  1. Excellent race. But Field events experts, tell me why they employ a referee to raise a red flag when the bar falls in the pole vault? Why? You don’t need a flag to know that the bar has fallen. And they raise a white flag when the bar hasn’t fallen

Exactly my thoughts. He looks like a head it, kick it, block it defender who is unhappy with space behind him or when he has to use the ball.  Of course it's early days but so far he's looked an absolute liability - longer term I wouldn't expect him to turn out to be that but neither can I see him being the key player we hoped.

    Worked for Jack Charlton

We went to Stevenage last preseason.

Carlisle and Orient are new though.

Orient is my nearest ground. A lovely club whose members’ social club regularly wins CAMRA awards. When I occasionally go I often wear a Rams shirt and their fans usually start chatting. I remember seeing Harry Kane play for them on loan from Spurs and thinking “he’s rubbish” . Hmm not a good talent spotter

  4. I decamped from Derby for work reasons back in 1983 and after a couple of years living in an attic in Harley Street London, I moved to Upton Park and then where I am now, leafy Woodford Green. All this talk of Southerners and Northerners etc made me me think. Of all my mates and neighbours down here, there are very few actually born in London. They come from all over the UK, with a few from overseas.  None of them think of themselves as Southerners apart from one or two who were born dahn sarf.

I'd agree with all of that. Attitude and institutionalised attitudes take a long time to shift.

It's been a slow progress for women's football over a long timeframe. It's not come out of nowhere to be invented as thing by marketing but a lot of work over a lot of years has had to be done to bring the women's game to a point where it can't be ignored and dismissed and can be "sold" as legitimately professional level sports folks would want to watch for their entertainment.

I’ve been to quite a few women’s club football and it’s nowhere near the quality of women’s international football. Gates will always be low until quality improves

Think that's a pretty harsh assessment tbh. Keeper clanger, sure, but plenty of quality on show too.

Agree. I’ve been impressed by the quality of international women’s football. Alas cannot say the same about women’s club football

It's probably off everyone's radar with the season opening, F1 gone on holiday and ITV dropping it's option to cover live (to have the charity shield match on) but this weekend is the British round of MotoGP.

    And it's wet.

    Sprint could be carnage.

Hmmm Charity Shield? Is that the one that changed its name to Community Shield 21 years ago? 😄

  8. Agree with previous posts. Nigeria were unlucky and were definitely the better team. Just lacked the mental strength with the shoot out. And is it just me (probably) but did a lot of the commentary sound like Carry On type double entendres?

    “She’s a wonderful dribbler”

”Unlucky. She just couldn’t get on the end of it”

    ”She went down very easily”

”Oh she took that shot straight in her face”

But he doesn't capitalise his name which troubled me and gave me cause to worry he could be relatively stupid...

his relatives may well be stupid. But of course one of the best US poets never used capital letters and spelled his name

People criticise Mel Morris but at least he got transfers done - just throw money at it and worry about the accounting when you’re in the premier league

Of course it’s meant to be funny. Are posters on here so stupid as to think he was being serious?

I do keep reading that he used too sneak into games and grew up in Cheadle.  Far as I know he moved from Wales to Belper when he was 4 although his dad worked for a period in Manchester then became a publican in Derbyshire.  He probably supports Man City but I think big fan and sneaking into games maybe a spin since they became a bit more popular.

    Regularly seen at City games…..

And there’s lots of things that for no particular reason, really annoy me such as the stupid phrase “back in the day”, and when people are asked if they are ready, reply “as I’ll ever be”. Grrr. I need to have a lie down now

And don’t get me started on “from the get go”. Yes I know it’s a contraction of Get Ready, Get Steady, Go but what’s wrong with From the start, or from the off? Oops nearly spilled my Horlicks
