Last time I went I wouldn't say the doctor was enthusiastic but when the report came back it said I needed two fillings and a crown.

No bigger a knobber than than Piers Morgan, Julie Hartley Brewer or many others. And the bit that is really strange that it's his views on migrants that cause issue. No challenge to Jeremy Vine and his views on cyclists, Marc Riley and his view on animal rights, Dan Walker and his views on Piers Morgan. When governments start directing what personal views media personnel can express then maybe Gary was nearer than he expected to be in his analogy with places like 1930s Germany.

As others have said, Lineker doesn't work for the BBC so really not sure what the government is trying to achieve. I'm convinced the Beeb have shone a light on this to show the pressure it is under, and it has worked.

When I was in my early thirties I went out with this girl a lot younger than me, we had quite a long term relationship actually. The age difference didn't worry me but people did used to comment, say horrible things like I was a paedo, I should find someone my own age etc. I remember one time, I was 31 at the time and she was 19, we went to this restaurant and this woman came up and said, out loud and in front of everyone, we should be ashamed of ourselves. It was really sad, totally spoiled our tenth anniversary dinner.

I remember the play off final against WBA, Tyrone Mears made not one but two inch perfect tackles on Koumas and, iirc, Kamara. Both were well inside the box and both of them, watching it live, I was convinced were penalties. Neither were given and, watching it back, both were excellent refereeing decisions. We can do it, we don't always need technology as the solution but we just need good refs. And when we have good refs players will learn that simulation and diving (inside the box or elsewhere) has no benefit. There will always be players who over react to gain advantage (Franny Lee anyone) but the Plymouth one was playing to the letter of the law and not the spirit of the game. Only when refs focus on the latter as the driving force of their decisions will things change.

BBC are to talk to Gary Lineker about his tweets. What people say outside the workplace, on their own personal accounts, as long as it is not discriminatory or abusive, is completely their own business - no matter what it is that they say. Particularly if they are completely unrelated to the capacity in which they are employed (e.g. Laura Kuennsberg talking about football). And if you have a problem with media stars using social media then you put it in their contract that they are not allowed to have a personal account. But you don't selectively speak to one person just because what they say irritates people in high places.

I'm happy for Lineker to stop tweeting politics if Morgan stops tweeting football.

What is interesting for me on this thread is the number of people who still think it's OK to make a joke / comment about doing the ironing, cleaning etc. I know they think it's funny and, maybe, it is but it just shows that the original point made is not without some likely justification. Imagine if the original post had been about disabled children, do you think there would have been flippant comments in the thread mocking disability? Do you think the comments would have even been left up if that had been the case? And no, I'm not saying being a woman is a disability - you know I'm not - I'm saying that for all our supposed desire to see this from all sides there is still a lot of work to be done by both ourselves and those institutions where we gather, such as Pride Park, to help us along.

I agree, not that I am being reeled in, but that the risk is that the 'leftie brigade' (of which I am probably a lifetime honorary member now) just sit on the sidelines and spend their lives being shocked and horrified at everything. It's the easiest game in the world to play and the weak point of how we fix stuff like this. At the same time, I do stand by the point that there is no smoke without fire in the original post (even if maybe it could have been framed around something a little more constructive and interesting than one Tweet from one fan).
