I think this was another of those fights that was seen as a foregone conclusion but as you pointed out, the old warrior hadn't read the script. Kelly is young and perhaps there's still a big career ahead for him, but he needs to understand that trying to box like Prince Naseem only makes sense you you have BOTH his speed and his power. I'm far from convinced Kelly has either. He needs to focus on the basics for me and try to be the best version of himself he can be, not a facsimile of someone else.

As for Avanesyan, he's earned himself another decent pot somewhere in the future and I have to say his after-fight presser was absolutely joyous. Try watching this without smiling ?

    Haha!

I wanted Kelly to win but can't deny watching somebody come in to play a role and them tearing up the script is quite satisfying.

I completely agree about Kelly too. Might have to knuckle down and earn those world titles rather than expect them to land in his lap. Some fighters out there aren't going to be easily frustrated about chasing shadows. They're experienced enough to battle through and wait for an opportunity.

This is what makes me laugh about Povetkin. He's always seen as some hard nut that's not serious about winning world titles and has had his day in the sun. How many times does he have to prove he's there to win and has as much heart as any young lion.

If Whyte doesn't fight the best fight of his career he will get done again imo

DIY SOS - The Big build.

I've started tearing up before they've even kicked the unfortunate family out these days.

    Life affirming feel good TV.

    Yeah, I embarrass myself everytime.

    Stupid program.

I saw rounds 6 to 10 but wasn't really paying much attention to it.

I'm relatively new to the sky boxing coverage and Johnny Nelson is excellent. Adam Booth was good last night as well.

They managed to give him a comfortable victory when if any comfortable victory it would have been the other way.

It was a close fight but there's no way Barrett edged so many rounds. The scores were wide

Can't get past his druig cheat history though. Devalues his achivements. IMO.

It definitely will haunt his legacy.

He's such a complete fighter I don't know why he would need any of that Mexican contaminated meat.

I always think Smith can do more. Every fight I see him in I think he's kind of lazy.

  5. Easy win for Canelo. Smith never got in the fight.

Canelo won't lose to anybody for a few years. He can pick and choose his fights now and of the weights he operates in there's nobody that can beat him. GGG the biggest threat but he had 24 rounds to KO Canelo. He's a legend in his prime. Anyone seen him look hurt or wobbled?

Tend to agree, Canelo in 8 for me.

I heard it was free to view at 4am, but not sure which channel it is on.

5 live has it on radio I think.

Measuring the fight by the time its on and I'll probably catch this on YouTube or something tomorrow.

I think it will be pretty much one way traffic.

  7. I think Canelo by ko. I think Smith is slightly overrated. He's a solid boxer with a big physical advantage. I don't think that size will be a problem to Canelo at all and he's going to throw so many more shots and variety of shots to win on points if it goes that far. He also has a steel jaw

I have seen a lot of people say "People are writing Smith off but...". I've seen more people say that than actually write Smith off

But they're basing it on Smith being better than people think. Which he is. But he's facing a fighter that's a legend. Being good isn't enough. It will be easy for Canelo imo because Canelo is in his prime and is great.

  8. I agree both fighters are judged differently but I don't think it needs levelling by hammering Tyson Fury

See the messages AJ sent Eddie Chambers?

People feck up. Say stupid stuff. All of us

In my eyes it's two great champions and two good guys. Very different but both inspiring and both men will be in their hardest fights so far.

  9. Have to disagree with most of what you said about Fury as I'm a big fan (as I am of Joshua) and he says a lot of things that resonate with me.

As for the fight i just think its a great match. Both have shown weakness and strengths and have also shown they can adapt.

Both have made hard fights look easy and easy fights look hard. Neither are flawless.

I think the only reason Fury's weakness isn't spoken about is down to how, let's be honest, he's not the man to beat. I personally would put money on him rather AJ but AJ has the better CV, has the belts and is the #1 imo. 0L's are overrated in the sport.

I don't think either is overrated. They're are no other HW's to place above them.

Can't be doing with Frank Warren at all, but I think Tyson will force things through if Warren starts putting the fight at risk. One of the reasons the fight is so intriguing is that both fighters are thinking in terms of legacies. Neither really needs the money anymore, though of course it's a factor and neither really seem to be 'what if' kind of guys. I also think it'll be Tyson's swansong.

Please Lord don't let it be a manufactured trilogy - one fight, one winner and one amazing night for British boxing - is that too much to ask for?

Mate, it will be a 2 fight deal at least. You can bet on that. One abroad to the highest bidder. Eddie needs a new yacht

It's interesting as I think until tonight, a lot of fight fans would have thought that Tyson's superior ring craft would mean he would most likely prevail, but AJ has taken his medicine from the first Ruiz fight, so to speak, and we now have a meaner, more focussed and immeasurably more technical fighter on our hands. I thought Ruiz 2 was an improvement but last night, for me, was streets ahead of anything I've seen from him. I've never seen him so calm and ruthless. That right hand to end it was almost casual!! I'm now buzzing for the Fury fight. Let's hope politics and greed don't rob us and Hearn delivers as promised.

I think the only stumbling block will be Frank Warren and Bob Arum's egos that they want to present the show. Frank will make it as awkward as possible because holding onto Tyson's ankles is his only real income

I’m an extremely casual boxing fan, but even I can’t wait for AJ vs Fury. It will be great, won’t it?

It will be epic. Absolutely epic. They need to delay Usyk. This fight held in the UK would be like the world Cup or Olympics.

2 great champions, closely matched fighting for undisputed while boxing is at an all time high. 2 great characters too. Different but both inspirational.

The best AJ has looked for ages. He had the mean streak in him tonight but also retained the control that saw him box around Ruiz in Saudi. As for Pulev, the bloke is a nutter.

I love AJ's nasty streak. I'm glad he's taken some hate and he doesn't hide his nastiness so well now. He's a thug turned pro boxer at the end of the day and people expect these guys to be perfect. Now, just like Fury, he fights to please himself.

    A treble uppercut!!! wtf!!?

Switched off buddy - what happened?

AJ went over to the corner and there was some talking. Then AJ suddenly reared up and clearly left the corner with half a mind to get involved.

He was then agitated all the way through the interview and back to the changing room. Even stopping to give a Pulev poster a quick punch. Looked fuming.

You know Joshua, he has a real nasty streak in him and I don't think he's been this animated since the Whyte war.

Fair enough Pulev shouldn't meekly accept defeat but just shake hands and be frustrated privately. If he coulda then he woulda.

  15. Pulev has AJ raging. Thats a bad reaction from a fighter to be carrying on. It should stop at the final bell. They both gave it everything, it wasn't your night, take your frustration back to Bulgaria and recharge
