  1. Back in the day, whenever Ted McMinn was tackled he would go down holding his head - often winning the free kick! I used to find it really funny - & football has survived ?

...Not saying I agree with it... just saying.

  2. Thank you for all the kind words and support.

Others have been posting on social media and there has been an article in DerbyshireLive ending with a plea to start the clapping at the 23rd minute tomorrow...

If you could mention it to your friends or people who may not have heard about it while enjoying pre-match drinks etc. that would be fantastic!

Once again, sincere thanks... And COYR!

A nice post that… for want of a better phrase! ☺️

Some wonderful photos. And best of all, a truly inspirational  line to end on. I’d like to think that’s a direct quote from Jake himself, but regardless, an outlook on life we would all be wise to try to emulate.
It will indeed be an honour to join the mass tribute to Jake. On the surface, a total stranger to me… but deep down, a fellow Ram… so he deserves nothing less.
    I’m in. ???

    Thanks Mucker... That is true!

I think Muhammad Ali said it at a news conference but Jake took it for his own motto.

    Thank you x

  4. Hi guys

My nephew, Jake passed away on August 12th aged 23. Despite being dealt a bad hand he enjoyed life to the full possessing a sharp, dry wit and a fondness for dressing well - the other thing we had in common ? was our love for Derby County!

Many of you will recognise Jake, a life-long season ticket holder in the West Stand attending matches with his Dad.

His family are orchestrating a minutes applause at the 23rd minute during the Port Vale home match on Saturday October 8th.

Extended family will be in attendance and there will be a brief write up about Jake in the match day programme.

These tributes are becoming more common, but I think that because they are often not official and fan-led they are even more poignant - and it would be a great gesture for one of our own.

Assistance in spreading the word from members of this forum would be so very much appreciated.

Society has no use for a monarchy. We have a democratically elected government.

Remove the monarchy from the equation in the UK and you do not end up with anarchy.

    Playing devils advocate...

Having a (non political) king or queen as a constitutional head of state is a calming leveller and the sole reason the UK is one of the very few European countries that haven't had political extremes... ie Italy, Spain, Austria... Germany.

The saving we get from abolishing the monarchy does not outweigh the pleasure the pomp & ceremony gives to so many people.

  6. Sheffield United about 9-10 years ago, Harry Maguire came on as a sub! we won 1-0 and as good as relegated them... Was just next to the Derby fans. Said to my mate as we walked out ' took no satisfaction from that'   ?

Luton last season, they sang about 'having a party when we died' remember saying very loudly that I would never say that about ANY club!

  7. Great thread! (wish I thought of it). I'll come out with the classics in time but for now...

12 days on the Somme, Sidney Rogerson

Unexpected stocking filler off the wife (never heard of it). First World War Diary of an Officer (not officer class?) in the trenches during the opening days of the Battle of the Somme.

What makes it so readable is that the horrors of the trenches are side-lined - its more about day to day life. In one bit three of them are trying to get a light to cook as they hear the opening salvo starting the battle, knowing that 1000s of their countrymen are dying it's simply hey-ho! (my words!)

I'm a bit apprehensive about this one. I shall be in the main stand with two Luton fans, so no colours for this one and no cheering for the Rams ?

If we lose, my journey home will be a nightmare.

But if we WIN ....................... COYR

I'm in there (local game for me) say hello... well perhaps just wave ?
