Because we should be keeping our best players.

And part of doing that is creating a playing environment where they want to be.

(I quoted you but my comment isn't aimed at you but all those who seem to be happy to see Bird go)

How? We are a league one side, with a moderate budget, a playing environment has very little to do with it for footballers nowadays sadly.

I'd love us to keep our best players but for any side in League one, selling your youth talent for money is what keeps you going, just ask Peterborough.

At this point, that's all we are and all we can be.

Tell me 1 fan that enjoys Warnes brand of football...after virtually every game, we have come away saying, "we got away with that"..or, "we won but the football was dire"

I want us to win and get out the division, I don't care how.

On occasion, we may have 'got away with it' but that's a lot less than the amount of times we have done what we had to to get the result.

I don't think Warne wants us to resort to playing the way we have to sometimes and you can see his frustration when we don't play the way he wants but I don't think they are capable of sustainable the high energy game he wants.

He's had to build an entirely different squad of players to play the way he wants and that gonna take more than the amount of windows he has had with the restrictions we have had.

Young, hungry, energetic players are costly so he's had to sacrifice some of his ethos to just get players that can do part of what he wants

If he gets us out of the division, and is able to bring in the players that suit him he'll keep us up I'm sure.... As for the next step after that who knows but I have confidence that he has the knowledge how to get us out of the division and for now.... That's all we need.... We have one aim, I genuinely don't care how we get there

Because Warne's brand of football doesn't suit Bird, ( or indeed Hourihane)...or any other talented midfield player....or for that matter, most of the fans!

Well, perhaps that's because the fans seem to think that we are in the championship, near the top and should be playing McLaren era football.....

We arent, we are in League One and we are fighting to get out, and Warne, like it or not has us very near the top of the table with a very good record over the last quarter of the season.

I'd love for us to play like we did with Russell and Thorne and Ward and Martin, all of those players but sadly that's not gonna get us out of that league and sadly we can't afford those players nor will they want to play in league one even if we are Derby County.

Quality players will impact games within a coaches instruction.... I don't know where everyone seems to get this kick and rush idea from but that isn't how we play, look at the stats, Bird and Hourihane have more than enough opportunity to influence the game from where they are.

They still take corners (occasionally badly) and they still have shots at goals (occasionally badly) and they still pass the ball (occasionally badly) all of which are midfielders bread and butter no matter the formation or the league or the instruction.

The payers we have are not held back by Warne, they are just not quite as good as they were, playing in a side that isn't as good as it was, in a league that's full of pressing and tackling and chasing.

Bird is a quality player, is young and I think will be much better in a championship side, it's a shame it won't be with us but I can't blame him, he's stuck with us through pretty much everything and deserves his shot, there's no guarantees in football so go while you can.

Best midfielder at the club. Leaving as won't sign a new contract. Good fee. Keep the player for the rest of the season.

He came through the ranks, stood by us when we were on our arse, does his best, good egg arond the place, getting a bigger wage in a higher division, club doesn't lose out.

Max Bird comes out well, Derby County come out well.

Moaners, please shush. I'm embarrassed by you.

Absolutely this, win win all around it seems!! Not sure why anyone is upset?!

The attitude of some folks on here is beyond me, and how Warne is at fault is also beyond me, he's pretty much played Bird every single game he could.

How everyone can twist everything to be the managers fault is beyond me

But to be fair they looked like they couldn’t be bothered with being there…

Why is it that the U21s never seem to be happy when they score, I've noticed it on a few highlights like they jus barely celebrate and it's like , yeah, I scored then they trudge back to the halfway line

Is it so etching they are told like don't celebrate until the job is done or something??

It was a diversion from his own poor tactics, pre-season, recruitment and team selection.

If I was Bird I'd be in his office in the morning demanding an apology.

I mean it wasn't at all, clearly you missed or decided to ignore the part where warne admitted it was his fault in terms of tactics and him not getting the message across as well as he could??

I'm not saying he should have said it but he said a few players and it could affect the way they play as he was vastly disappointed in their abject display

You realise that the defences in League One tend to be better at marking than the defences in the Northern Premier League Premier Division & National League?

tbf I'm sure he will get a decent amount from Ward's balls throughout the season, but gloating about him scoring against teams 2-4 levels below is a bit weird.

Hardly gloating, just pointing out to those who say he doesn't do any of those things, that he clearly can.... I don't think he's a world beater but some of the comments about his lack of ability have been frankly disgraceful

Then don't say anything, building expectations if you can't deliver isn't particularly wise. I'm not really digging Warne out, there just seems to be a disparity between what we're aiming to do and who we're signing.

Of course the Rhodes thing could be false and this could be complete conjecture; something is just slightly irking me about being told we're aiming for 23-28 year olds, the main position we're targeting is a striker, and then signing a 33 and 31 year old in that position...

But that's kind of my point..... I'm sure what Warne SAID he wants is true, but getting it is another matter

We probably ARE aiming for that and he is only being honest, what's he supposed to say.... Well actually OB what well be signing is a fe journeymen, it's all were gonna be able to get but hopefully they'll be alright?? Yeah cos that wouldn't have sent the forum into meltdown would it? Lol

    Will Ferrell Lol GIF

Glorious post. Almost hope we stay down another year for more of these beauties.

I know right? Weve only signed the captain of a championship promotion winning side, a former League two player of the year (only one season ago) a former League one team of the year full back, a championship centre half with over 300 games experience and championship striker with international experience .

Fecking awful that for League One, diabolical!! 🙄🙄🙄

If this happens, Warne needs to come out and clarify his age comments. As soon as McGoldrick left, we thought a #9 would be our main priority this season, combined with the comment about wanting players in the 23-28 age bracket, it was fair to assume we were aiming for our marquee signing to be a #9 in this mould.

If we then start the season then with our youngest striker being 31, that would be disappointing, but only because of what Warne said which has built expectations a bit...

Warne actually doesn't need to to do that.... Because you know what, he's the manager, we're the fans.... Our job is to support the team, no matter who is wearing the shirt ... Just like we did and have done so well the last few years.

This isn't aimed directly at you mate specifically but people need to realise that we are in the 3rd division, yes we might have a budget now, yes there are all these players on a free but has anyone considered that these players might be holding out for better offers.... For more money than we are prepared, not able, to pay? Or maybe they are all idiots who will upset the dressing room, we don't know.

Yes warne said he wanted the side to be younger, yes he said he wanted more pace, I'm sure he'd like to sign exactly what he knows he wants but football isn't like that.

I'm sure Warne _wants_ what he wants and he's forced into telling us all this info because the fans clamour for every bit of info nowadays but you know what, maybe he can't get what he _wants_.

He shouldn't be dragged over the coals for getting what he thinks will do the job even if it's not who he really wants...

He's got promotion fron this league what is it, three times? I think he is better placed to judge than us.

  12. If you email them they just say do you want us to cancel the sub, which is pretty pointless as I'll want it back in August

I accept that it's my choice to maintain it through the off-season but I really don't understand why they aren't included as there can't be any rights issues surely?

This same moan happens every single season.

It's your own fault for not cancelling your Rams TV subscription for June & July.

    And it's a fiver a game 🙄

But why should I have to pay a fiver a game if I'm a subscriber?

  14. 14 minutes ago, Blondest Goat said:

Don't know.   I just think it's fair enough to assume that if you are paying the monthly subscription you would be entitled to watch every game that RamsTV streams.

Absolutely, surely pre season games aren't exclusive rights by anyone other than the clubs themselves, it's not like they are buying the feed as it's gonna be shown on Sky!!!

  15. So, I've just seen that all the preseason games are going to be on RamsTV!!! Brilliant, as a subscriber that makes the 20 quid in June and July (almost) worth it..... But wait....

Nope, Pre-Season games aren't included so I'm paying 20 quid to watch precisely nothing in July even though there are 5 friendlies!!

I know, I'll cancel this month and pay the 4 PPV prices ... Ahhh yes sorry we've already taken your money this month 2 days ago before we announced the news!!!

    Absolutely shocking behaviour IMHO

We didn't really buy stars, we bought ones we thought might become them and it didn't really go to plan. We did have Stimac which tied it together and needed Asanovic the following year or we'd really have struggled.  It's getting the right ones that's the key.

I'd argue that Stimac was the final piece in the puzzle. Players brought in like Rowett, Van der Laan, Powell all became Premier League players and before that season Sturridge had done nothing so the additional of Solid professionals with a sprinkling of star power in Stimac and Willems was the key.

It seems to me that we are doing the same here, not big names but players that are well suited to this level and then the 'big' name which hourihane still is and potentially someone coming in should give us a much better base than last year which was oldies and youngsters with very little experience of this division

Top work mate, I love all three..... Please get a job at Umbro working exclusively with DCFC lol

If I'd have just one gripe it's that I'd like the collar on the home to be more Polo style with the gold and white trim

I never mentioned shots/goals from headers. Warne's style is to 'mix it up', which includes going long and battling in the air. Having May in the side reduces the effectiveness of going long.

You do realize that the chances are he won't be the only striker we'll sign?

Not saying it's just you but everyone seems to think it's all our eggs in the one basket.

We were crying out for someone last year to come on and he a danger in the box, If we got Dobbin back for pace, may for around the box, didzy for outside the box and Collins or maybe even a replacement for the rough stuff you mention, that would be a decent Frontline, plus I expect us to bring in some bigger muscle into midfield and defence.
