Oh my lord, I need to stop looking at this forum. Faith in humanity diminishes with each overly dramatic thread

It's a fair question as we have not been in the 3rd tier for many years in our history,  and the football so far this season has been truly disgraceful at home. Maybe abit early but continue like this and for sure it will be the worst side , if we finish bottom half in this league they will go down as a disgrace to the shirt and it will be like the 11 point season at the end.

  2. Serious question,  was thinking whilst at the game yesterday relative to the level we are playing at and the standard of football we are playing I think this team is a contender for our worst ever side.

I only started watching in 2008 as I was 9 then and that's when I got into Derby, but this is definitely the worst team since I've been watching,  heard we were bad in the 1980s but I doubt we were ever this bad.  2007 Prem side would beat this team imo and wouldn't struggle vs average League 1 teams.

What do people think who have been watching for decades? Got to be up there at the moment imo.

    This

while like everyone else im disappointed and at the crap what we witnessed last night.

weve done the managerial merry go round before and it nearly killed us

sadly weve got to sup it up put our big boy pants on and keep our fingers crossed that time allows the players to gel and execute a game plan with greater conviction than last night

I think we may as well re-appoint Paul Jewell or Nigel Pearson for another try if Warne persists with his 5ATB with players who can't run because NOBODY could do any worse.

I'm thinking the penny might have dropped now and we'll revert to 4ATB Saturday and play different,  if not he can go.

  4. I'd sack him if we lose on Saturday to Fleetwood again and make it 4 losses from 4 at home, keep him too long and we will be that behind the top sides it will be asking too much to turn it round.  Even if we lose 4 0 and Marriot gets a hatrick Clowes won't sack him until atleast September I think because he's backed him and it will be costly.

We cant afford to sack him can we

We're stuck with the mug unfortunately.  Clowes was stupid to give him a 4 year deal, he has to change the set up and abandon the 5 man defence starting Saturday.  Next few games are last chance saloon after how we have started but he'll probably still stay even if we are getting battered every week unless he comes to a gentleman's agreement like when Cocu left.

Bit negative mate! If them clubs were after you, you’d definitely choose Derby we have double the fans at home matches!

But Warne will make it know there's no guarantee of starting games , talk about high pressing and we will probably offer less as well.

Looks like Brighton will get their £100 mill for a DM/ RB and Southampton ,£50 mill for a lad that’s played 20 Prem games . If we ever get back to the Prem , we would need £300 mill up front - to hang in there.

Brentford and Brighton have done well by not spending much money but having a great recruitment team and scouting all over the world, we'd need to do that instead of signing overpriced English players who are already established,  we'd need a mix of old heads like Milner and younger foreign players with potential.

  8. Hopefully we are on an upwards trajectory now after the win but we need to follow it up with a win vs Oxford to reduce the pressure on Warne and make it an alright start to the season.  Lose and it will be 3 consecutive games this season we have lost at Pride Park and that is where most people are seeing us play so the pressure is on more at home. Draw wouldn't be terrible but depending on the performance wouldn't be great after the shocker at home to Blackpool last week, we need to be much better at the back and have more energy and creativity and purpose to our midfield play.

The Japanese have a saying - fix the problem not the blame.

Why are we intent on apportioning a scapegoat rather than focusing our efforts on solving the problem.

The problem here seems to be that we can't attract the calibre of players we want to a L1 club with a minimal transfer budget.

    How do we fix that.

Sign players who may not be nice guys and might swag walk into training listening to 50 Cent booming out the Mclaren but can score and have the right attributes e.g pace, touch and athleticism but caveat that by warning no bull will be tolerated.

Sign players with bags of pace and athleticism and maybe only average skill level and young and unproven but with the potential to be very effective like an Osula type.

Basically don't be as picky with all this bollocking about being nice guys and being able to play pressing football,  if we can afford much being picky and snobbish in some regards based off his previous interviews will not help. We don't want bad eggs but better to risk I on that type of player like a Collymoore than some sh*tter from Rotherham or some 32 year old Clogger.

I like Paul Warne and his staff, as people.

From what I can tell, they're a decent, honest and principled bunch.

I believe that's what attracted David Clowes to them in the first instance, alongside their record of success in League One.

I'll also add that they saw those principles reflected in David Clowes, hence their decision to come on board.

From the start it was referenced by all parties the entire ethos of the club needed changing, and rebuilding work was needed from top to bottom, which is not the work of a moment, or indeed a few months.

The backroom staff had been hollowed out to the bare minimum, across multiple departments.

A review of the remaining staff saw several leave, and a new round of recruitment has taken place, building the club back up to operating strength across the board, from the casual staff, offices and the football support and academy roles, a process that is still ongoing.

That's not a normal issue that an incoming manager has to grapple with, rebuilding the back room to what it should be, while ensuring his requirements are met. We've seen a level of churn across the Academy management in that time, which must have demanded Warnes attention at various stages, in addition to the normal commitments management brings.

We've an owner learning about operating a football club, having taken over in sheer desperation, leaning on the manager he's appointed I presume, there seems to be no other football experts within his team we know of.

None of this is normal for a first team football manager, especially in his first job away from a much smaller club with different expectations, so mistakes and stumbles will inevitably happen.

We got close enough last season that there were few grumbles about his position, yet after only two games, one in the league, there's a sizable minority calling for change, and a notable shift in how he's perceived.

I'm not a natural defender of Warne, but will stand up for his work so far.

I'm a self confessed football snob, and don't see him as the man to lead us back to the promised land of the Premier League, probably based around pre conceptions of his football philosophy rather than any evidence, but he's Clowes choice to launch that journey, and some of the criticism on here recently is well out of kilter with the job he's done so far.

7th place in a league with about 9 decent sides is hardly a good achievement, it's the absolute bare minimum of what is acceptable for this club. Without the performances of Mcgoldrick and Mendez Lairg mid season we would have been no better off than the likes of Fleetwood and Shrewsbury on very small budgets last season wasn't awful but he hardly deserves a slap on the back for it. This season the aim is promotion and its not the results that have been the worry It's the manner of performances, s**** football and lack of pragmatism with what we have available players wise.

I am typically positive in my views and have always looked to back that up by sharing my rationale and thinking.

I’ve read several posts this last week from people boldly claiming there’s a group of fans who won’t hear criticism of Warne, and this odd stance that does almost seem like revelling in the team’s and therefore the fan’s misery just to have an “I told you so moment” from certain quarters.
I’m all for an open dialogue that includes both praise and criticism of Warne and the team, provided it’s backed up by rationale thinking and isn’t just some binary stance of you’re either pro or anti Warne. It’s almost a microcosm of the way society is at the moment following a certain European exit, people staking their claim for one cause of the other with no room for nuance and sensible discourse.

Clearly the 3 at the back isn’t working so far this season. There is a need for pace in the side. There’s a need for more creativity. Those are sensible and logical observations several posters have made and I understand those. The bit I don’t like is the posts that seem to be more personal insults and underlying malice aimed at Warne, where his apparent intent has only been to do well for the club and aim to succeed. Yes he’s not delivering on those expectations but why does it have to become a personal thing rather than a professional one? Things like attacking Warne’s values and approach to morale building, what’s wrong with having a “why wall” theoretically presenting the players with a visual reminder of their motivations? If it’s not for you, fine, but it seems a strange thing to attack. Posts ridiculing his focus on good characters, the intent to recruit the “right personalities” into the playing staff makes absolute sense, especially as they are all (allegedly based on the last 2 games) experienced professional footballers. How he then blends and motivates that group is the challenge. Those are just a couple of points to pick out, there’s plenty more that seem more personal to the man than simple criticism of his tactics or the like.
The performances the last 2 games haven’t been good enough. The bit that always stands out for me is when I listen to what Warne is saying like in the above video, he knows that, and highlights the points.
So the questions then become what is he doing about them and how does he change it? I think it needs to be a switch to a back 4 for the weekend, either 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 to provide a more solid platform to the side.

That is all true but I think Warne is as stubborn as an old goat and he will stick with 3 CBS and we could struggle to get top 6 this season and he will be gone if that is the case.

We have signed Wing backs and have bought Nelson and Bradley I can't see either of them being happy on the bench as Cashin will start.

On this scale defined by Ellafella it means below average. I don't think anyone was really s*** yesterday, so I'll wait until I see that before giving a rating which reflects that.

Yeah I did see that but 5 and 6 are both average on a 1 to 10 scale 5 is slightly mediocre but I think it would be hard to get many scores lower than 5 all season if players make big errors and get 5.

  14. 5 is an okay rating for me, 5 means they weren't great but hardly bad. So I don't see how a player can gift the opposition a goal like Bradley did and get a 5, means they won't be many scores lower than 5 all season then. Since nobody tends to think about giving a 1 or 2 even if a player is really s*** I think it bumps up the ratings to make them abit more generous.

  15.  Wildsmith 4

     Ward 7

     Nelson 6

Bradley 3- should have scored and obviously gifted a goal.

Cashin 6- some decent defending but looked poor when trying to act as a faux winger which isn't his game.

Forsyth-7.5 Motm scored a good goal and was main outlet in attack. Got done for pace a few times though.

Smith 6.5- few decent attacking contributions first half and was okay

    Bird 5

Hourihane 4.5 -didn't do much defensively and also offered little in attack apart from set peices. Hit a howler of a shot when Collins was open.

NML-6 ineffective mostly  and don't think the position suits him, hit a good shot 1st half and played in Collins which was why he got a 6 over a 5.

Collins 4-  Should have scored 1st half ,there was no need to snatch at it he had time. Some donkey touches and a shanked shot into the south stand on his left foot, worked hard as usual but that isn't good enough when we are relying on him heavily.

Subs- Wilson 6.5 looked promising but lacked end product

Washington ,Elder and Thompson didn't have enough time to make an impact really so feels harsh rating them.

This talk of a needing a proper DM to sit, control the midfield, cover the defence, win the ball back etc is all well and good.

...until you remember that Warne's system and preferred way of playing doesn't deploy anyone to do that job and he's on record as saying that he's aware his system leaves his team open to counter attacks and that it doesn't concern him all that much.

So, what if we don't bring someone in, or rather we bring in someone who doesn't offer what it's clear we need?

Do we just carry on leaving the defence horribly exposed, pretty much assuring  a string of 'individual errors', or does Warne see the problem and change things up?

Honestly I'm not convinced it would be the latter.

If he doesn't care about his teams being vulnerable to the counter all while having little attacking creativity he has the tactical nous of Postman Pat which I think is about right at the moment,  someone selected at random from this forum could have led us to 7th place last season and Homer Simpson could get us a top 8 finish in this league. Think we will have to wait until atleast 4 or 5 league games have been played and we've signed another striker to see how things progress but I don't think he is a good tactician at all and we don't look like a team who will score more than 60 goals this season which isn't good enough for our resources and our aims.

Wigan’s No8 was a young slightly built player making his 1st team debut. Bossed the game I thought.

Looked a better player than Bird already who Rooney said could play for England and fans have talked about as a future Premier league player, at the moment and from what I saw last season Bird has good technique but is barely a standout player in League 1.

The way the midfield is set up and the whole attack in general is just awful which doesn't help, 3 steady neat and tidy midfielders with no pace or power and relying on an ageing  Forsyth ,Collins with no pace or dribbling ability and Ward/Wilson to create anything.

  18. Collins had to score at 0-0 about 8 minutes in where he tamely hit a shot towards goal 12 yards out , that's why we need to sign a decent striker if we want to do anything this season.

Obviously 2 shocking mistakes led to the loss but I was more concerned about the lack of creativity and how our game plan was just pass it around slowly until  a wingback is open and then just put into the mixer.

We have no pace upfront to stretch the channels , no guile and a midfield that have no muscle, pace or height .I would sell Bird if we can get a decent fee and then have a midfielder who can score and offer alot more ability to drive forward.  We seem meek and mild in the middle with no flair either. Mendez- Laing should be in the channels not coming deep, thought he was completely ineffective.   Also don't think it makes any sense to play with 3 centre backs against 1 striker, we gave away chances through the middle anyway and we would be much more effective with more men going forward than relying on Cloggers at the back like Bradley for creativity.  Was painful to watch us try and transition from defence at times.

Ward was a bright spark amongst a sea of effluent and I thought Wilson or pretty boy as my mates dad calls him looked like he has potential to be a good attacking outlet once he gets fully fit. Smith was solid as well but the 3 we have in there aren't effective together and lack physicality.

  19. @BaaLocks I think technology will help tackle climate change but we can't rely on some miracle invention to solve everything because I think that is very unlikely.

Over consumption in general and the environmental impacts of food production are some of the main issues. If people demand more environmentally friendly products companies will provide them as companies follow the trends and demand.

I don't think it's a binary thing where we are either doomed with climate change or we will be saved and all okay. I think the minimum impact even if everything was done perfectly now would already be bad but I don't think we will have a doomsday hell on earth scenario where most humans die and everything is horrible. We need to try and minimise the impacts as much as possible and not let temperatures increase by say more than 2.5 or 3 degrees compared to pre industrial levels (is 1.5 now). Climate Scientists have the target set as 1.5 degrees but we are already screwed on that target I think but we definitely can't let things get completely out of control with 4 or 5 degree or even higher warming.

There's alot more environmental issues than just global warming as well, general environmental destruction and abuse of the natural environment needs to be reduced as much as possible as well.

This is so on the money.

What I just don't get is why the likes of Musk, Zuckerberg and Bezos - people who can really make a difference - aren't using their wealth and business brains to lead the charge on this.

Elon Musk is to an extent with his Tesla cars obviously although that alone is hardly going to grind climate change to a halt and I know that electric cars are expensive at the moment.
