generally all busy towns/cities that are diverse and multi-cultural are dumps.

Pretty loaded comment but let's discuss.

Causality? Correlation? Coincidence? Migrant populations naturally move to places where manual labour is going to be available. Places where factories and manual labour is prevalent tend to be less affluent but not because migrants work there. So, like so many cases where diverse communities are highlighted, it is the reasons behind that drive the correlation and they are not the cause.

Also, I agree with @Crewton - go to Whitehaven, Hartlepool or Scunthorpe and you'll see somewhere far from diverse and pretty undesirable as a location.

  2. There's a huge difference between living somewhere and going there on a short break. I think Blackpool is crazy fun for a couple of days but you couldn't pay me enough to live there. Portsmouth, with the naval museum and refurbished shopping area by the Spinaker is actually a really interesting place to visit, but again I'd live in a hundred places in the UK before it.

Undeniably, Derby suffers from inner city decline but then so does every single town or city in the country. It's our changing way of living, the influx of shopping malls and move to online purchasing. I live near Stratford Upon Avon, even they have so many closed shops it is sad to behold. If they can't make a go of the visitor economy then nobody can.

  3. Loved that Usyk said afterwards he has been training for this fight since 2008 - that's the focus he has that others don't. You can't buy it and it has served him as well as his exceptional technical ability.

Now watched some of the fights. Ref the bookies, no, it's winning favourites that give them migraines. Not wildly surprised myself, though I did expect Cordina to win and win well.

As for the main event, Usyk a comfortable winner for me. Didn't look to me like Fury fancied it too much, to be honest and I found his constant goofing a bit low rent tbh. You'd think he might then show a little respect after the fight, but no, he claims he was robbed instead. Man's an eejit. At least that'll be the last we hear from his moronic dad for a while. Silver linings.

It was interesting the straight left that Fury took in, iirc, the 5th. I think it probably busted his nose but you saw him step back and think "hold up, I'm supposed to do that". From that moment he realised, I wouldn't say he didn't fancy it but he knew that Usyk could bang.

As an aside, interesting comments from Del Boy on the count. I don't think Fury was out out, he was buzzed but we've all seen him get up from them. Also it was late in the round so maybe a few seconds didn't matter that much. But the 'slow count' is a thing now, I've seen it in a few fights - refs give the count then ask them to put up their gloves, ask them if they are OK, look at them again, ask again. And all of a sudden a fighter has had 20 seconds to clear their head. We know why they do it but should a count be a count? Otherwise, what's the point.

  5. Undercard was good after all that. Cacace vs Cordina was the pick of the bunch, great case of just who wants it that little bit more. Saw weakness in Opetaia that I've not previously witnessed, maybe not the unstoppable beast some have him down for.

I don't know why Sugar Hill and Andy Lee are in the corner. Not when you have a coach like Big John with all his experience shouting orders. You need to get rid of these wannabe clowns with their proven track record.

It was utterly embrarrassing wasn' it? If I was either of those two I would only take the rematch on the explicit condition that Pops stays away from the corner. You just can't do your work when he's bellowing in his lad's ear that he's got this in the bag.

How can Fury think he won that.  He was well beaten.  No chance.

How can one of the judges think Fury won that? Even the third judge thinks only the knock down seperated them - it's just amazing. Fury was good, he fought well, but I just can't even think of the story you need to put together to suggest he won, or cam close to winning, that fight.

BTW - October will be the same again, Usyk has his card.

I don't remember that, but I do remember Paul Williams keeping goal against Bristol City after our goalkeeper got sent off, Steve Sutton I think. He let a fair few goals in though!

Also remember Robbie Savage in goal after Bywater went off injured and Deeney got sent off.

Best outfield goalkeeper performance I remember was Man City against Derby when Niall Quinn took goal and saved a Dean Saunders penalty back in 1991. Quinn scored earlier in that match too. Derby got relegated that day.

And I guess we can close the thread of 'best outfield performance by a goalkeeper against Derby' with one word. Pooooom!

  9. Weigh in, for once, was interesting. Usyk coming in heavy, will be tire and lose speed and agility? Fury coming in light, shows he's up for it.

Fury going bananas as well, Usyk looked like he didn't quite know how to react, a bit like the face off. Just like the Batman costume, even if it counts for little on the night, Fury is so good at the pre fight mind games.

What happens if you're a younger man with a full sleeve that will become a middle aged man with a full sleeve?

    Asking for a friend

Thank you, this is not a reply, it is a clarification. Then the tattoo ages with you and it's OK - it's the ones with all the new ink that bothers me, trying to be what they are clearly not. It's a bit like me going and getting a broccoli haircut - certain things are for certain generations and heavy tattooing is for yours, not mine.

Haven’t watched the new episode, but the first episode of series 9 was brilliant

It's a strange old programme as many don't agree on which episodes are the best. I thought the first was a OK, the second was terrific. I guess that's the way it goes when you are making programmes outside the norm.

My fading memory recalls a great shot stopper but a bit weak on crosses. I could be completely wrong. Goalkeepers generally got POTY in those days because they were so busy and the rest of the team, except the magnificent Steve Buckley (obviously), was complete dross!

I was about to give you a bit of a challenge that you forgot Dave Langan but he left the season before Banovic arrived.

  13. Humans are a vile, self-serving and heartless species. Whether it is corruption, war, climate change, biodiversity, plastic or inequality we are unable to think beyond personal benefit and manage to ignore the suffering they cause to others. Ultimately, it will prove the demise of modern civilisation, maybe not in our lifetime but the end position is all but guaranteed as they are simply too many routes to if for them all to be avoided.

There, that light enough for you.

  14. Inside Number 9 continues to amaze in the quality of content they can push out nine series in. Last night's (The Trolley Problem: S9E2) was excellent.

If anyone is still not up to speed I was on a really boring Teams meeting this morning and pulled out my top ten episodes across all series (I pretty much think I have seen them all).

    1. A Quiet Night In
    2. Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room
    3. The Referee's A…
    4. Lip Service
    5. The Trolley Problem
    6. Love's Great Adventure
    7. The 12 Days Of Christine
    8. Once Removed
    9. To Have And To Hold
    10. A Random Act Of Kindness

    Good undercard too!

Which ones would you recommend? I don't have the knowledge you have but only the Opetaia / Breidis fight really jumped off the page for me.

Jack Taylor 1976 FA Cup Semi final v Manure when Dave Nish chipped the ball over the defence and ran on to score when the game was 1-0 but disallowed for a mystery player who was supposedly interfering with play.
Roger Milford in the play off final v Fester not giving a blatant foul on Martin Taylor for their equaliser and letting Steve Walsh and co kick our players all over the park .

Nish: eight Derby players offside in a line, pretty hard to suggest at least one of them was not interfering with play. Harsh one, but it was hardly the worst decision ever.

Walsh: agreed, but both Harkes and Johnson missed complete sitters that day plus Jossie should have cleared. Shouldn't have mattered.
