Season 2022/23, Hourihane 44 league games, 7 goals, 10 assists. He was fourth in League 1 for chances created and fifth for assists. Not bad going for someone you describe as "either poor or bang average" in most games.

His lack of pace is a significant weakness in his game fortunately. I say fortunately because if he was quick he would still be playing in the Premier League and we wouldn't be lucky enough to have him at Derby.

Oh, before I forget, he already has two goals and two assists this season.

He's nowhere near Premier League quality it's not just pace it's physicality it's composure , it's alot of things some times he will just f****** hoof the ball straight up into the air instead of controlling it. He's a CM goals and assists are a bonus but alot of them are set pieces and you need more than that to be a good Cm we could have Charlie Adam playing for us now and he'd get plenty of assists from corners. You need to be able to do more than he does to be a good player,he's not even great on the ball he will do a great pass and then something crap just as often.

If anyone watched all the games and thought he was class and a great player most games then they mustn't know much about football.

Hourihane was so crap last season that he was Derby's only representative in the EFL team of the season 2022/23. Sorry, but you are so wrong in your assessment of him.

That team was clueless anyway, he had some good games and scored a fair amount but most games he was either poor or bang average and he didn't get around enough and do enough defensive work +has inconsistent passing .I would have sold him in the summer ,not made him captain.Him and Collins were weaker players in our line up last season.

  3. Southgate is a waist coat w***** , I'm not a big fan of Warne but dislike Souhgate as a manager so much I would rather have Warne as England Manager.

Why play Henderson he's slow lacks creativity and is nowhere near good enough to start never mind as an 8 in the same midfield as Rice ,almost like he's secretly Scottish sent as agent McSouthgate. We should play 4231 with Rice and Bellingham in a double pivot and play a high press.

    Like this :

                   Pickford

Walker Stones (when fit) Tomori Shaw

                  Rice  Bellingham

    Saka           Foden.      Rash/Grealish

                          Kane

Rubbish, absolutely nothing to do with it, Clowes wanted experience

Really? So you think if Collins could hit a barn door and we actually won the games we should have first few away from home and were about 4th place he would have gone? No chance.

  5. Silver is a better long term investment to store value than Bitcoin as its safer, a tangible asset and will be in demand in the future because its needed in renewable energy technologies.  I don't have the knowledge but lots of things like alcohol, paintings and rare watches can be used as a more safe store of value with less margin for a quick profit but alot more safe.

So Bolton were bottom of the league as well? And let's not pretend our good football was just individual brilliance. It wasn't. There are patterns of play there. Where it has all gone I don't know but I believe it will be back this season.

It's gone with Mcgoldrick,  his touch and linkup play along with Mendez Laing down the wing were all we had for creativity really.

Think it’s too easy to pile in on Collins. LR was the one who signed him.

I don’t recall anyone having a mare but Knight’s misses vs Charlton and Fleetwood stick in the mind. Probably stopped a decent start becoming a very good one.

Unless it was absolute amateur hour behind the scenes, hard to really say why he deserved replacing. Being outplayed by Lincoln and Plymouth and the fan reaction to both probably lost him his job, we looked alright other than that.

Collins missed loads of chances in away games which is why we had the 0-0 games was a s*** signing him and Washington are no better than Burton level strikers from recent seasons.

A lot is made of Rosenoir's away form, unfairly in my opinion (Deserved more against Charlton, Shrewsbury and Fleetwood).

But won 4 out of 5 at home, only losing to the eventual champions and beat a Championship side in the cup

Thought it was a mistake to get rid at the time, and yet to be convinced otherwise.

If we didn't have Collins upfront and Mcgoldrick was fit from the start of the season he wouldn't have been sacked,Collins being a donkey lost him his job.

Yes, we have to accept that it will take time. Success might not come under Warne or possibly even Clowes, but we have to hope that at some point there will be something that ignites a spark for the clubs resurrection to begin. Look at Luton Town and Coventry City, both had to come back from dark places but have really achieved something in the past few seasons. Our club just needs to find that winning formula at some point.

We're abit bigger than f****** Luton Town. We're not a mega big club but let's not forget who we are and where we came from.

David Clowes saved our club, but we're still not free of the restrictions caused by administration. We are currently an artificially reduced club. Our turnover, fanbase and history should feed into increased revenue with sponsorship deals and TV appearances. If we'd just been relegated, we would be able, given the right management, to dominate this league.

The problem is that we had 5 players, very few academy players capable of stepping up and serious restrictions on our finances and recruitment.

Thanks to hard work and commitment from David Clowes, Liam Rosenior and Paul Warne, we are now at a point where we are a 'normal' club again. We have a full squad and the academy has been strengthen. But don't be fooled. We're still not a big Championship club about to boss our way out of League 1.

The calls for passing football are, IMO, naive. You only get promoted by playing passing football if you have a squad full of high quality players that are simply too good for the rest of the division. The restrictions which we've been under have meant that the rebuild has had to be cheap. Quality players aren't cheap. The only way this squad is getting promoted is with spirit, fitness, organisation and pragmatic football. It doesn't matter if we replace Warne tomorrow - trying to pass our way out of this division with this squad would be a disaster.

I'd also argue that Warne hasn't had any quality academy players to include, so criticising him for not playing them is difficult to justify.

At this point we need a pragmatic manager. If we replace Warne it will be with someone similar. The restrictions have forced us to build the squad this way and it is logical to give this type of squad this season and next to try for promotion. If that fails, then it will be time to review and maybe bring in a manager who will rebuild with expensive passing players and academy products. By that time the restrictions will be long gone and the size of our club should enable us to be more dominant in the transfer market.

Oxford played us off the park with great passing same with other sides and they have smaller budgets than us. Our finances are no excuse for poor recruitment and poor tactics ,how much are Washington and Bradley on? Bradley is s**** and Washington bang average same with Wilson, and Nelson and these players aren't on pittance. Collins is another who is stealing a wage at times,it's just not having a good scouting set up and poor decision making.

  11. Clowes also has some blame for appointing Warne when we had Rosenior at the club now we get agricultural non league football combined with poor tactics and a failure reaukts wise as well .He was stupid enough to give him 4 years so will have to pay his contract out soon enough as well unless Warne walks out. No I will get flack because he is god on here but Clowes made a poor decision .

Hmm, a local owner with more money willing to spend silly money. Like Mel?

Doesn't have to be local can be a Russian Oligarch just someone who will invest enough to make the club be able to compete with the likes of Bournemouth and Crystal Palace again.

We will never establish ourselves in the Premier League which has to be the aim without significantly more investment and more than Mel could afford as well. If you have an owner with 500mill net worth that's not even rich for the Premier league you need to spend and spend smart or just be like Luton or us when we were last there and get our ass handed to us. In football money doesn't guarantee success but with how things are not enough money does guarantee mediocrity.

We really missed the boat in 2013/14. In another universe, Derby beat QPR, Thorne doesn’t get injured in pre season and we easily stay up with Thorne, Hughes and Hendrick forming a comfortable PL midfield.

Who knows where we'd be now though? Maybe midtable championship or still league 1 after relegation and financial issues. Eventually we will get there, need to get to championship first then get a new owner with more money to take us to next level as we could be like a Preston always in midtable if don't invest with the championship being tough at the top. Possibly could get to Prem without spending alot but it's hard to do anything in the Prem without decent funds to buy players for 10+mill and offer 70k+ a week.

I know people will jump on the negativity but I’m just so jealous of those teams who are set up to quickly move the ball across the floor. Instead we get kick and rush.

31% possession, only shot on target is the penalty and their keeper hasn’t had to make a save. I wasn’t expecting us to win today, or even draw but games shouldn’t feel this one sided against us in the third division.

Warne thinks he's still at Rotherham, would give him until October and if we are not in the top 6 and playing poorly I'd get him gone.

We might win today but its far from convincing, next few home games are big.

Took you so long to type this rubbish he’d scored before you could press post

Was behind as I said in the edit and scoring a pen doesn't go against what I said what so ever,he can score another 2 pens and my point would stand. Not rubbish at all.

    Hourihane is looking slow today.

When does he look fast? His legs have gone ,he plays like a 36 year old. Don't want him in the side even if he has a good shot and some ability on the ball.

Edit- haha was behind and type this as he scores 😂 still would want someone more box to box ahead of him though.

Who in the league is as strong as Ipswich and Plymouth? You can’t really compare to two sides that aren’t here now. Waghorn looks a class above at this level, which we need to remember is significantly worse than the championship.

I don’t see the 6 teams better than us on paper, I’m hard pressed to find two. Bolton and Blackpool are comparative with regards to ability, but that’s it for me.

Oxford for me, their midfield was alot better than ours at Pride Park and they play well as a team.Wigan are better than us as well and might finish above us even with the point deduction.

  18. Not good enough for top 2 imo, unless Fornah is absolute quality for this league anyone who knows football can see that our midfield is a weak point and is only comfortable playing possession football where not much pressing and defensive play is required.  Also lacking that extra bit of quality out wide and our fullback area is midtable quality. Still a decent squad but no better than last season and we will probably be around 4th to 8th depending on injuries and form of key players.

Would have liked JCH instead of Washington and would have got rid of Hourihane personally for a more athletic and dynamic midfielder if we were really serious about making sure we go up. With Mcgoldrick and Knight going it was always going to be tough to improve the side, the defenders we have signed bar Nelson maybe are bang average to poor and Washington is very average,  Waghorn is a good signing though and hopefully recent 3 new loan signings could make a good difference as well.

  19. Who is Southgate going to select if he doesn't pick Maguire or Phillips?

Phillips is still England's 2nd best out and out holding midfield behind Rice and we don't need more creative players,  Maguire is alright for England, very good from setpieces and has experience at international level. We haven't got much of quality at centre back.

Personally would start Tomori and Dunk as first choice vs Ukraine because whoever we play in defence we should win anyway they are all Premier league quality players and of we don't try players now then when can they get a chance. Bellingham and our attack are so good we'd be alright in qualifying with a Derby defence.
