made it to the final. I will remember him extremely fondly but it’s time to go now, he’s lost a lot of the public and, despite having the best crop of English talent to date, we played considerably worse than we have in his tenure.
What he’s achieved with the England set up is incredible, I will miss the outstanding leader and statesman he is but it is time to go. He’ll be ready to move on after nearly a decade of putting up with the spotlight and I think he understands it’s time for someone else to have a go.
The people who think he’s the devil will also moan to high heaven when the FA appoint U21’s manager Lee Carsley.
I don’t think any of Howe, Mancini, Klopp (lol), Tuchel (lol) or Potter will be interested. Southgate’s critics forget that we can’t just grab one of these managers, they also forget that we’re dealing with the largely incompetent FA who’s last two actual appointments were Roy Hodgson and Sam Allardyce ffs.
Carsley’s done a fantastic job with the U21’s, won a tournament and done it playing tactically forward thinking football which got the best out of his squad.
Southgate came from the U21’s, as did de la Fuente, the experience you gain is clearly more transferable than management of a club side you get in training almost every day of the year.
Carsley is also someone you can sack fairly easily after the next World Cup if someone exciting is actually interested.

Many people think Southgate is all that is preventing us from achieving world domination, so they put a huge level of importance on the role of manager. With all the riches available to England in a football sense, it really should be possible to find an English manager who can run the national team. It feels a cop out to me to take a manager from another country because we can't produce our own.

Where's the risk? We know exactly what we're getting and he already got us promoted, didn't he? What value are folk attaching to that? Seems to me that he paid his own fee several times over before we even bid for him.
I also agree with @Will Hughes Hair's assessment; Ebou is not simply a water carrier and I'm not sure how anyone could watch him play and still arrive at that conclusion. For the direct and indirect benefits, £650k is buttons and Ebou will no doubt illustrate that point as soon as he's back on the Pride Park turf. I think this is one of the lowest risk deals we've made in decades and I suspect Clowes knows more about what he can afford and what our business plan can sustain than anyone on here, so perhaps we might give him the respect of supporting his calls until we've a reason not to?

Adams for £500k - £1 million makes perfect sense, in my opinion.
It’s the going rate for high performing players in League 1 and League 2. Adams has been a key player for two promotion winning sides in those divisions, so the track record is there to justify the outlay.
Personally I am taking it as a positive that we are spending money again. It’s a difficult balancing act between trying to be competitive and trying to be fiscally responsible, but I think we are trying to get it right.
Also, it’s still going to be on the modest side compared to the rest of the division, let’s not forget. Clubs further up the food chain and in receipt of parachute payments (Leeds, Burnley, Luton, Sheff Utd…) will likely be able to spend our entire budget on one player.
As for concerns over Adams’s ability to step up to the Championship, I think we have to remember he will have a specific job and role in the side and we will be looking to strike a balance and have players who complement each other and cover for each other’s weaknesses.
Are we expecting Adams to be a Championship version of Bernardo Silva or Kevin de Bruyne? No. Similarly, are we expecting Kenzo to be a Championship version of Amadou Onana? No.
If we let players do what they are good at rather than trying to overcomplicate it, why can’t Adams be a success at Championship level?

Another thing you have to give kudos to Southgate for is how he’s kept the squad players engaged.
How often do you see a fringe player like Watkins make such a jaw-dropping impact like that in the semi final of a major tournament? Southgate’s approach of “finishers” rather than “substitutes”, as cringey as it may appear on the surface, seems to have worked.

To be honest I don't really care about sell on value, I just want a team of good players who win football matches now.
